View Full Version : Boycott All Pet Stores!
RICHARD

i went into the local privately owned feed/tack/pet store to buy some cat litter.
i have shopped at this store before and know the layout fairly well. as i walked in i made a beeline for the cat litter and proceeded to pick up a bag and headed toward the front of the store.
i placed the bag on the counter and jokingly asked the clerk if 'they had the cat to go with the litter'
she laughed at me and pointed to my left, she said
'we sure do...'
as i looked i saw three of the MOST PRECIOUS kitties all balled up in a cage on the floor..
i clucked my tongue at them and they looked up..
one was orange, another, solid gray and the last one was gray with a wonderfully striped face.
i nearly died...i wanted to take all of them home with me...they were sooooo tiny (when i first met Eddie he fit into the pocket of my t-shirt...)
after a minute or two i pulled myself away from the cage, but not before taking one last look over
my shoulder as i walked out.
i find that pet stores that use cute kitties as a way to get you all soft and gooey inside are the
worst places on the planet....i left my heart in that pet store..
i can't get three pairs of deep blue eyes out of my head....
there ought to be a law!!!!!

Whew! When I first read this thread, I thought maybe you were going to say something like they have discovered that pet stores have been putting frog toes in their foods, or something creepy like that! lol!!
Yes, kittens are INCREDIBLEY IRRESISTABLE!!!!!!
That is excatly how I discovered my little Romeo.
I went to Pets Mart to buy Sammy some new toys, and there they were, sitting like little powder puffs, exceptionally cute and adorable...SWEET KITTENS!!!
So, instead of bringing home some new toys for Sammy,I brought him home a new brother instead!:D
And of course, I could'nt stop thinking about the other little kittens
still there. Well, maybe I'll go get just one more baby!
Kittens are wonderfully addictive!!:)

After thinking about this thread for a while, I figured out that we got both Noel and Basie "just getting food" at PetSmart. ;)
Olivia, Micah and Hermoine were gotten volunteering so I wouldn't get anymore cats. ;)

Yes! The pet stores are evil! While we are at it, boycott Target too! It seems like people are always out front of my Target with a box of kittens or puppies. It takes all I can not to get one or two or three. hehe. My weakness is the puppies on the Saturday adoption days at Petsmart. I want them all!

Oh dear ... I too, was "caught" at the pet store admiring a pair of tuxy kitties that Pixel would LOVE for me to bring home for her to play with! Sigh.....not liking this one cat rule :(

You shouldn't come to PetTalk either. Look at Lily, Skylar, Bella, Hermione, Tigs, Juni Rose and all the other cute fluffballs ........
What feelings do you get if you look at them:confused:

You are so right, Richard. :D When I was at PetSmart yesterday, I purposely avoided the adoption area. Why torture myself? ;) :D

Imagine how I feel...I used to WORK at Petsmart. Every time I go there, I wind up talking to my former co-workers, and the vet techs are always trying to talk me into this or that kitty.
Matter of fact, I hav ea fat gray ball of fuzz sitting on my bed right now that some stinker at petsmart talked me into.

awww....c'mon Richard, enough with the excuses about a bigger place. You know your place is definitely big enough for 3 teeny tiny little kittens. I mean really, how much room can they take? ;) :D
And you also know that some of the meanest, toughest he-cats out there melt at the site of a kitten....just look at Ti with Juni. Who woulda thunk?
And besides, you'll never know until you try, right?
So what're waiting for?!!?? Go get 'em before they're gone!!! :D :D

GO Richard. Go out that door and to that petshop this minute
You know you NEED to rescue those three cute fluffyballs from the evil petshop.
I will expect three photos (Or one photo with three kittens), when I log on tomorrow ;)

Yeah Richard!! Go get them! ;) No excuses about a bigger place! Some people have like 6 cats in their apartment! :o ;) :D LOL LOL
Kittens are so adorable and addictive. I'm so surprised that I haven't come home with any "fosters" from the shelter I volunteer at. So many kittens, so little space! LOL
But Richard, you need to follow the cardinal rule of cats: cats are like potato chips, you can't have only one.....
**hint, hint**

And no more potato chip crumbs in your bed!! LOL!

I'm sorry you missed out on your kittens, Richard :( My mom has a friend that won't buy anything the first time he sees it. If he deicdes to go back leter and it is still there, well then he must have been meant to have it. If not, it wasn't ment to be...maybe these were the right kittie right now, and you'll know why later, but some irresitable little one shows up on your door sep, or at work or....
It is funny that you posted this. My best friend called last night. Seems her and her husband stopped at the mall Monday night, and saw the cutest kitty...they went back yesterday and took him home. ( that makes 4 for them!)

Richard, it really sounds like you're destined to adopt an orange kitten. And one should never argue with destiny. ;)

I agree that you should go to a shelter and adopt a little orange kitten. :) I'm sure your cat will get along with it in no time. Then you can bring it to the L.A. Pet Talk Barbecue and we can all meet him or her and take his/her picture. :D

Richard, All of the shelters here are full of kittens this year. Even our own local shelter is full again. There are orange, tabbies, black, calico, tuxedo, and there was a white one (until I adopted him). There was one black (Siamese mix) who practically begged me to take him. I wish I could have taken them all, but I already have a house full, and I do not regret it. I agree with the others, go get a kitten or 2 or 3, or whatever your heart desires. I do not believe that you will regret any adoptions that you make.

RICHARD,
Things happen for a reason. I had an experience with a pet store as well.
I went in to buy cat food and heard a kitten crying it's head off. I went over to the cage and there was this adorable tortie girl alone in the cage, begging for attention. Her brother had just be sold. I felt so bad, I went over to the owner of the store and asked him if I could just hold her for a little bit to try and calm her down. His response was "Ya gonna buy her???" When I asked how much, he said, "$250!!". I told him he should be ashamed of himself. "Hey, kittens are hard to find right now and they're at a premium," he said. (It was the middle of winter). I proceeded to throw the cat food (cans) on the counter (they went rolling all over the place) and walked out, never looking back. I have never been back there since.
Oh, and remember the Meezer I mentioned at the shelter, Diamond??? Well, I might be fostering her. I'm going into the shelter today to find out.
SOME Pet stores suck!!

Richard, I know how you feel! I wish I had a bigger place to be able to take in some more cats. Of course, the Queen of the house aka Juni would be very fussy, but she'd get over it. I just saw the most perfect black kitten ever today.... HHHmmm. Darn small apt.
But, anyway, I say go for it if another pair of eyes look into yours! Maybe a blacky to go with Eddie ;) (or whatever color)

The Petsmart are fine and the petceteras as the Cats and kittens are all healthy. What I and I think Richard are objecting to id the mom and pop Pet Food store where the kittens are dumped by irresponsible owners! and you dont know the history of the kitten and his or her health. I was lucky with pouncer Scrappy and Smokey , but a lot of people get stuck with a vet bill that is more than they expected. unregulated kitten adoption must stop!
