Do you think maybe your parents would care if you guys put a rug under the cage?
Are they afraid of scraping the wood?

they dont like the birds because they are notesing how much the have to clean up after them now, that they have the wood flooring :(:( the feathers and dander is all over and Cheeko and Springs cage just came inside yesterday, theywere housed outside during the summer.:(:(. I already put a thick blanket under their cage but it still gets the new floors dirty ... :(:( And my mom doesnt like it :(:( I hate parents!!

I'm really sorry TM. I thought you said your mother loved Cheeko?
That does sound terrible that your parents are making you give them away. My firm belife is if you get an animal you have made a commitment to them and if you think that something will come up later so that you may have to give them away don't get the animal.
That wasn't meant to make you feel bad Tm. I know this isn't your fault.
I could ask my mom. We would have to travel to get them but it would be worth it.

That is sad. Loving a floor more then a living animal:( :(

I am very sorry. I would be very mad and sad too. I just wish that your mom would see that your pets are more important than floor to you I mean. Maybe not to her.:( I am very sorry, and I wish you the best of luck. I hope that you either get good homes for them, but I really hope that you can keep them.

To be honest it sounds a little ridiculous (because of a new floor you have to give away your pets) and I don't mean in that in a rude way, but I guess there is not much you can do. Do you have this new wood flooring everywhere in the house? Maybe you can let them loose where there isn't the new floor? I don't know enough about your birds or about letting birds out of their cage to really help. Good luck. I'm sorry. :(

Maybe you should clean up after them more. That way, you parents wouldn't notice it as much.
Is there a way you can 'blow' a bird like you're supposed ot 'blow' a huskies coat?

Tikeya's mom, not to be mean or anything, but I'm absolutely disgusted at how your parents could do such a thing, JUST FOR A DAMN FLOOR!:mad: How could you give away a pet that you'd had for like a decade just for a floor?!? What's a floor?
In our old house, we used to have the birds on carpet. In this house we have them on hard wood floor. It was WAY worse on the carpet than on floor! Just because you can't see the seeds that sink into the carpet, doesn't mean they're not there. Simple solution Vaccuum under their cage everyday. It only takes a second, and flooring is so much easier to care for than carpet. I find it absolutely ridiculous to have a pet for TEN years, and then just toss them aside just for a new floor. I don't want to be mean or anything, and I know its not YOU but your parents, but honestly, its people like this that are the cause of so many animals in the shelter. How can you just give Cheeko and Spring away like that? Cheeko is 15-20 years old as you said. He's not a young birdie, and has gone through so much in his life. Its absolutely 100% CRUEL to toss him out again, when he's already a senior and has gotten used to his home and family. :(:( You don't know how mad I am reading this post, because this is no valid reason to get rid of a pet. Its just disgusting. Poor Cheeko and Spring. :( Why are your parents only getting rid of them and not the other pets? You have plenty of animals that can cause far more harm to the flooring than a little bird. Our birds are on hardwood floor and they have never even caused a tiny scratch or spot on it. You know what ruins our floor? Our furniture, not our birds. Yes, the furniture scratches it. Can't you put something under their cage to protect the flooring, or put them on a rug or something? I cannpt believe anyone would even bring out a reason as lame as this to get rid of their pets, and decade long pet at that. Really.
Having a pet is a commitment and cleaning up after them is part of the responsibility. If you're family's not up to it, then don't have them at all. Animals are not there to take when you feel like it and toss them away when you don't want them anymore!

Giving them showers more often GREATLY decreases the dander.

And you'd think the hardwood floor would be so muhc easier to clean. All you really have to do is sweep it into the dustpan or outside.

It is, most definitely. I've had experience with keeping them on both carpet and floor, and the hardwood floor is 90% easier to keep clean. That's the only reason they live in the dining room, because there's hardwood floor there and carpet in the rest of the house. What a lame reason to get rid of a pet.
Its no wonder that Cheeko doesn't want to be tame. His humans haven't showed him anything good for him to find reason to be nice to them. (not talking about you, but through out his life, his old owners and now your family........poor...poor Cheeko. That's all I can say.) If I were in Cheeko's shoes, I would be the meanest birdie on the planet.
An animal that is sent to live outside the whole summer, and is kicked out just because of a new floor that is in fact EASIER to clean and take care of, is definitely not loved enough. :(

Jynnelle, that is horrible news. :( I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for you. I know I would die if my mother made me get rid of two of my pets and I had no power to stop it. :( Maybe if you showed your parents these posts, they would reconsider? I really am saddened by the fact that they would give away two of their living animals for a floor. :(

:( thats such sad news:(
i got this thing (like a net) that goes around the bottom of Tweety and Dexters cage, that keeps all the bird seeds and feathers from going on the floor. It was really cheap at PetsMart. It was about $10.00, and it works.
Good Luck

Great idea! We have one of these and it catches a lot of the seed hulls, but not all. It would make cleanup a lot easier though! You need to covince your parents to let you show them how well you can clean up after Spring and Cheeko!!!

Yes, good idea. Get a seed guard for their cage! Its just wrong to get rid of a pet you've had for so long just because of a floor, and its up to YOU to keep the birds' area clean so you can convince your parents otherwise.

I agree 100%
Seems like a hardwood floor would be much easier to clean....maybe if you cleaned up after them more often your parents wouldn't notice a problem?

