View Full Version : Please Help Our Darling Trooper

This is a plea for help. My name is Chrissay Sloan I run an animal rescue in Southern California (some of you might remember dear Orin a few months back who came to us and found a wonderful home!) Recently one of my volunteers co-workers found a puppy, a four month old male Black Labrador mix. The puppy was injured with burns. My volunteer called me and I said sure bring the puppy over. I was not prepared for what I saw, I figured maybe little cigarette burns, WRONG, this dog was burned from his neck to the base of his tail. His skin was hanging of his body and BUBBLING. It was some type of chemical burn (possibly battery acid). This poor little dog was in so MUCH PAIN. They brought him over in a box, and he would start screaming everytime he moved. How could someone do this to this poor dog??? People are so cruel. As well as the burns his teeth were CUT OUT OF HIS MOUTH... I was in shock when I saw him. We rushed him to the vet immediately where he under went surgery to remove the dead skin and had an IV full of pain killers and fluids, and had a blood pannel to hope the infection didn't reach his blood. His skin is very infected and his entire back is raw. He's in a lot of pain. He's currently at our vet and will stay there for AT LEAST two weeks. The bill for the first day was $389 every day thereafter the bill will be between $120 and $175 PER DAY. His bills will reach over $2000. This is a plea to ask if anyone knows of any organizations that can help us and ou little boy now named TROOPER our rescue does not have the funds to pay this type of bill and we are NOT going to give up on this guy. A photo is attached. If you look close in the shadows to the right you can see where his skin is hanging off his poor little body. I will have more photos GRAPHIC tomorrow am that I will post as well. This poor little boy, this happened on Tuesday July 1st, I go in and visit him everyday and everyday when I walk in I can hear him whimpering in the back. I go and see him and stick my hand in his kennel and he stops crying as soon as I hold him or let him lay his head on my hand. This guy has a will to live and we're not going to give up on him... THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Chrissay Sloan

I'm not going to even look at the picture, Chrissay, and take your word for it. Have you checked with www.imom.org ? I have no idea of their criteria, but you could set up a fund for his care, there, I'm sure, if not get some funds from them. Please check, and know that this precious boy will be in our prayers. I would also be "shameless" and contact local news media. It will be amazing the people who will come out to support you on this, and probably want to adopt him as well. A good friend of mine, who works in rescue, was telling me a horrible story the other day of a pit mix that had been in their shelter for over three years. She has wonderful temperment, but no one wanted to adopt her. Someone came over two sets of fences one night last week and went straight to her cage and literally carved out her side in an "X", over 7 inches, each way. I saw her picture yesterday, which is why I don't have the ability to look at your boy today. The local news media got the story, and they have had over a dozen applications to adopt her, plus enough financial donations to pay all of her vet bills. I hate that it took an incident like this to draw attention to a good dog in the shelter, but it if works, then use it for all it is worth! Coming here is always a good thing to do too!!
Prayers and good thoughts headed your way. You are an angel, as you already proved with Orin.
Logan
Thanks for the correction in the link, Sandra. I should remember to always test those things before I leave a post!!!! I've corrected mine now, too. :o

Oh Chrissay, of course we remember you and we continue to be in deep, deep gratitude for your tireless efforts on finding Orin a home!:) I was just thinking of him the other day! I did look at the picture and thankfully, all I could see was the MOST beautiful, sweet, loving face. Again, thank you so much for coming to the aid of yet another dog in great need. You are truly an angel of mercy. I could hardly bear to read of the horrors he was subjected to. That type of crueltyl is totally behond my comprehension. I too, was going to tell you about IMOM, but I see Logan already has. Only, I believe the "address" is www.IMOM.org As well, please contact www.labmed.org They are another group that comes to the assistance of rescued Labs/Lab mixes in need of medical care. I also think Logan's idea of alerting the media is an excellent one. I'm sure there would be many willing to help financially and as well, offers to adopt. Do you have any idea who the owner was?? I would love to see this monster prosecuted to the full event of the law. This was an unconscienable act. Thank you Chrissay for being a guardian angel to these precious souls. Please keep us updated. You and brave, beautiful Trooper will be in my thoughts and prayers. And next time you visit him, please give him a gentle touch from me. Sandra

Thank you so much for your responses. I'm going to contact both organizations right now. I've been trying to contact the local papers, hopefully they'll be able to do a story... Hopefully we can catch the people who did this to him. Most likely we won't be at least he is safe now. Poor guy. No owner known...
Thank you. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRAYERS. It means everything. This guy really needs it right now... I will keep you updated.

