just now, Im in the den, and Emma was in the kitchen, and she meows, in a way that i know she is calling out to me! usually she will continue it til I go there, but this time thankfully she came to me, she wants to be petted, and have her chin and head scratched!:D she is really a character sometimes!

Lucky does that to me all the time! If I leave the room and he doesn't realize it, he will howl like he is lost! I have to call for him to follow my voice so he knows where I'm at. Too funny!
Yoshi also does this sometimes in the middle of the night, he will wake up, not see anyone and start to cry. Naturally I get up and go get him.

Snowy calls for me, and he calls for his favorite toy.
I can hear the difference in his voice.:)

Oh yes! Sometimes when I go in the basement she will sit at the top of the stairs and give out a cry that is heartbreaking! She stops when I go to the bottom of the stairs and she can see me. She does the same sometimes when I go upstairs. I'll hear her calling and look over the banister to see her just sitting there...looking up at me.
And, mind you, Edwina goes up and down the stairs all the time!

:D :D LOL

Tubby does this ALL the time, and is most persistent right after we go to bed. He goes to the basement and just yowls like he has lost his best buddy or something. He really sounds like he's in pain or something, so Terry always asks me "What is wrong with him?" I just  because I know I'll go to see what's wrong with him. I'll get to the top of the stairs and there he'll be sitting, right at the bottom of the stairs looking up at me ever so innocently, wondering why I'm looking at him.
Every night we go to bed, and every night Tubby yowls like that. Now I just call to him and he comes. Sometimes I have to call a couple of times before he quiets down.  Sometimes I think he can't hear me because he's yowling so loud.
I don't know, but somewhere along the line I heard that cats do this as they get older....so now Peanut has started too. She'll do it in the morning while I'm in the bathroom getting ready, and Terry is already upstairs working. She'll sit at the bottom of the stairs (what is it with the stair thing?) and start meowing. She wants somebody to walk up the stairs so she can go tearing up alongside them - which is one of her favorite things to do. So when I hear her and I'm in the bathroom, I come out, go up the stairs. I get about half way up and she goes tearing all the way up. I go back to the bathroom and she goes to work with her daddy.

Yes Mary, my Lexie is very different to any other cat i have ever owned, she has so many different miaows, noises, little chirps, its so cute, if she wants me or wants out, she makes this big howling type noise, she is forever chatting to me, i used to think something was wrong with her all the time, till i realised she was just being chatty, Ash is non-vocal, its a new experience to me, but i love all her little noises, she has so many different ones, it will take a little time for me to figure them all out.
Kona & Oreo's mom
05-30-2003, 04:11 PM
Oh, yes! Kona calls me when I have gone outside into the backyard, but she is not allowed to come out with me. I can hear the certain *yowl*, and she'll stop once I answer her. I wonder if she does that when I'm not home to answer?

Sometimes when Tinky and Jupiter get crazy at night Eric will lock them out of the bedroom and after a few hours Tinky will sit at the door and meow.. meow..meow..meow. Then when I open the door she is happy.:)

Ever since Noah was a little fuzz ball he'd call out to me if he couldn't see me. :) (My sweet boy!!! *tummy flutters*) He does it still and it melts my heart...its almost sounds like he's saying, "Mommy??????????". :)

Kacey yowls from another room every once in awhile. I'll ask him what's the matter, which usually brings him running. Of course, he once figured out how to use the telephone, so he's pretty good at communicating!

All. The. Time.
In the rare case that Boo hasn't followed me around the whole house and has somehow ended up in a room without me, he will give out a little questioning meow or chirp.

Tibby does this all the time, before I used to go over to her to see what was wrong or what she wanted. But now I've learned that when she meows I just need to call her name and she'll come to me. I think she just does it because she doesn't know where I am.

