he has been shaking his head alot, and had alot of ear wax, (he never had any before)
I took him to the vet, she gave me ear drops for him, for a week, I did that, then stopped them, within 2 days he started the head shaking again(but the wax is gone) and is also sneezing now. I took him back to the vet, she told me to continue the drops and to also buy the generic for chlortrimaton(sp?) allergy pills and cut the 4 mg in half, so I bought it today. will see if that helps. he looks miserable, sneezing and shaking his head, and after he sneezes, he licks his mouth a few times...? I hope this is just allergies and not an ear infection. I don't know what he could be allergic to so suddenly.:(

That sounds very much like an ear infection to me, combined with a cold!

Why does your vet think it's allergic?

I don't know why she thinks that. I will try the meds for a few more days, if he is not better by Tuesday, I'm going to insist on something else being done.
actually his head shaking is a little better.

but he keeps getting into the fridge every time its open, he jumps in there! even before I noticed he was sick, he liked to look in there, but now he jumps in and sits on the bottom shelf, I wonder if it makes him feel better somehow? they said he did not have a fever.

I'm sorry to hear that Patches isn't feeling well. :( Hopefully the meds that your vet prescribed will help him. I know that if he isn't running a fever or showing other signs of a URI then the vet really can't do anything for him until he starts showing these symptoms.

When you mentioned that he was shaking his head, the first thing that I thought of was earmites. This causes cats to shake their heads, scratch their ears, and a dark wax forms in their ears. I'm sure that your vet would know to test him for this if he had them.

Prayers and positive thoughts are on the way for Patches. Please keep us updated on his condition.

just wanted to post, Patches is better. no more shaking his head, or sneezing. the wax never was dark, and was gone soon.
I think all the times I thought he had a hairball, it was allergies, and the same with Cassie, she does that open mouth breathing thing, and the last couple days she has done it 4 or 5 times. it's awful to see her do that. I will have to take her to the vet if she keeps doing it. those 2 cats sure have allergy problems.
