I know I said I wasn't going to post again but I'm back for a reason...
Simba, my angel has had so much trouble lately. The poor boy has been to the vet 2 times in the last few weeks. Now I we have to take him again. He has red bumps ALL on the inside of his legs, his stomach and his chest. He's been chewing and licking at them making it even more raw and red. His stomach has been growling so loud all day. He has been rubbing his butt across the floor non stop. I feel so horrible that i've been crying ever since I got home from school. I wish he could be OK for just once. He is my life. He is my best friend. I don't know how life would ever be without him. I feel so horrible. He doesn't deserve to have things wrong with him. He's the best dog in the world. I feel like it's all my fault.
He has a vet appointment in about an hour... 5:15... It seems like forever.
I'm sorry.....just needing to vent... :(

I really hope Simba is okay. He is a very important part of Pet Talk (as all pets are) and I know how much he means to you. *hugs* Don't worry about it. I will send some prayers and positive thoughts that he can be treated quickly. Keep us updated, okay?

$130 dollars later......
Dr. Mathews has no Idea what caused it. He checked for mange, and he doesn't have that.
Simba has to take 5 pills a day. 3 of one kind, and two of another kind. Dr. Mathews also gave us some more ointment for Simba's ear.
Simba is 5 years old.

Tough day, huh KayAnn???:( Good thing is there is nothing seriously wrong with Sim. I had 6 animals to care for until recently...now 5:( Anyway, it seemed there wasn't one week would go by that I wasn't at the vet's with one of them for something! It got so frustrating sometimes I'd just sit and cry! Point being, when we have these furry ones in our care, there are bound to be bumps in the road. Hang in there, give Sim and Nala a hug and breathe a sigh of relief that it wasn't something serious. They got the best Mommy in the world and the love you more than life itself!:) Love and hugs to Sim...feel better soon, sweetie!

hi kfamr...
I've struggled with allergies on Maddie for quite awhile and
about a year ago she started the butt scooting thing too. The
vet examined her and ruled out anal glands and other things
that I can't remember now. After discussing what she was
eating, which was at that time Purina One, he said he thought
it was a food allergy. According to him, butt scooting can be
a symptom for food allergies.
I switched Maddie over to Z9 dog food, that the vet
recommended and I did see improvement in her itching and
butt scooting, but not 100% relief. About 3 weeks ago I
switched her to Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato, which is
specifically for allergy prone dogs. I also got the fish and
sweet potato treats for her and have been extra diligent to
make sure that's the only food that goes in her mouth. It
supposedly takes 8 weeks for all the food to completely work
its way out of the body, so when you switch you have to
make a commitment to not feed them anything else, to really
know if the food change is working.
Well 3 weeks into this I've seen a remarkable improvement.
Her skin and coat look great and I've seen no butt scooting
at all... No scratching... The only thing she's still do is licking
and chewing on her paws, but that has decreased. I'm not
completely convinced that that hasn't formed into a habit.
Still 5 more weeks to go, so maybe that'll get even better too.
We'll see.
Anyway, you might want to try a change in Simba's food. It
won't do any harm and it just might resolve the problem.

Poor Simba. :( I really hope hes okay...keep us updated on any new info, please. He'll be in my thoughts and prayers. *hugs*
Oh geesh! Poor Baby.
I wonder if he had an allergy reaction to something.
As Sandra stated, I am also glad Simba did
not have anything seriously wrong with him.
KayAnn you are a very good mommy.
IF it is an allergy reaction, that can be very frustrating
trying to narrow it down to what it was.
Give more hugs from me to Simba for him to feel
better ASAP!

(((HUGS-SIMBA & KAYANN)))
I hope the medicine helps Simba feel better soon. I had a dog who ate strawberries out of our garden. She broke out in hives. First dog the vet ever met with a strawberry allergy. Maybe Simba's is just a one time allergy too.
Simba please take your medicine and feel better soon.

Does it sound like regular growling or is it like a gurgling sound? Does he seem distressed by it, like it's painful or uncomfortable? Does he eat ok when it's making the noise? If he won't eat when it sounds like that, don't try to entice him to eat!! He could be having a pancreatic episode and if you entice him to eat anything, it will only be more painful for him and it can kill him! Chester has pancreatitis and had an episode yesterday. He wouldn't eat and his tummy was very LOUD and the growling just went on and on. He was distressed, but I've seen him worse off, but I'd hate to have you make the mistakes I made. I tried to entice Chester to eat during past episodes cause I didn't know what was wrong with him. He'd usually end up eating cause I'd cook him something really good (salmon, beef, etc.) and I found out that's the worst thing I could do.
Talk about feeling like a bad mother! Nothing like knowing you've permanently damaged your pup's tummy, pancreas and kidneys!
Oh, and we have major allergy problems, too. Seems like one dog can't have any more problems and then he does!
Hope Simba feels better soon!

It actually sounds like a little birdy is in his tummy chirping. My dad said he thought there was a little kid in the house.
The doctor said it could be cause by stress. I don't force him to eat, when he doesn't finish his dinner or breakfast we put it up on the counter for Nala doesn't eat it. He tells us when he's hungry so we put the bowl back down for him.

