I got this from a friend... I know this is short notice, but it's sooooo sad. Also need some MI drivers. Kim can drive to K-zoo in MI. Mike and I are going to drive the Angola to Toledo leg.....Amy???????? Phred??????? PLEASE!!!

Two of these lucky boys don't know how lucky they really are. They are
two of the 122 dogs and one cat that were seized by the USDA from Class
B Dealer CC Baird in Little Rock AR. The remaining 600 dogs that CC
Baird has in his kennel the USDA were unable to confiscate due to
technicalities. These two have managed to get out and will transported
to a temporary foster home in MI along with more than 23 other hounds
this Thursday from Little Rock AR. Now we need to get them to their
permanent foster home in Howell NJ where they can grow strong and learn
how to be dogs again. All of the dogs that were seized were very
underweight and the attending vet felt it best to wait until they had
gained a bit of weight before doing anything other than procedures
needed to save their lives. They are basically healthy other than being
very underweight and HW positive. Please help us get these boys to a
place where they will never be treated as livestock again. The
remaining 16 Hounds are being dispersed to fosters/rescues throughout
the Midwest.

Moses is the 3rd Hound on this transport and is a foster that Kim has
that needs to go to Permanent foster with Lori. Kim is taking on 7
Fosters with the AR hounds and felt it best to move Youngster Moses
along where he could get more attention with Lori.

If you would like to visit #007 James Bond (page 7) and #235 (page 4),
please visit this website http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ac/. To view the AR
dogs and see their story go to the upper right hand corner of the
website.

If you can’t help drive, PLEASE help by crossposting to your friends
that may be available to help drive!!

Update!!!

It looks like the transport is already filled for Saturday, now she just needs the legs in PA on Sunday. I think Kimmy is going to take the short leg needed in Michigan and will meet me in Angola. Yeah!!!!

My daughter-in-law and I could have helped in PA but hurricane Is-a-bitch sent a tree into the windshield of her mini-van. I doubt she can get it fixed in time. I just don't trust my 84 pickup truck for a trip of this importance :( Oh I wish I could help, hopefully next time (why does there always have to be a next time  )

Molly.. LOL! I'll give Mike a big ol' hug. :D I'd drag Andy along, but their wouldn't be any room for him... though I could put him in the trunk. ;) :D

Oh Laurie... I'm so sorry to hear about your DIL's mini van. :(

You read my mind Amy! I haven't heard from the other driver, so when we do I will let you know. Do you have any suggestions? We'll be coming in on the tollroad.

I think ther eis a vistor's area on the Turnpike at I-75. There really isn't much right there otherwise. If you want to stay on the West side of Toledo, you can get off at Reynolds Road, Route 20 and there is a Bob Evans and several other places nearby. Further to he West is the Airport, although that is really "Swanton" and other the the airoert, there is much out that way.

Here's an update. We're covering Pittsburgh to Altoona. Can heartworm be passed to our dogs or is it strictly passed from mosquitos?

Beth, I do not believe that heartworms are contagious. Your dogs should be just fine.

Beth are you doing the over night?? As far as I know heartworm can't be passed from dog to dog....I called our vet to make sure and he is going to call back when he gets into the office at 1pm.

Thanks for helping out. I'll tell Pam that you found out from here. I'm very pleased that it looks like this will be a go.

No, I would have to leave the dogs outside overnight and I wouldn't be comfortable doing that.

Yeah, me too. But we would have to leave at 3:00 on Saturday to pick the dogs up in P-burgh at 5:00 and my husband works Saturday. We still have another day. Let's pray that what needs filled will get filled.

She seemed pretty confident that it would get filled. She is going to help me with the transport I need too, so I hope this gets done.

Well, if Pam doesn't mind the dogs staying outside all night, it looks like we might have three four legged visitors Saturday night. My husband gets off work early enough on Saturday that he can make the run to Pittsburgh. We'll use our two cages for two of them and tie one on the porch with use of our doghouse. Our dogs will be a little confused about their cages being gone but they will soon get over it when they realize they get to sleep with us.