These are all so funny! LOL! Sammy does this "MOW" "MOW" i (minus the e!) when he wants lovies, and he does it real loud and serious until he jumps in my lap, sometimes he'll just mouth the word "meow", without any sound come out! It's funny! Romeo started doing this chirping sound that sounds more like a pigeon than a cat! this he does with his mouth closed, it's silly! Or he says "OW" "OW" (minus the ME!):D

Elvira does this. She'll wander off into the laundry room and it's like she gets lost! lol All of a sudden you'll hear this totally mournful yowl. All you have to do is say her name and she comes running, all lovey dovey like she hasn't seen you in days!

Beau does calls me, Felicia not very much.
Ally Cat's Mommy
05-31-2003, 01:18 AM
Ally likes to sit on my bookshelf in the study and harass the birdies outside (they nest next to the aircon, and she can smell them and see them - she just can't.....quite....reach.....them.) If the study door is closed she screams her head off until someone opens it for her.
The other day I was having a nice soak in the bath, and my hubby and son decided to go to the swimming pool in our compound. Ally was sleeping on Cameron's bed and she woke up when they slammed the front door closed - then proceeded to YEOW like a fire siren - running though the house looking in every room - she wwas so upset 'cos she thought everyone had left without saying goodbye and giving her a treat. I called her from the bathroom and she was so happy to see me - she jumped up on the side of the bath for snuggles and head-bumpies!

well when they did it to hear where I was, I didn't mind it so much, but now they have been so spoiled, and keep it going even after I answer them, it bugs me, I have to ignore them to make them stop, as long as I know they don't need food or water, and nothing is wrong... sometimes Charlie or Louise will do the crying thing around 4 or 5 AM til I want to yell, then I see they are out of food, and then I feel bad... not often but sometimes the dish runs empty in the middle of the night!
lately some of them do it because they are bored and want to play. Charlie and Cassie especially lately seem to be needing more attention...

LOL!!!!! Pixel does that too. In fact, EVERY morning at 6 a.m. on the dot, she wakes us up by chewing on our hair, running around and jumping on the side table next to me. I lock her out, and she starts meowing at the door!! If it is a work day, she gets let back in when we get up. If it is not a work day, I go back to sleep and she gets let back in a lot later! :)

Ahh yes, the kitty call of the wild! Too funny!!:D sammy does this too, and the "mrrrrtttt" is always like he's asking a question! It's always "mrrrttt???" As a mater of fact, Sammy did this the other night, was saying mrrrrtttt??, while tearing through the house like a Tazmanian Kitty Devil !! Well, I heard several bangs and crashes, needless to say, the next morning, I seen that he had knocked over a potted plant. Not only did he knock it over, but he had to strangle it, wrestle with it, and rub the soil nicely into mommy's beige carpet! And of course Sammy was proudly strutting around it, as if to say to me "see mommy, I took care of that mean plant for ya! :D

Tex always calls to me. Tenny and Dakky 'whine' to me...and Ally needs me to go see her when she chirps. I usually just try to call their names, and have them come to me. Every once in a while, I do get up to see what is going on cause if seems so serious. Each time, I get a kitty staring at me, "finally, what took you so long?"

Sunny is my yowler. He usually does this at night after I've gotten into bed. I call his name and he usually stops but not always. He also does this during the day to get Storm's or Cirrus's attention because he wants to play. :) My RB Pepper used to do this too. He'd be walking down the hall and then he'd start yowling like he was in pain. I'd call him and then finally go see what his problem was. He's fine and just wants some attention. Storm used to always run to him when he did this but quickly learned that it meant nothing was wrong. :)

Tigris looks at me with with a very dominant grin, saying: "maaayyy". Means: You have to change something. And that a little quickly.
He does NOT say please!!!
Filou sometimes whines in the staircase, saying: I am a lonely kitty and lost my waaaayyyyy in the woods.........
Inka is our little "caller" here! Whenever she looses me out of her sight, the calling starts... :D

Trey and Gusty call me, they seem to have their own language, and they respond to me when I talk to them. They have a special language they use when they have a particular need. Most of the time they just show me what they want, but other times I can sense what they want by the type of kitty sound they make. Fascinating and fun. One likes me to read or tell her stories and makes little sounds of approval every so often so I will continue. Reminds me of my own kids when they were small. "More, Mom, more."
:) ;)
