I got a BIRD!!!

Yesterday, we stopped by the Pet Store where we got Prince. I looked at the puppies, and then I looked at the rats and lizards. I told my mom we had to look at the birds. We went over there, and there were a couple different kinds. I put my finger down, and this cockatiel just got right on. It sat on my shoulder... finally I put it down, and was going to see if any of the other birds would go on my finger. None of them did. I begged my mom... she said it was up to me. I finally decided yes, and my mom paid for the bird and I paid for the starters kit(cage, bird feed, waterers and feeders) It was more expensive than the bird! I got some pics too. Here they are!

OMG! What a CUTIE and brave bird to meet a big pup! :D From the pics, he/she looks very young, so your bird is probably just a few months old. After the first molt, its easier to tell if its a male or female. Right now, the looks are female, but if the bird is young, it could very well be a male. Since you have a normal gray cockatiel, when he/she gets older, if its a male, the face you become a very bright yellow with no gray on the face. If not, its probably a female. If the bird is vocal, (singing a lot) its probably a male. Good luck with your new tiel! One thing I'd like you to be aware of, since it seems your pups and bird already love each other :), is that don't allow them to lick the bird or for the bird to touch their saliva in any way. Birds have very little bacteria in their mouths and the bacteria from the mouths of dogs and cats can make them very ill or even kill them. Also, be very careful when the bird's around the dogs, because you just never know. It seems your pup is very sweet with him/her already though. In Western australia, they call them 'Weiro's" - why? .....I have no idea. Sister in law has many mainly yellow and muted yellow and grey, and some grey with a white face. They are wonderful pets, and it seems so easy to tame. Don't know much about them, but the males have a great 'Wolf Whistle' and can easily be trained to talk.

Actually Dogz, I used to breed them, for fun, but I have others now. The tiels are lots of fun, especially if you hand raise one for the house, Oh they are funny.

Nelly is doing great!:) He (I will just call her/him a he right now) has a really great personality! :cool: He loves to sit on your shoulder, and makes a weird noise when we hiss/cluck at him! He thinks it is so much fun! He loves to climb all over his cage and be a big show off.
