Well, my Seahawks play the Redskins on Sunday in D.C.,so who know's what will happen. I would love it if they won....they would be 9-2!! I can hardly remember that kind of season. Usually they start strong and get my hopes up and then crash and burn and don't even make the playoffs! lol

Here's what my Seahawk email said Richard....

Seattle is also off to their finest start since making the playoffs in 1999, when the club started out 8-2.

I don't ever remember them being this good either, but, what do I know....how quickly we forget eh? lol If they lose this weekend, you're fired as a fan too! hehehehe Isn't called a fair weather fan when you jump ship when it's sinking and jump on the bandwagon of a winner??? :p :D

Richard, I gave up on the NFL for this season when the poor, pitiful Falcons lost and lost and lost. And our favorite college team, Clemson, wasn't doing much better, until Saturday night! What fun it was to be right there in the midst of those 81,000 people when Clemson decided to show up and beat Florida State, the #3 ranked team in the country! At least that is what they were ranked at the time!!!! LOL!!! :D

I'm joining this thread late because I've never been much for football. Of course, my college experience might have something to do with that--I went to Northwestern back in the days when the Wildcats royally and righteously sucked. When my friends and I bothered going to the games at all, we'd sit in the stands and chant "Our SATs are higher," and "Library, library, let's go study!"

Not long after I left, NU set what was then the NCAA record for consecutive losses. I'm told that after the record-setting loss, the students tore down a goalpost--and threw it in Lake Michigan. :D

Now, of course, I live in the heart of Bronco Country. In fact, I can see the pretentiously named Invesco Field at Mile High from my living room window.

I do watch games when the Broncos make the playoffs. And the Super Bowl wins were pretty cool. ;) All I can tell you about this season, though, is that they got off to a great start and then somebody put an injury curse on them.

On the scores at nfl.com, what does 2nd mean? Some scores are final, and some are 2nd. Why I'm asking is that the Seahawks are winning, but the game doesn't seem to be over yet. Hurry up and end while we're winning!

Freckles
11-16-2003, 05:07 PM
A NFL football game is divided into four 15 minutes quarters.
You were describing the 2nd quarter of the first half. Then there is a Halftime rest break. Now they are playing the third quarter. I usually root for Seattle but I'd like Joey Harrington of Detroit to do well. (He's from Oregon). However, after the 4th quarter of 15 minutes, I expect Seattle to be winning.
FINAL means the game is over.

Hopefully this is clear enough until Richard has a chance to clarify.

Don't give up hope. I think they still have the capacity to lose it all :) Don't get me wrong --- I am a long time Cowboys fan and am hopeful Parcells can give them the impetus that's been lacking the last few years. It's just that I'm afraid to hope too much for fear I'll jinx any good that might come along. You see them one week looking great and then next week they're pathetic. THis IS something to be grateful for. Previously they were consistently pathetic!!!! :D GO 'BOYS!!!!!!

I got this from a friend of mine. You can do it once a day. The soup will go to feed the homeless and support your team at the same time. The goal is 5 million cans and they have over 2 million now. My Seahawks are WAY down the list at 24 when I voted today.

FREE SOUP FOR THE HOMELESS

An easy way to make a difference this Holiday Season

Campbell’s is donating a can of soup to the needs for every person that goes to their web site and votes for their favorite NFL team. Go to the site and its right there, very easy to do. It will only take a few seconds of your time to fill some empty tummies with warm soup this winter.

You can visit the site once a day.

I voted for the Cowboys and all went smoothly. Pretty neat project! Boy, the Packers fans are running rampant!!!! Was it 300,000+ clicks? Vikings had a lot of support, too. We actually hear quite a bit about the Vikings and Purple Pride here in San Antonio cause this is owner Red McCombs hometown. For Viking fans everywhere that might be concerned Red would try to move the team to SA, I"ll betcha that will never happen. SA is a big town but not a lot of $$ here and Red McCombs is nothing if not a brilliant businessman. Can't see him making a sentimental but money losing decision over one that puts more change in his pocket.

How did I get off on that?

