Ohhh I got goosebumps reading about Bassetts burns. Ouchy.
Poor baby. I'm so sorry it hurts her.

Naomi, whenever my cat or dog had a sore on them, the vet recommended Ozonol, the regular one and it worked wonders.
Ask your vet about it.
Maybe you might have to put a cone on her until it starts to heal more.

Apart from that, I'm so glad to hear she is doing much better.

Great update video. :D Bassett's burns sure look like they'd be painful. :( I sure hope that she heals up quickly. Take care.

Poor Bassett, those burns look so nasty. Glad you're not letting them keep your cattitude down. I hope they heal quickly.

Cute video A/V Dept. :D

I thought it was cute when you said "Doesn't she look good in my hat" (or close to that anyway). I was expecting a pic of Bassett with your hat on, but instead it was Naomi. You're too sweet. :D

I'm glad to hear she is doing so good. You gotta know that if the tortietude is back that she's feeling much better, and that is wonderful, wonderfu, wonderful news!!! :D

I went to the vet today and asked about what to treat the burns. They said that polysporin was fine, and that the main thing was to keep the burn moist and covered with a bandage. So, she looks like she is wearing a lovely purple tube top right now (I got some purple vet wrap) and she's all bandaged and treated. The burn on her left looked even worse this morning, so I wanted to make sure I was treating it properly. As for right now, she really hates the tube top, but I don't think she'll be able to get it off.

I'll keep you posted! :)

I would love to see a picture of Bassett in that tube top.

I'm glad to hear that she is doing well. Hopefully her burns will heal very quickly.

I can't believe that something that was supposed to help her through the surgery is actually making her feel worse than the surgery itself! :( I sure hope she can't get at the burn so it can heal up and then she'll be all better. :)

We do have some, and Nate is planning on getting them up today :)

She hasn't been able to get at the actual burns, but she has worked her bandages big time! She's chewed through them in several places. They are starting to look rather pathetic, but I only want to change them once a day, before bed time. Bassett doesn't really play at night, so if they go on then, she has a good 4-6hours where she sleeps. Right now she's chewing like mad, trying to get them off, but as long as the burns are still covered, I'm not going to make her wear a cone. She get so depressed. Hopefully, it won't come to that!

I'll keep you posted on this ongoing saga! ;)

Well, Bassett had to be coned :( If not just for her sake, but for mine!!! I don't want to get bitten while I'm trying to wrap her wounds. She let me do it today, but I don't know how long she will let me keep it up. I called the vet and asked if I can bring her in and get help with it, and they said ok. I have all my own supplies, I just need an extra pair of hands.

Right now, she's carefully moving around, trying figure out how to walk with a cone on. I try not to laugh, but I have to admit, it's funny when she tries to walk and gets her cone stuck on the carpet ;)

So... I will keep you posted. Nate has the digi cam, so I can't get any pictures posted of her conehead :)

Yep, I got two that would be doing the same thing. ;) :D

I'm sorry you have to wear a cone, sweetie, but like everything else, it really is for your own good, and it'll be gone before you know it. Just keep up the good work on healing. :D

Unless the Vet is going to offer the extra pair of hands for FREE -
I'd scout the neighborhood for a Nurse, Physical Therapist, Dental Assistant, Dog/Kat Lover; heck - even a Retired Quack ~
All you need is another Set of Hands attached to a somewhat Functional Brain! :p

Trim Bassett's KLAWZ; equip your New Assistant Wrapper with a pair of Leather Gloves - and Wrap Away!

Now THAT's not fair!! :(

*Phunnie* as the Walk & Bump & Stumble routine may be...
TRY not to laff!!
You don't want to bruise her ego! :p

Probably one of the *phunniest* stunts Boots da Kat pulled during his post-operative / ConeHead daze - was the Kliner Chair Vault...

Boots had *heard* Ice Creme being dished up and was circling the chair plotting a method of mounting the arm rest to *dip a paw* as is his custom... The Dawgz were on Full Alert sitting on my feet... All Three *lissnin* for the tell-tail *clink* of Spoon on ALMOST Empty Ice Creme Bowl...

Boots could wait no longer ~
A mighty *LEAP* to the arm rest...
And the Cone caught the edge of the chair :(.
I swear he did a Purfikt Back Flip and
Landed - Cone FLAT Down on the floor -
then did a Head Stand ON The CONE for at least 10 seconds  ~
before falling onto his back!

I waited (holding my breath - did he *break* anything??) until he scrambled onto his feet; shook head, body, AND Cone rather forcefully; and dashed off to the privacy of the bathroom falling wadur klozit for a good pout...

The Dawgs stared at me with alook that said "Did he just DO THAT!?"

Hate to admit it - but I almost died *laffin*!

And poor Boots got ALL of the ice creme "soup" that was in the bowl (when his pride let him return).

Enjoy the Cone Humor - but try to Laff Quietly! :p

The less functional the better - at least then they will be brave enough to hold Bassett's head! :)

I don't think my vet will charge me, especailly since I am using my own products. I have all the gauze/tape/etc that I need. I'm also trying to buy some of my own vet wrap (there is a thread in General called "Is this website reliable?" please check it out if you have time) so I don't have to use the vet's stuff.

And I try to laugh quietly.. I even talk on the phone and pretend to have heard a funny joke.. I don't think she's falling for it though! :p :D

Naomi ~

You may do a LOT better asking Your Vet to sell you a roll or two!

