I have noticed old ash has lost quite a bit of fur at the end of his tail, you would think someone had shaved it somewhat, a bit like lexies looked after her accident.
Any ideas, it does not have any sores or anything on it, or bites etc that I can see, he does not like it being touched, but then Ash does not like anything being touched.
I guess its not serious, and will grow back, but it looks kinda funny , who knows what he has done to himself?
Any ideas folks?

I would get him checked out because it could be anything from mites to stress.

It could be an allergy. One of our cats lost fur around his backside when we had a flea infestation. Take kitty to the vet.

Carole,
Is it at the end of his tail or the base? I think that could be two different things.

Cataholic it is at the tip of his tail, I did not know cats could get mites, except in their ears,?
It is not due to fleas, both are treated regularly with advantage, never seem to have a problem there.
I will keep a close eye on him, I won't rush him off to the vet just yet, but yes I will take him , if I see no improvement.
Thanks for all the suggestions, and help, much appreciated.
BTW he seems in fine health, not sickly at all.

the demodecko (spelling) mite causes mange. The ear mites are different. I am sure that someone more learned than myself could tell you more about them. BTW I am not saying its mange I am just saying it might be an idea to get him checked out.

Oh I am thankful for all your ideas, I am no expert myself, but he looks really fine everywhere else, so I am just going to keep an eye on it for now, and his health in general, if it gets worse or no improvement , I will take him to the white coats.
I donot think it is serious, and is not causing him distress, infact he is not bothered by it at all, but one never knows. THANKS everyone.