I asked my mom again why we are giving up the birds, my mom said because they are noisy and messy :(:(. I KNOW this isnt my fault because I CANNOT do anything about it, other then clan CLEAN CLEAN , My mom doesnt seem to care :(:(.
I dont know what to do, everywhere in our hosue their is wood flooring, and we dont put them outside in the summer because they are messy we put them outside because they like it better and it is cooler for them.. Please dont think I am a bad owner because I am NOT one!! This isnt MY choice, I am trying to convince my mother to reconsider but so far she hasnt :(:(.

Oh yeah, it took her 10 years to figure out they were noisy and messy?:( I KNOW its not your fault, but HOW can your parents do such a thing? That's such a heartless thing to do, especially when you consider Cheeko's age and all that he's been through, its so heartless to send him off to find another home again, and go through that WHOLE process again. Poor thing. :( If I lived anywhere near you, I would take them in a heartbeat (not for myself but to foster them until I could find them a good loving home where they would be loved for the rest of their lives and not kicked out of their OWN home and OWN family) :(. The reason I wouldn't take them for myself is because at this point, 2 is the limit for our family, but I would more than definitely take them in and find them a very very loving and caring home. Unfortunately, I'm like thousands of miles away from you so that's not even an option.
I feel horrible saying this, but I can't believe your parents. I can't believe they would all of a sudden discover Cheeko and Spring weren't for them after a decade of having Cheeko. That's just SO mean! Aren't they attached to him? You said your mom loves Cheeko and wouldn't even let you take him when you would move out. What's happened now? Just make a big fuss and cry and say you won't ever talk to them or whatever to try to convince them. Tell them if they love their daughter, even if they don't care about the birds, but if they love you, they would never shatter your heart like that. Do all you can, protest, whatever. Throw a tantrum! :p LOL Ok, this isn't funny, but you HAVE to do all you can to try to keep those birds. I feel SO sorry for them. :(:(:(
Ps. It doesn't matter if the birds are happy outside; I just think its irresponsible to put an animal as defenseless as a bird outside. They aren't outdoor pets at all to start with, and there are diseases outside, plus other animals and birds etc. I would never in my life put my birds outside especially in the night! How could they even feel like family members like that, and how could you expect them to be tame if they're outside all summer. I don't think its right to have any pet outside, but ESPECIALLY birds, because they are so small and defenseless and get scared easily. Sometimes I put my birds in the yard a fter they take a shower to dry faster (in their cage of course), but I'm with them the whole time and even paranoid to leave them for a second.
Once again, I cannot believe your parents would do such a thing, and you HAVE TO do all you can to try and keep them. If your parents let you get a gerbil and a rat, I don't understand why they would do this to your birds. It just doesn't make sense. Also, what ever became of Sage? You never talk about her? Do you still have her? Don't your parents want to get rid of them, or the dogs or other pets? WHY Cheeko and Spring? WHY? How mean.

It doesn't make sense that if your parents think the birds are noisy and messy, they only discover this NOW. And they allowed you to get another bird?
No wonder they aren't tame.....living outside....poor birds.
If your parents are going to do things like this, you shouldn't be getting more pets until you have your own house. This is obviously not the first time they've threatened you to get rid of pets. It's just too bad you never listened to any of us.

Sage is fine she is in her tank right now :). she is doing great, she gets yogurt drops everyday :p. My parents only want to get rid of the birds because they make a big mess everyday, and she doesnt want to see it and she doesnt want to hear them anymore :(. I told her that I would clean up after them, but my mom said she doesnt care because they make a mess over night :(. I know they are soo mean, I am sooo mad , I am begging her to reconsider like I said and she said that she wont just give them away to anyone, she said "Jynnelle, you can find a home for them in an bird place". meaning she said I was alloud to travell to take them to an avairy :(. It still makes no difference, I will miss them our house will be so quite :(. I cant believe it :(. I know you can believe it either popcornbird, BUT you have to, because it is happening. :(. There is nothing I can do about it, my moms own words
and wolf_q what does this have to do with me listening to you?? That makes no sence, my parents like the rodents because they dont make any mess and they make no noise .. the birds do, and it is so dumb that they are acting this way.. I hate them right now.

The only reason my dad hasn't released my birds into the wild (he hates them) is because he knows I love them. My birds are messy (I need to vacuum the floor and wash the walls every so often) and are huge sqwackers too. Don't your parents care that you love your pets so much?

So it took them TEN years to find out they didn't want them? TEN years?!?!?! I told my mom about this, and she was like . She can't believe how anyone could get rid of their birds that they've had for 10 years and keep their rodents and dogs. That's SO mean. Besides, noise-wise, I honestly find the barking of a dog FAR more annoying than the beautiful soft songs of a tiel and keet. I know that birds such as conures have high pitched LOUD voices that can get annoying, but cockatiels and parakeets do not have that kind of voice. :( I would never get rid of any pet because of their noise. As for the mess.......overnight? *laughs* They SLEEP in the night, not eat. Besides, birds don't even make much of a mess other than throwing a few seeds here and there, which takes half a minute to clean, and my birds have the full run of the house. I can't imagine how your birds could even be making a mess when they're caged. You probably don't have a well built cage with a cage guard and covered food bowls, and that only takes $30-$50 to fix. Poor Cheeko. Poor Spring. I feel sooooooo sorry for them. How can people be so heartless, and so mean?

Sorry, but I'm a little confused -- didn't the birds used to live in your bedroom? Why can't they be put back in there again?
