If you have a pure breed dog, I would
ask them for a list of what they will not cover
for that particular breed. Some insurance's have
a cap on what they will pay for each problem:
example: growth removal costs you $300.
Some insurance companies might only pay $125 towards
growth removal. I like the insurance companies, that
have a certain yearly $$$ amount, and a one time deductible a year no matter how many times you have a claim, they will pay 80% until your $$$ amount maxes out.

Good luck, and don't foreget to read the fine print, and
I know in the US their is a government agency we
can call to make sure the Insurance company is
ligit and has a good rating.

I have looked into it, and they have a list of breeds that make insurance for those breeds more. I can't remember all of the breeds on that list, but I do know that GSD were more $$.

You can get insurance just to cover shots, and other yearly things, then you can pay more for accident coverage etc....

Sure sounds like a good idea!! But with two GSDs, it is just to much money for me right now.

When Kito first came home, I looked into insurance, and decided against it.

What I do now is save all of my change, and roll it every once in a while. It's my emergency fund, for the dogs, and I'm over $450 right now.

You're much better off putting the money you would spend on premiums in a savings account. We have a huge chunk of change after just 5 years. We could afford most any type of surgical procedure at this point. Thank goodness we've never needed it except when we had Chester's allergy testing done. :)

I was thinking about getting insurance, but then I read a comsumer reports (I read it all the time) issue about pet insurance that showed that you are better off just saving money.

When it comes to my Drake, I will leave nothing to chance! He has pet insurance with www.petinsurance.com (http://www.petinsurance.com) . The premium is about $16 a month. We also have a Draker emergency fund. Andrew and I both put money in there every month. And if that all isn't enough.

Our pet insurance covers 50% of Drake's annual check ups and 80% of emergency visits.

I have a bank account that's for all emergencies (especially for the pets). I'm considering also getting pet insurance through Veterinary Pet Insurance (www.petinsurance.com), but I just have to see what my financial situation will be like once I go back to school :(