What a heartbreaking story. I didn't even view the picture, it makes me too sad.
I will be praying for Trooper, and hoping everything goes well.
In the meantime, do you have an address where we can send any donations --to your shelter, or the vet or otherwise?? I would be happy to help with dear little Trooper's care.

Chrissay, thank you for posting them as attachments, as they are a little hard to see. What a sweet boy, I am so glad someone found him.
Do, I repeat DO contact the media - local and metro. Not only may it help you get contributions for his care, but just maybe someone will know his "story" and turn someone in. Also, it's "silly season" in the newspaper biz - so you're likely to get a bigger story than you might in our busier newstimes. Note: a picture of you with him is more likely to get "play" than a picture of just him - it's a human interest story not only because of him, but because of the kind humans helping him. Also, showing that he can trust a person even after all that has happened to him is important.
Oh, Trooper - how glad we are that you're safe! I knew a verrrry handsome German Shepherd named Trooper once, and while you don't look like him, I bet you're gonna be a beauty, too, once you're all better.

I too could not bring myself to look at the pictures. The description of what this poor dog endured was even more than I can handle. I can't fathom how far removed from their own humanity some people have become to do such an act.
I am saying lots of prayers for poor Trooper and a donation will be sent out soon to your organization. God bless you Chrissay.

Thanks for the update! I wish we could afford to send a donation, but, alas, we can't, so I guess the best I can do is to continue to send pleas out. Good luck. Hang in there Trooper, you seem to be very aptly named.

**SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN THE UPDATE. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO POST ALL DAY TODAY, MY COMPUTER HAS NOT BEEN VERY COOPERATIVE AT ALL!!***
Here are some updated photos without the bandages. I warn you they are VERY graphic. So be prepared, they are very graphic, but show GREAT improvement on this little miracle puppy!
Thank you so much for all your prayers, thoughts, and donations. They are SO VERY much appreciated!!!!!
I went and saw Trooper Saturday morning as he was on the table having his burns cleaned and the dead skin cut away, this poor little boy, he was SO HAPPY to see me, he was half awake.. half under anesthesia, and as I held his head in my hands, he was wagging his tail so hard, he could barely move but was wagging his tail as hard as he could. He was SO HAPPY. He's being cut at and cleaned (which is not fun!!) and he doesn't care at all... He's just so happy to have someone holding him and talking to him!
This boy is doing SO MUCH better. The first day he looked awful under the bandages. They have almost all the dead skin cut away, and he's showing MAJOR improvement. He's going to make it, our main concern is keeping his pain under control, which the vets and the animal hospital are doing a WONDERFUL job with. He's just such a people dog! Thank you so much for caring about this wonderful little boy. He's a WONDERFUL dog, and so deserving.

What a happy update, Chrissay! The picture was difficult to look at, but at the same time, very encouraging. The most amazing part of all is that this tortured, abused boy still has the spirit and heart to not only receive but GIVE love! I got teary as I read how he responded to your affection and touch. It will be one VERY lucky family that adopts the amazing Trooper! I was wondering as well about the media. Gosh, when stories like this hit the news, donations and offers to adopt pour in! Please keep us updated! And many thanks to the dedicated vet. staff that helped to make his recovery possible! You're an angel, Chrissay! Love and hugs to you beautiful, brave, Trooper!!:)

I know he is an incredible dog, the person who eventually gets to have Trooper for a companion will be very very lucky.

I just got a Trooper update on my yahoo dog rescue group. What happy news!!
Trooper is doing great!!!! He went home yesterday, some bills still un paid, but our vet is GREAT!!! Boy he is an ACTIVE PUPPY. He wants to play with the other dogs so badly, but we have to keep him separate. He is definitely a puppy. Everything's a toy, he loves toes... Has A LOT of toys, but still thinks the automatic waterer is the best of all... loves the noise it makes when it's refilling, so he splashes all the water out so it will refill! A character all the way. He's a great dog. You can't tell he was ever tortured by a person. He just loves everyone. Thank you so much for helping our little miracle puppy.

Awww, that picture of him at the vet made me cry. :( Poor baby! How can people be so cruel?!
I'm so glad that he's getting the help he deserves. :) We know that the burns are going to heal, but what about his teeth? Are his gums and teeth going to be alright?