Anyway, Mahayana, I'm with you on the Titans. They're still so much the Oilers to me. Have followed them a loooong time and sure wish them well. As for the Cowboys, they're maddening but I"m continuing to be a loyal fan. That means I get to complain about them loud and long but will still be there on Sun. rooting...and cringing. :D

WOW!! Dallas Week? What does that consist of? Does everyone wear cowboy boots and big hair? I am a Cowboys fan and am well versed on the age old rivalry between Dallas and the Redskins. Love the games but I can't get too into the us vs them stuff. Except for the fact that it just MIGHT fire up the players, which would be helpful.

it goes waaaay back - maybe 30's or 40's But especially back in the Vince Lombari/Geo Allen days of the "over the hill gang" I always identified with that then on to "the fun bunch". Ain't nothing but a thang.

I'd say the Eagles are the real Cowboy nemesis. They got rid of Michael and Troy, and always try to humiliate the 'Boys.

Would be nice to get homefield, but that takes winning a few, hah!

RICHARD
12-14-2003, 12:18 PM
part of the 'skins-'boys rivalry has to do with the song 'Hail to the Redskins'

Some one who worked for the Redskins and got the song together left to go to Dallas....

He wouldn't let the 'skins use his song until there was a settlement........a lot of hard feelings about it!!

I made it to Canton...twice!! In HS our marching Band was in the Hall of Fame Game Parade. Did we get to go to the Hall of Fame? NO!

Did we get to go tto the Football game? NO!!

What a waste!!!

My senior year, they gaveup the canton parade to do the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade. I didn't even make the trip, cause they weren't going to the football game....band director must have thought people joined band to play music...I joined for a free ride to the football games :)

But I'm not not bitter...not at all :)

Someday, I hope to get back and actually get to see the Hall of Fame :)

Cincy's mom......You was ROBBED!!!!!

I am all too familiar with those silly, misguided band directors as I was a fellow band member. Each year we traveled to Corpus Christi in order to participate in something called Buccaneer Days. In case you're not familiar with Corpus, it's right on the Gulf of Mexico. Did we get to go to the beach while we were there? Only on the way out of town. (Wave bye-bye to the seagulls, kids). Were we allowed to go to the town's giant carnival that was part of the celebration? Of course not. That would've been FUN and we were only there for a contest. Bleh.

Another football related band experience had to do with summer band camp, a mandatory part of being in the marching band. It was held in the little town of Kerrville on a beautiful college campus. It turned out that the Houston Oilers held their training camp there, as well. Naturally, their section of the campus was off limits to us and vice versa, but we could get close enough to watch them when they worked out on the field. These guys are soooo huge when you see them up close and personal.

lbaker
12-20-2003, 04:37 PM
there is something nice about "up close and personal" but several years ago when I was waitressing at a "Famous Sports Bar" where all the RedSkins used to show up I stayed way late to serve the table where some of them were. Owner said "treat them well" I did. At the end of the dinner (they didn't get a check) one of the guys slipped a folded paper into my hand. I thought "GOOD TIP", well it must be at least a twenty, maybe a FIFTY! I was there allll afternoon. I went to the bathroom and opened up the paper to find a phone number from one of the team (I won't say who) with a note saying "blank name... with phone number.. CALL ME" THAT WAS MY TIP!! UGH.

iloverat
12-20-2003, 05:28 PM
Well, the CALL ME note was exactly why us youngsters were only allowed to view the Oilers from afar.

That always makes me so mad  when a table steals from a waiter or waitress. When someone has worked really hard, especially serving a large party, they surely deserve a GOOD tip. What a disappointment and a pisser that must have been for you. AARGH!!!!

Doesn't surprise me that it was one of those nasty Washington Redskins, though. :p I'm so positive that our angelic Cowboys would never do anything so creepy. ;)

Which one? The touchdown pass or the 49ers catch? They were both incredible, but the announcers were right that catch on the sidelines was amazing. I can't imagine having the concentration to have 3 BIG guys coming at me a foot from the sideline and STILL make a catch. I'm glad he caught it, but I'm also glad it wasn't a first down.

Dallas and Seattle can't play inthe Superbowl...since the league was realingned, Seattle was switched from and AFC team to NFC. Closest they could come would be NFC Title game.

I don't know who to root for...Not GB, Denver, or Dallas...too many Super Bowls, too recently. A lot of the other teams I don't like though....Titans, Ravens, Panthers. Too new. Too many moved cities. I guess maybe I'd like to see Indy and Seattle? (Ii know Indy's a transient team too)

OH, NOW you are nice to me!!!!

