I don't really know why I am sharing this, but I'm kind of bored at the moment, lol. Yesterday, I was going to drive to Smith's, and Reggie always comes at the first sound of keys, but Smokey usually doesn't care all that much. Well, this time, they both came running, and were acting excited, and barking at the door, so I decided to let them come along. The minute I opened the door, Smokey took off down the street. Sneaky little brat, I just know he was planning it, lol. His "mommy" (my mother...Smokey is attached to her the most, and Reggie is more attached to me) was gone, and apparently he was going to find her. This dog is *15* years old mind you! He was running so fast that neither I or Reggie (who is half his age) could keep up with him! He would have ran clear around the block, if it weren't for a white truck backing up that almost hit him! Then he decided to turn around and run back to the house. He hasn't ran away for several years, I don't know what got into him, but I just can't believe he can go like that when he is so old. Anyway, I'm glad I actually got him back into the house, and he did not get to go on the car ride, but Reggie surely enjoyed it. :D

Amy,
Thank god he came back and was unhurt....whew
LuLu is barely leash trained and when we know she is coming with us in the car we put the leash on her first. She can be sneaky too.
Weird how dogs know what they can get away with. ;)

Having had two dogs who were almost 15 when they went to the Rainbow Bridge, I find this incident remarkable. What great shape Smokey is in to attempt the Great Escape . I know it was a heart stopping incident, and I shouldn't make light of it, but still, considering that you got him back safely, be thankful he is still able to run with abandon .

I guess Smokey the senior citizen gave you a run for your money, as the saying goes. You young whippersnappers couldn't keep up. How about that. I'm grateful that he got home o.k., he just wanted a little freedom run and see if you two could catch up. :D :D :D

Having had older dogs I say Smoky was feeling great!!

Perfect paws I have to really keep an eye on Merlin too he will try to cross the street to go play with the lady springer (Daisy) across the street. He's not much for the car he gets to frantic.
