Ok -- this is just a bit of a rant, and sorry if it offends any smokers on the board.
I really can't stand smoking. It smells, it's bad for you, it stains -- and so on.
My parents just were out on the front porch smoking (luckily i've "trained" them not to smoke in the house, as it makes me gag and cough up a storm.)
Simba was out there with them. When they came back in, Simba followed them and layed on the floor in the living room.
I went and layed down in front of him, rubbing my face into his "maine", like I always do. He didn't smell like Simba, He smelt like ciggarette smoke. UGH GROSS.
I said "Simba, you smell like smoke!"
He looked at me like "Huh, Me??"
I said "It's ok, it's not your fault" and he layed his head back down.
Ok, sorry, Just had to rant! :p

I agree KayAnn. No one smokes in my house and if they go outside to smoke they can't leave their cigarette butts outside. I'm not very nice about it. I do not go to bars anymore because I hate coming home smelling like a smokestack. So, I do empathize with you. Also....no offense to smokers on the board.

I wouldn't let Simba or Nala be around the smoke. It could be harmful to them as well, you know? I can't stand it either. It's nasty.

Ugh.. I can't even going to THE BATHROOM at school without coming out smelling like the crud because of all the girl smoking in there. They've been really cutting down on them this year though so hopefully the girls will gain common sense and wait until they get home to smoke, or not at all. I mean, imagine what they'll be like 20-30 years down the road if they can't wait a few hours for a cigarette or whatever else they may be smoking.

I agree. I have grandparents who smoke, but not around me or my pets. I just don't see why anyone would want to smoke...no offense to any smokers on here.
Last year, I had a P.E. teacher who smoke AT LEAST 2 PACKS A DAY. She was only around 30, but looked like she was 70.

What I can't stand the MOST is seeing a dog in a car with a smoker and they have the windows closed. It's so unfair to the dog 'cause they don't have a voice to speak up.

That's another thing. No smoking in the truck.
Although, on the way to Ohio I did let my dad smoke once or twice because I didn't want to stop and get Simba & Nala all riled up when they were sleeping nicely in the back.

Both my parents smoke. I can't stand it. Whenever we're in the car and one of them are smoking, I get the smoke away from Kai...not caring if I breath it in instead of him though

I agree, I HATE smoke..it totally makes me sick. Both my mom and dad use to smoke, but thankfully they've quit..howfully for good. I'm also glad the province went smoke free, ie, no smoking is allowed at any public places unless there is a smoke room :D

Mom smokes, my dad occasionally a cigar. I don't mind the cigars, but when my mom smokes, like in the car or something, I politely hide my nose in my shirt and hope she gets the point.
I used to feel horrible because my mom smoked and everyone said it was bad. I now realize, it's not just me.
You can smell it on the kids at school, but I don't notice it when I get home. I just hate that my mom does it and we've told her to stop, she doesn't. She stopped for like 3 months once, so much for that. I don't want to be around for the day when she turns 50 and finds out she has lung cancer. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I am an ex-smoker, some 22 yrs ago I gave up, because I was going to have my first child, now my first child smokes, and it is so hard for me to watch, no-one smokes in my house EVER, my husband smoked when I met him, but luckily he gave up as well, thank goodness, as I cannot STAND THE SMELL either.
My son will smoke outside or in his caravan, then come inside, and the place and he reeks of it, it is so darn offensive to me, so I know exactly what you are saying.
I lost my adopted uncle (The only one I ever had) from lung cancer, and believe me it was a very horrible experience to watch him go through, I never care to go through this again.
In NZ next year they are banning all smoking in pubs, nightclubs, restaurants etc, we have had non-smoking zones, but honestly how well do they really work?
I believe this law is already in place In NEW YORK city, so how is it working for you folks?
Many are really unhappy about it, but I for one think it is great.
One last point, everyone knows smoking ages you, causes more wrinkles around those lips, they say more people would give up for vanity reasons than health, so why are they still smoking.?

:( My grandpa died from complications caused by excessive drinking and smoking. It was horrible to go through. I'm trying to talk my mom into quitting but it doesn't seem like she's going to give in any time soon.

I have always hated smoking and the smell of it too. I'm so glad that in Califironia all public places are smoke free including the workplace. Some people at my work still smoke and they reek of smoke when they walk by.
I live in a condo and now some new people have moved in below me and the woman smokes. Sometimes when I open up my window or sliding glass door for some fresh air, all I smell is her smoke. She has a teenage or twenty something son that also lives with her and I also sometimes smell marijuana smoke too. This really makes me mad :mad:but I don't know how to report it without making them upset. I sure don't want to make an enemies especially where I live. They have no smoking signs on my building so they don't want you to smoke in the hallways or lobby of the building but they can't really do anything to keep you from smoking in your condo unit.
I really wish that the younger generation would just decide not to smoke so then some day the world would be smoke free.

