View Full Version : Snotty nose? (This is a bit disgusting)

I've noticed this before in Lily, when she was still with her first family: There's a dry, white-grey substance around her nostrils, and her brother Baghira had the same.

Since I brought her home, I never saw that again, and I started to believe it has been dried dust from her litter box, because she used to play in it when she was little. But now today, I noticed it again:

Do you think I'd better ask the vet about that? I never saw her sneezing or with a running nose, so it doesn't look like a cold to me...

My Mystic has the same thing except her's are brown and sort of crusty (sorry). I asked my vet if it was anything to worry about and he said she was just fine. He said that some cats have very wet noses and others are drier....Mystic just happens to be a drier nose. He said it was like a humans "booger" dried mucus that catches the dust.

Sorry, I had to be a little disgusting in order to explain it.

Nah, don't worry, my photos were even more disgusting! LOL

Besides, I think what you described could be the same Lily has. Most of the time, her nose is dry, so she could have the same "problem" like your Mystic. :) In Lily's case, it doesn't even look like a booger, it's more like... well, almost paper, like little pieces of cleenex!

Bastet gets a case of the crusties too. They look like she has been sniffing wet cardboard. I wouldn't worry aboutit too much to be honest. Unless Lilly starts sneezing.

Yes, it's probably nothing to worry about...

She isn't sneezing, so I think it's just the phenomen you described! :)

Good thing this isn't the thread our cats post in. LOL,
Kristen- Little Lilly would be so upset to see a booger pic of herself on-line. HA
Not to mention everyone else talking about their little crusties. Both my cats have boogs too.
We can all be in the "cat house" together :D The things we meowmies talk about

Lily, your nosie is so kissable, boogers and all!! Speckles doesn't get them on her nose but rather her eyes. Little crusties do build up and I have to clean them every day or two. Not worried about it though. No sneezing or anything.

Uhm, yes, I didn't think about it - she would be embarrassed if she'd know about that! :o Luckily she doesn't know...

Slick, yes, sometimes there are little tiny ones in Lily's eyes, too! :)

Kirsten, I wouldn't worry about it either. When I first adopted Sunny he had black stuff on his nostrils and also waxy ears. My vet said that this could be allergy related. It could also be a result of food allergies. Now he's fine so I think it could have been related to his previous diet.
Now my newest furkid Sky has the same thing. His ears are much better but he still gets the black stuff in his nose. I'm sure it'll go away in time.