From what Molly has been telling me, Beth may not want to let these pups go any further after spending all night with them! Sounds like the trip has been quite the adventure, which Molly will fill us in on, but she says the pups are super sweet :)

ramanth
09-27-2003, 07:06 PM
An adventure it was indeed! Kim Scott had a flat tire and she wasn't able to get ahold of me until 9! I had to run up to Martin, MI to get them. But that's okay. It was so worth it. :)

So it wasn't until noon that I was able to get the dogs to Molly.

I got pics of the two sweet pups. Glad they got to Beth's okay! :D

The hounds arrived safely at our house. These two are adorable!!! I will have to get pictures tomorrow morning when it's daylight. I was greeted immediately with tons of kisses. It's amazing how loving 007 was after everything he went through. After spending a little more time with him you can see that he has the saddest eyes. You don't have to know his story, you can read it in those eyes. :(

Poor Moses had a little tumble. My husband was driving down the road with Moses sleeping away in the passenger seat. My husband had to make a sudden stop and Moses fell on the blankets on the front seat floor, flat on his back. The poor gallut (sp?) couldn't get flipped back over. My huband had to help him up. And James Bond would poke his head up between the seats. Roger had his arm straight out on the steering wheel and James Bond would rest his head on my husband's arm. One trucker tooted his horn at Roger. A whole lot of people waived and smiled at him. Roger said he would keep both these guys in a heartbeat. :D

Mugsy said that her husband had tried to do something with the keyboard on their computer and now it doesn't work. She'll be on as soon as she can to tell her part of the story.

Roger wanted me to add this part.

Ain't it the truth!!! Good call Roger!

Ok, here's my story. Kimmy called us when we were on our way up to meet her and said that Kim hadn't met her and what should she do. After, what sounds to be a most interesting adventure, Kimmy finally got a hold of Kim only to find the flat tire story. So, Mike, who had to go to work at 3, had to be driven BACK home (which was about 45 minutes) and then I had to continue on my own. Kimmy and I met up at almost exactly the same time at the outlet mall (dangerous meeting spot). I picked up the dogs and headed on my way to meet the strangest woman that ever walked to earth to drop them off. They are the most precious things. Beth is right, James Bond has the saddest eyes and they tell the story of his awful life. Well, when I got to Toledo I met the people at the parking lot of a church because they couldn't figure out where it was that I wanted to meet them. OMG!! Well, they went on their merry way to drive all the way to Pittsburgh to meet Roger. I started home and got on 24 and was almost killed because a trucker wouldn't let me merge and I had 2 lanes of oncoming traffic to avoid while making sure that moron didn't take off the front end of my van. Then I had to follow him for the better part of an hour while he continually slammed on his brakes to make me stop. After that the trip was rather uneventful, but, this was the MOST stressful transport I have done, but, it was more than worth it to meet these precious babies. I'll see if I can post the article about their story. Ok, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

It was hard to get a good picture of Moses because he's a typical hyper puppy. This is the best I could do.

They are adorable--I would have driven them right to my house--I love them both. I'm so glad they are getting a forever home.

mugsy
09-29-2003, 06:29 PM
Not forever homes yet....foster homes. James Bond is actually "evidence" in the case against the evil soul that kept him and was waiting to sell him to a research facility. Awful, awful story.......we weren't even able to take one of his collars off unless we cut it off and kept it to give to foster mom to hold for evidence. I'm sure they will get lots of love at the foster home and get great homes soon.

mugsy

Pam sent emails out about the dogs making it safe and sound. I have talked to Kim and she said they are both doing very well. I am thinking about asking her to contact Lori (foster mom) and get some pictures so that we can see them again.

mugsy
11-29-2003, 09:12 PM
AAAACCCKKK!!! I don't know if you guys remember this transport in September, but Kimmy and Beth and I all drove for these 2 sweethearts. Well, their foster "mom" didn't take care of them. She didn't even bother to take them to the vet to get booster shots.

Anyway.....can any other Pet Talkers help next weekend...the weekend of the 6th? This is only a guess that it will be the same (or close to it) transport in reverse, but, I thought I would try. I will post it in a new thread when Carol (the coordinator) emails it to me or posts it on yahoo groups.

I've thought of these two dogs often and wondered how they were doing. It would be nice to see how them again. Roger said that Moses can go as far as here. :D We'll have to check the calendar and get back to you.
