Oh Sue:(:( It's just heartbreaking:( You know, for almost a year I tried to be a "buddy" to one of HUA's puppymill rescues. For some reason, I had the most diffcult time trying to get a confirmation. I'll bet they're VERY busy! I remember they were having email problems too. I'd love to try again!! I have another puppymill "buddy," with another rescue group (Blackie:D) but there's alway room for one more!:) I want to take them aALL home. They are so precious and what suffering they have had to endure, some for over 10 yrs!! We are supposedly a nation of animal lovers. How can these places be allowed to exist???

I, too, would like to take each and every one of them home and show them what real "puppy love" is. Such a sad story. I think I would take Emile and carry him everywhere I went (I would have to, cause K & S would step on him and crush him)! Poor babies, I hope they find homes.
Sandra, I remember your "Blackie" did he find a home?

Poor pups...:( At least those horrible places are shut down. I hope they find wonderful, loving homes.

No Sue:( Like so many puppymill pups, due to years and years of neglect, physical and emotional, he's so frightened and unsure of humans:( BUT, his foster Mom has worked so hard at gettinghim to accept human companionship and she loves him SO and he's doing great with her!! I think he'll be with her forever, which is fine by me. He loves her too!:) That little Donna really stole my heart. Oh, they ALL did!:) Funny, as soon as you posted, I got an email from HUA about the puppymill pups!:)
Oh my if they could talk, would we be able to bear the horror stories they would tell? Each face is so sad and has his/her own horrible history. I was immediately drawn to Yvette for obvious reasons. She just got to me. :( There are no words that I can say here that are printable for what I think of the people that are so driven by greed to do what they do to these poor dogs.
The other day I stopped in at a place that sells puppy mill puppys. It was quite large and carries about 100 puppies at any given time. I am sure you have all seen places like this. I was out for a ride with my daughter and so we stopped in to see. These puppies were hopefully headed to homes and happier lives than their parents ever got to enjoy, but I did observe two of them as they were going potty and they both had diarrhea. I wish prime time TV would do more stories about the evils of puppy mills. Unfortunately you usually only hear about them on Animal Planet and then it is like preaching to the choir. :(

I too got the HUA email this morning and wept when I read the stories of these little ones. Although there are some enormous efforts taken by HUA and other organizations, our city, county, state and federal governments seem to want to avoid taking necessary action to make some signifigant changes.
I'm still ticked at the State of Illinois for completely capitualating to the *Pet Friendly* license plate issue. So take the words *Pet Friendly* off if you must but don't stopped offering these specialty plates which would provide $23 each year for each plate for animal welfare organizations. And this is something that requires little or no effort whatsoever.

Oh how I wish I could bring one of the sweet things into my home:(
All they need is love.
I hope they can all find wonderful homes.

Sandra, I'm glad that Blackie has at least a foster home to stay in forever. When I was a foster, they asked how long I would be able to stay a foster for the older dog (Gaylord) and I said for as long as it takes. I was willing, at the time, to keep him forever, but things turned out differently.
I got the posting from HUA also and it moved me so much as to post it here. Of course, it is preaching to the choir, isn't it?

You're right Sue! All of us here are singing the same song!:( These poor dears have it so hard. They are so totally unsocialized, it takes a very special family/person to be able to devote the time and patience it takes to teach them to love and trust. Those who foster them are very special people, that's for sure. The saddest thing is reading how some of these pups have known nothing but suffering and isolation for 10 or more years:( It just breaks my heart.

That website has me in tears. I don't understand how people can treat animals that way. I wish I were rich - I'd open up my own no-kill shelter and rescue dogs from kill shelters and puppy mills and they would be so happy and I would love every last one of them...
:( :( :( *wiping away tears* :( :( :(

I wish we could help. Even if we could take a dog or two, HUA won't adopt to us because we crate our dogs. We tried to get Winnie and Pooh a few years ago (Pooh is still there and is a Sanctuary Sweetheart) and they turned us down flat. They do great work though, I just wish they wouldn't discriminate if you crate your dogs for protection. I go and check their site from time to time. Some of their dogs' stories are just too sad to read.