After you add shipping & handling costs to an i-net mail order - I'd bet your Vet will sell it to you either cheaper or Match The Price. ASK!

And Boots never fell for the *hidden laff* either!
I caught MANY an Icy Glare from an embarrassed ( ) Kat!

He was really GOOD at managing the lower front edge of the Cone...
His *problem* was the UPPER edge and the SIDES of the Cone!

He made some absolutely **SPECTACULAR** collisions with things he was trying to run past or around...
and he NEVER figured out how to get *under* overhead obstructions! :p

Even the Dawgs seemed to *wince* when he'd have a Cone *pile up*! :D

Bassett's tube top went from purple to yellow today. I must say she looks very summery :)

She's at the vet for boarding now. She is NOT happy. Also, I ordered two rolls of vetrap and they are also ordering me a product that disolves the sticky off the medical tape, so I don't have to rip her fur (:( OUCHIE! :() I'll be picking her up tomorrow, so I'll let you know how she did overnight :)

Awwww poor dear Bassett. You must be so unhappy right now with all that you have been through and still having to go through. Don't worry sweetie, in no time at all when all this is over and all your boo-boo's are healed, you and your meowmie will be singing, "I'm The Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A. and Canada too."

Lexie just wanted to say to Bassett, she knows all too well what it is like wearing those silly cone's.
She say's she preferred to sit on the tables once it was on, it seemed more comforting for some reason, something she does not do normally.
And BTW she also say's you are a fashion statement, my cone was plain clear plastic, no pretty colours.
Lexie sends nose kisses to Bassett, and wants her to know, it is not too bad wearing the cone, and if you are real good girl, mummy will take it off for a while, mind you when mine was off I used to take advantage of it and have a real good pull and bite at my tail.:) :D

Nomilynn
07-17-2003, 08:15 PM
Bassett says "Hey Lexie.. I'm trying to convince my mom to take it off for a bit.. but she gets mad when I pull at my tube top.. well GEESH. If I'm going to be stylish it HAS to be in place. Plus, Tilly keeps sneaking up behind me and poking me.. and I get REALLY mad because I can't see!! I feel like I have blinders on! If only my mom would just take the darn thing off!!"

Bassett did fine at the vet. They didn't change her bandage because they said it was sitting nicely, but right now it's starting to show a bit of her bigger scab so I will be changing it later. Poor baby.. I hope these scabs heal faster than what the vet predicted (which was a MONTH!!!!!)

I'll keep ya posted :)

After I got Bassett's bandages changed tonight, she started twitching and acting strange, and I thought that maybe on of the bandages were hurting her. So, I took them all off. It turns out she was just having some kind of panic attack. She went nuts, yowling, scratching and biting at me, panting and sweating on her paws :( :( :( I was totally scared and freaked out by this. I locked her in the bathroom, and waiting until she calmed down (about half an hour I guess) and then went in there with her. I took her cone off and scratched all around her head, and let her clean herself a bit (but not letting her lick the scabs) because she hasn't been able to wash her face and paws for a while now. Eventually she started purring and calmed down enough to let me put more bandages on her, but I've never seen her like that. I guess it's a good thing that she's fighting but I hate to see her in such distress. As soon as I got her cone back on, she was growling and hissing at me again. I KNOW that is what is stressing her out so bad. I'm wondering about getting some bitter spray to put all over the bandages, and leaving the cone off? However, I kind of get the feeling that she is determined enough that she would suffer through the taste and bite her bandages anyway.

I'm so upset about this. I hate to see her like this - hasn't she been through enough???? I'm also afraid she will start up her behavioural problems again, like peeing everywhere. The last time she was this mad, she peed on every pile of clothes and in every box/laundry basket she could climb into. This isn't fair.. her surgery was supposed to put an END to all her stress, not start up some new ones for her :( Poor baby :(

Barbara
07-18-2003, 02:58 AM
This reminds me of human behavior after surgery: first you feel physically bad and concentrate on just feeling better. You are glad it's over and went well. As the physical recovery advances your soul understand what happened and is afraid of everything that could have happened -your soul simply isn't synchronized with your body. For humans there is rehabilitation then - but for a kitty it is more difficult.

I think it is good if you give her daily some quality time without the bandages and the cone. Poor little Bassett -after such an ordeal the way to complete recovery is a tough one:)

And poor Naomi: I am sure that being the purrfect cat mom is sometimes quite tough for you too. {{{{Hugs}}}} for both of you.

I think this is an excellent idea! Of course, if you don't change the bandages everyday that part might not work, but when you do change them, if you can leave her with them off for a short time - like 1/2 hour or so - that might make her feel all that much better and able to cope once the bandages and cone come back.

Poor Bassett and poor you. :( It is a good thing that she's fighting which means she's feeling better, but if the two of you can just endure for a short time yet, it should all be over soon.

{{{Hugs}}} to you and skritchies for Bassett. And hang in there....:)

Oh you poor darling Bassett! Any idea how much longer she will need to be bandaged??? I am sure she will feel a bit better if she has some grooming time with her bandages off as often as you can manage - poor kitties just hate to be dirty - it upsets them so much!

Big hugs for both of you - I really hope things will soon be back to normal - you have both been through so much.

Sending special prayers that this will all be behind you very soon!

Best wishes,