I only smoke when I am drinking. But I can't stand to have it in my car. bleckky
I had a friend who even smoked in my car after I asked her NICELY not to, b/c I had let her, so one night we are driving
and she lit up and I had a bottle of car freshener spray. So when she lit up, I sprayed her with it!!! She was not happy. Said " You are going to blow me up!!!" No wonder we aren't friends any more!!!!

My parents dont smoke. But some of my friends parents do and when we are in the car going somewhere and their parents are smoking with the windows down the smoke always ends up in my face! I hate it, I always try to cover my nose. No offence to anyone who smokes on PT

I HATE when people smoke around me.
I read that, luckily, dogs have a very small chance of having damage from cigarette smoke. :)
I remember bringing my rats to my dad's house last year. They kept blowing smoke in my babies' faces!

We hate smoking to!! My father smoked for 40 YEARS!!! Now my sister and I have breathing problems. Going out to bars and such I never wanted to ware good clothes , they would REEK the next dayplum my room would smell>YUCK! Here in ny there is also a no smokin g band put in place in July 03. It is very hard on businesses but better for all! My kitties hate the smell. Before the smoke band we would come home at nite and they wouldn't sleep with us or go near our clothing, now a different story>

I hate smoke too. The people in my school just walk around with cigarettes behind their ears, begging people for more. Once this guy is like, "I'm gonna teach you how to roll up a joint" lol
I'm so happy my parents gave up smoking. They stopped when my mom was pregnant with my sister and never started it up again. I hate it when my relatives smoke especially around their animals or their own small children. A few of them have stopped though - thank God. When my grandfather wanted to give up smoking he bought this thing where you were supposed to keep your cigarettes and each time you would reach for them a recording would go off. It went "*cough cough* No smoking" lol. It worked though. :)
Once this moron on the road was causing problems. She was too busy smoking to care about her driving.

What really bothers me, is my daughters best friends mother smokes, therefore when she goes and stays there or plays there she is subjected to smoke.
I find this infuriating, as I have protected my daughter from breathing in smoke, passive smoking kills too , as we all know.
What to do in this situation,? I don't know, I cannot ban my daughter from seeing her best friend, but I just hate the thought of her young lungs being exposed to this in anyway.
Hopefully the mother does not smoke around them.
What would you do in my situation?

I HATE SMOKING/CIGARETTES!! I can't stand them. I have asthma from second hand smoke. People who smoke are so gross- yellow teeth, smelly clothes, smelly house, smelly car, bad breath- blech! I will NEVER touch one or take a puff. NEVER!
There is one kid on my bus, everyday when he gets off the bus he takes 3 cigarettes, puts them in his mouth and lights them. Ew. He's not going to make it to his 30th birthday if he keeps that up!
I think smoking should be banned in all public places, especially in restaurants .
When people around me smoke and it starts to bother me, I tell them that it bugs me and I have asthma from second hand smoke. I don't ignore it or let it go, MY health is being affected too, and I don't want bad health due to other peoples bad actions. :o

soledad, my daughter's friend come's over here most of the time, but my daughter actually loves to spend time at her house as well, I guess it is the easy answer.
I think I will approach her mother, or find out if she actually smokes around the kids, alot of parent's who smoke , donot smoke around their kids, and only outside, I know my sister and brother n law used to be like that.

I *HATE* *HATE* *HATE* smoking!!!!:mad: When people around me smoke, I get SOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick and really feel like vomiting. Thankfully, both my parents don't smoke, and never have, nor do any of my siblings/cousins/and definitely not myself! I do have two uncles though, who do smoke. They are *not* allowed to smoke in our house under any circumstances though, and this rule has been enforced since we got the birds, since it can really make a bird sick and can even be fatal if exposed to second-hand smoke too much. Whenever my uncles come, we and our cousins (his kids) constantly plot against his cigarrettes and hide them from him. He never finds them and gets furious, but at least it works in keeping him from smoking! :p It breaks my heart of what my two uncles are doing to their health. My uncle is probably like 5 years younger than my dad, but he looks at least 15 years older! When he walks, you can definitely see he has trouble breathing. He refuses to go to the doctor because he can't accept the facts of what he's doing to himself. My other uncle isn't even allowed to smoke in his own house, which is good because I can sleep peacefully when visiting them without feeling sick, but I *hate* hugging my uncles goodbye at the airport whenever they're leaving after a visit, because their clothes STINK! Ugh. LOL (never told them that though :p) Anyhow, I HATE HATE HATE smoking more than anything in the world, and if the law were in my hands, I would ban smoking period, in the country, or on the entire planet. :p
Ps. Anna66, did you succeed in completely stopping your smoking? ;)
