Yesterday I noticed a good-sized (approx. half inch round) scab on the shoulder blade of my 1-year-old tortie, Noodle. This has happened one other time as well. I wonder what would have caused this.. ? Our cats are indoors.. however I recently gave them home flea treatments on the backs of their necks.. so it could be an allergic reaction. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, and what should I do? She doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all.

Thanks!
Sarah

Once I have given Nellie her flea medication (Frontline) it dried to quickly and left a white marking on Nellies neck (fur and skin)...does Noodles have the scab on the skin or fur?!

Maybe when it only occurs after given flea treatment you should switch to another product.
But I would ask the vet, just to be sure it's not a serious skin irritation...

Hope this has helped you at least a tiny bit...
Noodles is a real cutie pie!!!:) :) :) (Thanks for the picture)

The scab is on the skin. Thanks for the reply though, I will keep an eye on her and consider changing flea treatments!

My guess would be something called a "hot spot" and it is quite common with cats. My vet usually gives my cat a shot and cream to apply. Miley has had a couple and eventually they go away.

I would take the kitty to a vet, for sure, and get a proper opinion.

Good luck and keep us posted.

P. S. I think it could be the flea treatment.... but unless it is in the spot where you applied it, I would think not..... Just a guess now, don't take my word as the answer! Off to the vet with you!

I have no suggestions on the spot on Noodle, but I just wanted to say welcome to PT! I remember Noodle as Cat of the Day because you mention she has a sister named Peanut, and I also have a Peanut (the tortie in my avatar). Could we please see some pics of Peanut?

Noodle is adorable, and I hope you find out what the spots are. :)

This picture doesn't quite capture Peanut's light blue eyes, but she's a cutie :) She's part Siamese and very soft. Everyone loves Peanut because she is very affectionate and will make friends with everyone who walks through the door!

Sarah you mentioned that this had happened once before. What did you do the first time Noodles's had this and did you know what caused it?

Also welcome to Pet Talk. Your Noodles and Peanut are very beautiful cats. Hope to see more of them.

The truth is, it cold just be a scab from a scratch. That happens to Monte several times. Scratched by himself or by another. The most important things are: Is it inflammed? is it oozing? is it painful to the cat when you touch it? Does it look scaly, like it is dry as well as scabbed? Answeres to these questions will help to narrow down the cause of the scab.
P.S. Your cats are adorable! looking forward to seeing more of them.

Unfortunately I don't remember what caused the scab the first time.. it's been at least a year ago. It's not inflamed at all.. Noodle's not bothered by it. She doesn't even mind if I touch it or brush the loose pieces off. It appears to be healed underneath as well. I am going to investigate the "hot spot" idea though.. it's something I've never heard of.. thanks for all your help! You all have cute kitties as well :)
