...between a cat just gaining weight (fat depots) or retaining water?

I'm a bit worried about Luna because she has gained at least one kilogramm since Lily has arrived. First I thought it's because Luna is eating more with the baby around (which she actually does), but she's really one big cat now! And she didn't play with Lily the last two days, but cuddled her a lot instead.

I have to take Lily to the vet tomorrow for her second row of shots, and I think I will take Luna with us to be sure there's nothing wrong with her. Had her heart checked three months ago and it was okay, but I have lost my Katz from a heart disease and she has also retained water...

I don't have any advice to give you except that you should ask your vet about it. Please let us know what he/she says about it. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

It's most likely just the extra food that's there because of the baby in the house.... but better safe than sorry!!! Please do let us know what you find out!

Try not to worry, I really think it's OK!

Yes, it IS the extra food - and especially the kitten food she steals from Lily!

I took her to the vet today and she said it's no water retained, it's all fat! She weighs 5,3 kg btw which is 11,7 pounds. :o (she hopes Jack won't read this!)

I've got a diet food for her now and it will be a bit complicated to feed them apart from each other. But it's definitely better than having a sick kitty!

On Luna, you don't have to worry, your mommy will make sure you get plenty of food so you don't have to gobble it down before little Lily gets it! I'm surprised she put the weight on that quickly! But I'm glad you brought her along to the vet and got some answers rather than wondering and worrying about her. :)