Poor sim :( I know how it feels..Josie was really sick before too..she was constintly throwing up (for weeks) and the vets still don't know wht it is, but the many many pills seemed to have helped and shes fine now. I'm sure once Sim takes all his pills he'll be fine too! As for the butt rubbing thing, I'd say thats anal glands? Jo had that too..the reason she hates the vets now actually..she hated having them expressed..:(

Poor Simba. :( I was also wondering if it could possibly be a food allergy.....maybe you could just try a new food with him for a while and see if it makes a difference. Get feeling better soon Simba!

Sometimes food allergies develop over time......
But it could be a number of things. Lady still gets those bumps on her from time to time, the vet has never figured out what they are (I do think it's caused by her getting wet though).
Get well soon buddy!

You know that I'm thinking of you both.
Simba, feel better soon champ, so your mommy can feel better too. I know it's hard, Kay, maybe even more so with animals than with humans. Because when they're in pain, and distressed, there's no words we can say that will let them know that they're going to be ok. They don't know how to tell us what they're feeling, and when they're scared and alone they tend to hide it, or shut into themselves, and it's so hard to let them know that their mommy's there and that they're going to be ok.

I'm glad that it was nothing serious & I hope that the meds that the vet gave him will help. Please give him (and Nala) a big kiss from their Aunt Annahttp://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/kiss.gif

What kind of meds the vet have him on? Cincy gets red, itchy bumps often, that are pimples. Antibiotics clear them up while she is on them, but not for good. Benedryll helps considerably!

Duke's got red bumps on the inside of his legs and he's itching like crazy all over! Does Simba have dry skin, too? Duke had some type of allergy shot but it only lasted about 3 weeks and plus made him pee all the time so I'm not going to do that again.
The pills made him sick so we can't use those.

I'd to that but the pill are gel cap type things. Simba is very good aobut chewing his food. I'm afraid he'd bite into it, taste the horrid liquid and pit it all out. He is very picky.

Hey KayAnn ~
This was written for the Kat Folks...
But the Basic Principles Apply to Dawgs, too!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a good article on How to PILL da Kat ~
with minimal loss of blood...
How to PILL the Kat article (http://www.hsus2.org/international/library/eng_ht_pill_cat.html)
And we'll repeat *our* method ~
Get youselves a Pill Shooter!
They are *cheap* - less than $4.00 US;
should be availabe in any Pet Store - US and elsewhere:
cause little *stress* to either Kitty OR the Human;
almost Guarantee a successful *pilling* on the first *shot* :p
Here's a poor picture of ours - all soft plastic and made by
"Four Paws".
Pix - "Four Paws Pill Dispenser" (http://www.petdiscounters.com/dog/health/nutritional/fp_pill_dispenser.html)
Dad *loves* it; Boots tolerates it;
and there hasn't been a lost or spit-out pill in years!
Y'all really Otta Get One!!
--------------------------------------------
You'll need to be a bit more "positive" with opening Simba's mouth
than you would be with a much smaller Kat;
but by using a couple fingers on the "Shooting Hand" to help Pry Open his mouth, you CAN get the Pill Shooter into the back of his mouth and Over his tongue...
Once you're in Position - just Fire Away!
NO WAY he can spit it out IF you had the Shooter over the back of his tongue and part way down his throat.
And you have an extra advantage = Other Humans in the house to help hold him!
Another way =
TRAIN HIM to accept TREATS when you ask him to "Open Up!"
Practice with tiny, GOOD tasting treats.
He OPENS WIDE and you toss one in.
Repeat, MANY times; and get him really used to taking treats this way. But each time, tosss the treat A LITTLE FARTHER BACK on his tongue. When he'll take them on the very BACK part of his tongue (where he really can't even taste it)...
it's time to Try With a *PILL* - just Don't let him  SEE you pick up the :p *pill* rather than a treet. Your Hand Motions have to be exactly the same - whether it's a Treet or a *pill*.

OK. I DO NOT like this. While just not giving Simba his pills i realized on the Cephalexin Casules 500mg, there's a second lable under it for "Cocoa".
I don't know, but this is bothering me alot.. Am I overreacting?

This is really common. I would bet $$ that the vet tech accidentally put the wrong label on Simba's meds (maybe she accidentally typed "Cocoa" for some wierd reason) and then made the correct one for Simba. Its VERY hard to remove those labels if you mess up. Also, we've had people not purchase meds because of the cost, and if the dose is the same, we put a new label over the existing one. Usually, you are charged out (pay $$) at the reception desk. All charges (items) are checked again, so I'm sure he's on what the dr. prescribed.
If you are concerned, call the vet and make sure he wanted Simba to take that. :)
Get well soon sweet boy!!!

Yeah but they could have atleast told me. this label was out on with tape and was very easy for me to pull of. I will have my dad call in the morning. This pisses me off.
The Exp. dates and everything are different.

He's doing alot of itching and licking.
He's really tricky with his pills. He keeps them at the back of his throat. Even after holding him there for like 5 minutes. I make him drink after I give him the pills.
We just got done taking pictures. Him and Nala were playing with what's left of the sock tug of war toy.:) I'm loading them now and I will be posting them in dog general. :)
