View Full Version : What breeds are you getting in the future?

What types of dogs are you planning to get when you are older? (If a mutt, say atleast one of the breeds you want in the dog please :) )

I'm already talking to the breeder at Cat's Cradle Catahoulas, and I'm buying a catahoula leopard dog pup from her after I move out. After that (Not RIGHT after or anything ;) ). Maybe down the road I'll get another one..If not, I'd probably get a GSD.

I'd love another sheltie. For a while (even after we got kai) the bc was my favourite breed. Now, I think I'm starting to find shetland sheepdogs more suitable for me. They're just so versatile and loving. :D Everything I look for in a dog..willingness to please, herding dog, great in agility, great in obedience, need for extra attention to the coat..pretty much everything I want. I'd still like to get my border collie but probably not until I'm really ready for all that energy and intelligence lol.

I wouldn't mind a collie either..I love their size and the similarity to shelties.

Nice thread Jordan. :)

I plan on having 2 golden retrievers, a siberian husky, and possibly a great dane.

I would love to get one of the goldens from a shelter or rescue, and one from a responsible breeder. The husky would probably come from a breeder, and the dane a rescue. :)

In the waaaay future:
I plan to own one more Akita, and than
work my way down in size.
I would like a Belgium Mal, and than a toy Poodle or Poodle mix.

I am going to adopt a (brindle) Boxer from Green Acres Boxer Rescue of Wisconsin, a (yellow) Labrador Retriever from L.E.A.R.N and a (harlequin, fawn, or brindle) Great Dane from Wisconsin Great Dane rescue. If I happen to find them in a local shelter, I will get them from there, but I would really love to get them from the rescue organization.

:D

honestly it all depends on the dog. I wouldn't mind getting another pap or two what my friends said about not being able to own just one is true. I would really like to get a Basneji, Pharroh hound or Ibizan hound though...or a Mudi.

Wow! That really is working your way down in size! :) It reminds me of the combination I saw in the vet's office yesterday. There were 2 rotties and a chihuahua. I swear the chi was about as big as one of the the rottie's heads! LOL! Isn't it great that dogs come in so many shapes, colors and sizes. There is one out there somewhere for every individual taste! :)

I love pugs although I have never had one of my own. If I ever do get another dog it will have to be a pug!! :)

LOL! That is a big gap, but I always had a soft
spot for toy poodles. :D

A chi and a Rotti, that must had been such
a cute sight.

I love the combination I have now - German Shepherd/Lab/???. I don't know what I'll do after Sam's gone. She's irreplaceable, I don't know if I could have another dog after her. I guess it would just depend on if I found one that "spoke" to me like Sam and Rags did. If there's a connection, it doesn't matter what kind it is.

I really don't know there are so many breeds out there I like.

My husband has always liked the Saint Bernard. So we may eventually end up with one. And maybe a Chow or a Miniature Pinscher.

Well, it really depends on the dog and the situation we're in at the time we get another, but Brian and I have several "favorite breeds" that we know and like to stick to if they're available! Some of those include: Labs, Danes, Dalmations, Greyhounds, and Huskies! We're not limiting ourselves to those breeds, those are just our favorites that we will probably stick close to!

cloverfdx
09-10-2003, 10:02 AM
so many breeds , so little time *sighs*

most definatly a border collie (aussie red n white), english staffy, any mutts that need a home i would probably have another Rotti X Heeler (good combination if you have the time and training skills needed for such a mix) Ohhhhhh a boxer is a must have for me *love em* maybe even a lab one day (a black male)

lol plus a greyhound and a JRT, and more Chihuahua's and a Sheltie, American staffy aswell, oh and a shar pei lol

dont worry i would never have enough time to have all breeds listed, but the 1st lot are definate future canines :D

Sudilar

GSD, always a rescue GSD (probably a bi-color the next time)...and maybe a Leonberger to go with that GSD. But in reality, it will be the one who needs me the most.

As for purebreds I really want another sheltie and I want a husky. I may even look into Dobes, Australian Cattle Dogs or Westies. I would really like them all to be rescues but however things turn out...

more border collies! and maybe a border jack or 3/4 border, my mom is getting a jack(fingers crossed) soon from a lady in calgary who has a 2 year old female for sale, just the size and leggyness my mom once, and so fare sounds perfect, she is going to call us so she can give my mom more info etc.. on her personality and what not:D with my mom luck! but I am getting another border collie, when misty starts rrunning possably from happys sister(member of club so we get only the best of the litter and have to keep them intact, because well we will have the breeders best.) or I might get a 3/4 border also from happys sister, differnt dad nitro, he is a border jack and absolutly gorgous! our club took th epup with the best health and structure(perfessionally rated, he got a perfect score for structure from all 3 people who checked them) :D I havent decided yet, depends when punch decides to go into heat(she has an irregulare heat cycle) hopfully it will be later(misty wont be running till november) :p I would rather the pur border collie!

I have vowed to myself to never buy another dog - only to adopt from shelters or rescues. In the future, when my dogs die of old age, I'd like to get a Great Dane mix and another Shepherd mix, or maybe a pit bull mix or rhodesian ridgeback mix or . . . . hehe

My husband really wants a small dog. But no matter what we get it will be a rescue, and probably a mix.

Someday I would love to have a female Collie. There's
other breeds I'm interested in too, like Pembroke Corgi,
Greyhound, Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog,
Welsh Springer Spaniel, Old English Sheepdog, but after
experiencing a Collie in my life, not sure I'd choose one
of those breeds over them. I love my lil' Cairns, but it
is nice not having to worry about aggression and having
a dog, whose world revolves around you.

But if I were to get another, perhaps a smaller yet active, zippy breed??...I love Beagles, Smooth Fox Terriers, JRTs, Pugs, Chihuahuas, Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Shiba Inus, Satos or any mix of any of them..too many to name!:D For sure it will be from a breed rescue or shelter:)

There are so many breeds I like, for sure a Chow because that is the only purebred I've had experience with and I love them, they are the best dogs. But I've always thought that bearded collies were so cute, but I'm not sure that I would be willing to deal with all the grooming.

I have had two, (Bella in my signature is one) and actually have had a total of 6 poodles of all sizes in my adult life. I am a little envious of you living with 5 toys! Wow.. an some-what old thread.

I'm leaning towards a (blue merle) Rough Collie as my third dog. I've found an excellent breeder near by. If I don't go for the Collie, my other choice I'm thinking about is a (red and white) Border Collie. After that, I'd like to get a Pit (cross?) from a shelter. well last time I replied to this thread was ages ago! lol I am getting a Toller when I am 18 and after I have moved, in all likleyhood I will have a borderjack at some point, possably of my own breeding. and border collies! gott have border collies! I really dont like that so many people want these red BCs though, that is exactly what is propting breeders to bred for colour, and they end up loosing any ability to be usefull, there are few real BCs that are red nearly every one of them are barbies who could not work worth cr*p. I know one person with a red and white, she is a trial dog person and her red dog is useless for working, Happys sire is a red merle, no intelligance, no ability. er no I do know one red and white that is not completly useless lol
