Cookie to the RB today

My little blue/cream tortie, Cookie, died this noon hour. Although I do not know why or how. The last I saw of her alive was about 10:30 AM, and when I returned from the animal shelter at about 11:30, she was dead laying in my grassy yard next to my driveway. Needless to say I was upset. She has alway been a good girl about being outside. When I call her she would usually show up at the door. Her demise has strange overtones, because I did not see any marks on her body, as if being hit by a car. The only thing that I can think of is that either the next door neighbor's kids accidently killed her, or she may have been bumped by a car on the road. She was blind in one eye and this may have had something to do with it, that whoever or whatever killed her, she probably did not see it coming.

Cookie you will be missed. Remembering how tiny you were as kitten, even clumbsy in your gait. I will always remember your crying out for me to recognize your need for cuddlies, and that you were a faithful pet. Every morning you would be at my feet on my bed, just like this morning. Good-bye my little friend.

I do appreciate all the support and friendship that is found on this forum. Thank you, sounds so inadequate, but right now, it is all I can say. Although having Solstice and Summer to take away the defeciencies of loosing Cookie, is a definite help. Right now there are 5 new kittens added to my menagerie; Midnight, Jumper, Callie, Solstice, and Summer. This time last month if anyone had told me that I would be having a bunch of kittens added, I probably would not have believed them.:)

After the initial shock of finding Cookie dead in my front yard, it is occuring to me that she may have fallen victim to a stray dog attack. Remembering the other day how a large dog, from the neighbor's accross the street, chased Amy up a tree. Normally, all of the dogs in my immediate neighborhood do not bother the cats. But this one large dog, who, BTW, does not live permanently accross the street, was definitely aggressive towards Amy, and I suspect when he saw Cookie he immediately went after her. Although I cannot prove any of this, it still bears some re-thinking. I remember coming in from the shelter that noon time and not finding my furkids at the door to greet me, which I though was strange. They were all hiding! Apparently, they either saw or heard Cookie being attacked, and it scared them. Also, none of the 2 remaining indoor/outdoor cats (Tiger and Amy) have a rentless desire to go outside any more. Even Pepper is reluctant to go outside, and he is a problem, being an opportunist, about keeping inside. Every morning they usually want to go outside. I just tell them, "No, you are not going outside, I am not going to loose you like I did Cookie"........and they understand! I am finding the main reason these two like to go outside is so they can eat grass. So, I bring in grass each day for all of them. Amy likes to sleep the day away from the others, so I'll have to make her a little hide-away place, inside.

Wayne I am so saddened to hear of Cookies passing. I'm sorry for the delay in posting this, but I just couldn't open this thread up for a few days. I know what it is like to come home and find one of your furbabies dead, as I had found my mom's Blackie a few houses down, dead in one of our neighbours yards.

thanks, all, for your concern and condolences. Even though I have taken other furkids in the mean time, I still miss Cookie. I have ceased to let Tiger, Amy, and Pepper outside. They do not demand to go outside anymore. Every time I let any of them outside, I wonder if they will come home again. Cookie is the first one not to do so. so, I will try to keep all of them inside from now on. The other day Otis got outside. I try to keep him inside because of him chasing all the other cats away. I do not know why, but he had come back home through the cat door that I installed in the basement and was on the descending steps wanting to come back inside!
