I cant deside what kind of dog I want when I move out. I want to goto a reponsible breeder, in Vancouver they have tonz. I just cant choose lol. I wont be getting this puppy intull I am MOVED OUT, and finished my vet tech schooling. My mom want to keep Cheeko and Spring because she loves them soo much, so I wont have them in my home. After so many years, I highly dought my hammies, and gerbils will still be around :( .
Here are the breeds I was thinking about...
Another Siberian husky ???

Ummmm...from that poll? Austrailian Shepherd. I had one named Bandit and I thik there great dogs. When I grow up I would like to have 2 goldens, a german shepherd and possibly a pit bull. LOL, but the list is always changing!

I voted aussie..i love them.I'm not sure how exactly they'd be for you...but I think they'd suit alot of people. Not as "hyper" as a bc..but still very intelligent. And I don't know if you're getting any small animals when you're older..so a sib might be a bad choice...w/the prey drive like tikeya..but i'm not sure if they all have a strong drive..so...i could be wrong lol

I love ALL these breeds, it's very hard to choose. I'd have to say that the siberian husky is my favourite, but if I had to choose one of these, I suppose I'd choose a bull terrier. They make good guard dogs, and have clownish personalities.
Since you said that you aren't getting any more small animals, another sibe wouldn't be any trouble at all. You are used to the breed, and know how to go about them. But Tikeya might not be able to handle another one of her lol.
Aussies ae very smart and nice. They'd make a great choice too.
And I don't know much about shar peis, but you gotta LOVE the wrinkles!! :D

I suggest just going to the pound and saving a life. Thats what I plan on doing in the future, as I have in the past. :)

I agree with KayAnn. Go to the pound and see what they have. All my future dogs will be rescues.
If you really want an exact breed, it's really too hard to decide now. Who knows what your lifestyle will be like then?

I think I'm definately getting an Australian Shepherd. They have become my favourite breed! I love the Blue Merle:D During the past week, I have been thinking a lot about when I move out too. I want an Aussie, but if I live in an apartment, I would probably get a little dog.
Then all my cats would be from a shelter:)

hmmm maybe you could do both? Rescue and get one of those breeds? I see all those breeds in rescues all over vancouver except the bull terrier. I'm not so sure that they're common here. At least, not in the spca.

I agree with kayann and prima. :) save a life! :D
but if you want a pure breed, all depends on your life style. if you live in a smaller apartment, you probibly wont want a big or even small, active dog. also not a dog with a high prey drive *if* you will have small animals. Shar pei's (sp?) ... I beleive can have a lot of medical problems, so make sure you have the money.
Well I guess it would take a while to decide for sure though. :) :D
I also agree with Kfamr and primabella
But I have to say I like Aussie's the best. But all of the breeds you have picked are nice.

they only have medical probs if the breeder is a bad one with a bad blood line.

I believe Shar Peis are common with skin diseases and such. I'm not sure how accurate that is but i've heard it alot.

I didn't vote for one reason. The type of dog you get in the future should be your decision not left up to other people. Besides you don't want to limit yourself to just these breeds. By the time you move out you there might be a different breed that you want.
But I highly suggest either a breed rescue or the pound when you do decide. You'd save a life and get the dog that you want to boot.

We were going to buy a shar-pei instead of a sheltie at one point...I read somewhere that you have to give the wrinkles extra attention and clean between..can you imagine cleaning each little wrinkle? lol

I voted for the siberian husky.
I agree with Crikit, but I voted anyway.
I voted for Shar Pei, although I'd opt for a Shar Pei mix. I was fortunate enough to be blessed with having a wonderful relationship with a Shar Pei mix who completely stole my heart. I tear up just thinking about the wonderful boy.

Just to let everyone know, I don't believe that there is a kill shelter in B.C. I know that our Spca only puts down animals with expensive medical problems and such. But my mom said that she saw on the news that they aren't killing animals generally anymore

This is indeed a step in the right direction!
I think it is happening here in NZ as well, I often see animals advertised in the free paper at the S.P.C.A that have been there for a few months, usually they would have been put to sleep long before that, so lets hope this is becoming a worldwide change. YEAH!!!!!!!!!:)

HI,
I relly cant decide between Siberian Husky or the Australian Shepherd. Because if you would be the type of owner who has a large fielk or backyard or mabey live on a farm. Also would be there every single solitary day to train and groom and excercise your dog, well then the dog that I would go with is Australian Shepherd because they need alot of space and excercise!
This also applays to Huskies its just that they dont need as much excercise as Australian Shepherds!
Hope I could be of some help, if you have any more questions PM me.:)

Whenever someone asks me what kind of a dog they should get, I always respond by asking a series of pertinent questions to determine which kind of breed would best suit their lifestyle. Such as, how big/small is your apartment/house; do you have a fenced in yard; do you work regular/irregular hours; how many hours per week can you devote to walking/exercising a dog; do you want a dog primarily as a companion, or also as a guard or watch dog; how much time are you willing/able to spend grooming your dog; do you have small children in the home; do you have other pets, such as cats; does anyone in your household have allergies; what kind of activities do you want to be able to share with your dog, e.g. jogging? biking? shopping? etc etc.
