Sheba was fine this weekend, but on Monday,
I came home to diarrhea on my carpets.
(at first I blamed it on Rocky , because Sheba
is soooo clean.) I later learned it was Sheba,
who was not feeling so well)
I held back food on Monday and
gave her some rice with ground turkey on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, came home again to diarrhea on the
carpets. Sheba kept me up during the wee hours
of the morning to let her oustside to do
her business. I ended up keeping her outside
the rest of the morning. I called my vet,
and made an appointment to bring her in.
I kept the dogs outside, but because of the
heat and I had asked my Aunt to let the dogs in at 12:30.
Sheba was only in the house for 2 hours before
I got home. I found diarrhea on the carpet and also on a wall. (don't ask)
Cleaned up the mess.
(carpets need to be professionaly cleaned at this point)
Just came back from the vets.
She is on antibiotics and tummy pills.
If she is not better by Thursday night, I need
to call the vet back on Friday morning to bring
her back in.
Poor thing, she is so sad, especially when
I have to clean her rear end. :(

Ahhh, that is so sad...she must feel helpless. I know when my human son had a stomach bug...it was terrible b/c he was too young to tell me that he didnt feel good...and it is the same way with doggies and kitties...wish they could tell us what hurts, ya know?? Hope Sheba feels better real soon. Keep us updated!

AAWW! Poor Sheba. I remember the story from the other thread. Here's hoping that her tummy starts to feel better and the pills do the trick. Hope you find some good carpet cleaning people too. It sounds like you have a big job on your hands. (((hugs)))

Poor Sheba:( :(

Riley was sick the exact same way Monday and Tuesday, and Kito was throwing up all day Sunday--I spent most of that day on the floor scrubbing carpets (they never do it in the kitchen). With Riley, luckily he only did it outside, but I had the butt wiping duties too--he was so wiggly, it was nearly impossible:eek:

They are both back to normal today.

I certainly hope Sheba feels better soon, having a tummy ache is no fun!! It's so awful too, because she can't tell you!
I'll say an extra prayer tonight for Sheba.

Oh, Sweetie Sheba:(:( I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Karen, my RB Labbie Jingles went through a similar ordeal one summer. After about 36 hrs. of vomiting and diarrhea, the vet took abdominal xrays. They found "multiple foreign objects!" One of the objects (in addition to sand and small sticks) was a small bird's skull!:( They kept her to monitor her, see if she passed them. Thankfully she did and they didn't have to do surgery to remove them. I hope the medic. works and that sweet Sheba starts to feel better very soon! Paws and fingers crossed for Sheba! Please keep us updated, Karen. And hugs to you Sheba from Sandra, Cody and Star:)

Oh Karen, I'm sorry to hear that Sheba isn't feeling well:( I do hope that she starts feeling better very soon. I know all this diarrhea can't be good for her (or that matter for you and all the cleaning you've been having to do).
I'll keep you both in my prayers.
Please keep us updated on how she's feeling.

Poor baby, hang in there I know as a mom you feel so helpless when there's nothing you can do for them. Your pup is gorgeous. I actually work with a lady who breeds and shows akita's. I'm assuming from the picture that's what Sheba is. Take care and I'm sure it's maybe something as simple as she got into something and the mixture of the heat that maybe has caused a little bacteria bug in her tummy. good luck!

Thank you everybody for your good thoughts.
It means a lot to me.
No earth shattering news about Sheba.
She did sleep the whole night which was good
for her and me.
With out getting grapic, she has lost a little
control in her rear end area. (so both dogs
were outside when I went to work today)
She does seem more perky, and did eat most
of her dinner.
Since I have been home she has not gone number two.
I hope she does something before tomarrow, so
I know if I need to take her back to the vets or not.

Sandra, thanks for sharing your
Labbie Jingles story and mentioning the birds skull.
I can not get that picture out of my head now! :)

Thinking of Sheba and hoping that she is finally start to recover from whatever it was that had her tummy so upset. I gave the dogs pig ears yesterday and I noticed that Ripley made a couple of "poopie" stops in the yard instead of just his usual one stop. Maybe she just ate something that temporarily upset that delicate tum tum. :)

It sounds as though Sheba may be on the mend. Riley had it for 2 days, and then went completely back to normal (well, normal for him:p )

Keeping Sheba girl in my prayers!!

Oh, Karen, have you thought about hardwood floors;) ?

Update:

This morning, I took Sheba's temp, and it
was almost normal.
I could tell Sheba was feeling better.
She ate most of her breakfast, and
tried to get Rocky to play with her.
(she even gave him some kisses)
But she still did not pass any stool. :(
I spoke to the vet via phone, and
he told me to give the pills a chance.
That it would take time for her to build
up some stool again.
Sandra, when you posted, it made me think
maybe she had intestinal obstruction.
Before we went to the vet on Wednesday,
I noticed in the carpet their were 2 hair balls she
had passed.
I wonder if thay might be the problem?
She is constantly licking/cleaning herself.

Tonight, Sheba ate all of her dinner and finally
an hour later she pooped. :)
(notice fur it in it again)
The medicine must be working.
It still is a very loose stool but at least has a little form to it.
(not like a watery milkshake)
She is on 10 days of antibiotics and 20 days of
stool hardner.

Pam, I give all the dogs slivered pig ears last weekend.
I thought about that too.
I wish I new what caused this. :(
She is not a spring chicken anymore, and I
worry about her.

Thanks again "everybody".

I'm glad that you got her to the vet and that's she's on meds. :)

I don't think that hairballs would very much ahve anything to do with it---but I can't be sure. Isn't it characteristic of akitas to be very clean?

I hope that it was just the pigs ears, so then it would probably only be a temporary thing. But would the affects of them last that long? Since you gave them last weekend, wouldn't symptoms have shown up earlier?