AFC
Tennessee Titans at Baltimore Ravens -- Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET (ABC)

Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts -- Sunday, 4 p.m. ET (CBS)

NFC
Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers -- Saturday, 8 p.m. ET (ABC)

Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers -- Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (FOX)

I like the fact that the saturday games are 'late' scheduled..

Holmgren going back to GB is probably the best 'human interest' story....

The Denver/Indy game will be a knockdown-drag out...

Cowboys over the Panthers.

Titans over the Ravens.

I still say it was an awesome game. Yes, I wish the Seahawks had won, but, it was still a good game.

I saw :( I'm glad it was a close game, though. Only wish we had coverage here ... we have tennis, soccer, car racing, home renovations (it's become a sport here ;)) and lawn bowls at any hour of the day, but the American football is nowhere to be seen.

So who's left? And, Molly, who are we going for?!!!

I'll be rooting for the Packers now. There are 2 games on Saturday (4:15 and 8:15pm EST) and 2 on Sunday (one at 1:00pm and one at 4:30pm), Nicole, if you want to follow along. I think we figured you're 16 hours ahead of us.

Football Jesus,

I beseech you to provide us with another
weekend of close scores and maybe one overtime
game. Please protect the players, the fans and the guy that sells the beer at the local liquor store.

Make the microwave popcorn hot and salty, the pretzels fresh and the nachos cheesey, the beer cold and please allow my blender to crush ice for a margarita, should I choose to make some.

Make my cable reception clear, the batteries in the remote strong and leave me without a mess to clean up on Sunday night.

Than you for giving us a great life and playoff football to watch.

Is everyone gearing up for tomorrow's games? I have a transport that I leave from Ft. Wayne at 11 and drive to Marshall, MI to drop off 5 dogs and then home.....I'm hoping to be home by 2pm or shortly there after....so I won't miss TOO much.

Who is everyone pulling for? I just want Indy to lose (although I don't think they will) and the Packers to win. Other than that I guess I don't really care...I just want good games.

Well, the one sure way to get your wish is for me to root for the other teams (which I am! lol), so you should be safe!!

As to hearing it, I guess we're taking the TV so we should be able to watch it too, even though I'm sure the picture will suck! lol Next thing you know Mike will find a small plasma tv and stick it to the dash and find a way to have remote cable access so the picture is clear!! lol

I like the readers' poll on the NFL web site:

It's fourth down with 26 yards to go. Which of these quarterbacks would you most want to make the play?
Tom Brady
Jake Delhomme
Peyton Manning
Donovan McNabb

It's what down? I know what a yard is :) Quarterback - where's the rest of his back? Making a play - oooooh, rude!

Better read those rules again ;)

lol...

Two guys from a small town go to their first ever football game...

when they return the folks from the neighborhood asked them how they liked it.....

Guy #1 says, "It was o.k......a bit confusing....."

Guy #2 says,"It seemed like an awful lot of trouble for 25 cents..."

The neighbors asked him 'WHY?'

Guy #2's answer was..."everyone kept yelling GET THE QUARTER BACK....."

------------------------------------------------------

A yard is about one meter.

a team has four chances to go 10 yards.

(that distance is measured on the side of the field with two
sticks held up with a 10 yard chain in between, those sticks are moved to when the ball stops after the team gets past the
farthest stick

If you get ten more yards you get four more chances to move.

If you run out of chances, usually you kick the ball to the other team....OR you can kick the ball between the uprights...(Like a kick for points in Aussie FB...

The Eagles were on their 4th chance and needed about 26 meters
to get four more chances.

Instead of kicking they took a chance and their QB threw the ball
to a player and he ran for those 26 yards to get four more chances.

--------------------------------

Next we will try Nuclear Fission.

 ;) :D

Time for Monday morning quarterback? Don't you love that Brett Favre commercial? (I wouldda double-bagged it)

I sure wouldn't have guessed that Carolina would be in SB38, but it is great! Always bet on underdogs so you don't have to cover the spread...

All in all, a great post-season! Now, let the Superbowl hype begin. Any predictions?

Well, I actually hope that New England wins. I like Brady. I have just never really gotten into either Carolina or Jacksonville, so have really never paid attention to them.
