In a cat’s eye
Polly met Chester in the vestibule at the vet’s office.
Chester’s mom told Polly’s mom that Chester was missing
a leg because he’d have an accident. Polly studied Chester closely.
She couldn’t see anything missing. He was friendly and loving.
He was even cute, with his ears cast aside at a rakish angle.
He was 100% cat.
Polly realized that humans look on the outside to judge another.
Cats look at one another and see only the inside.
If Chester were unloved or bitter, well, Polly would have seen that.
To her eyes, Chester had all four legs,
as strong and fast as a cheetah’s.
Chester looked at Polly, shrugged his shoulders, and winked.
