You have to be very careful with collars because as you can see, they sometimes get caught in their mouths. Someone here had one of their kitties die because it was caught in its collar and she was at work and didn't get home in time. :(
An option to the collar is to get a micro-chip put in Maggie. A vet would do it, and all your information is on the chip. If she should happen to get out, the people who find her would have her scanned, they would see your information and get her back home to you. :)

Emily was very much like Maggie. When Itried to put a collar on her, she scratched herself until she bleed. I finally ended up having her micro-chipped. This does not hurt them at all and I feel better knowing that I have some way of identifying her if she ever gets out.

Okay, that sounds good. How much does this chipping cost?

It depends on where you have it done. I had Emily done at a promotion by one of the local Humane Shelters and it was about $30 (including registration fees). I had Tanner done at my local vet and it was $38 (not including the registration fee). So I would ask around and maybe phone your local SPCA to see if they provide it at a low cost.

Yup - Local SPCA's do micro-chipping at a reduced cost. Both of mine were $40 each plus a $12.50 (one time) lifetime registration fee. No collars on my kitties - they like being nekkid! :D

Lovable has such thick fur that he can get out of a collar very easily. I do take him out, but watch him very closely. However, I just got a notice from my landlord which said, among other things, that all animals must be on leashes. Too bad, he does enjoy an occasional climb up the trees in the courtyard.
