:mad: :mad: I got a newsletter in the mail yesterday, from the aspca, and it had a story in it about a dog named Astor, that they had to take away from his abusive owner... a neighbor reported it, the dog was barely able to move, and (there was a pic included) you could see his ribs! AND the bastard admitted to trying to starve the dog to death! he almost succeeeded!

wasn't that an awful pic? I don't which is worse, admitting you tried to starve an animal, or to claim being too stupid to know you have to FEED a dog, and provide water/shelter..?:mad:

How can someone do something like that? What a vile, pathetic excuse for a human being. I got a newsletter from the RSPCA recently, and there was an article and a picture of a horse that had been starved through neglect. It was horrible! These individuals really ought to be shot, or in the very least, not allowed to breed!!

that is sooo awful!!! i don't understand why people have pets and do that to them and then say "i don't have the money to help it..." i watch those shows on animal planet...the one for nyc and the one for detroit. the detroit one has the worse cases and i cry every time i watch it. :( :(

What state/city was this dog from?

Is that newsletter online somewhere? (I am interested in the picture)

that story sounds like it may fit with what little we know of Marshall's (our foster dog) situation. :( :mad:

It's not Marshall in the ASPCA newsletter. The picture shows
the dog & it's a Doberman. His condition & situation does
sound exactly like what you said about your newest foster dog,
but it's not the same dog. I'm not sure if the ASPCA has their
newsletter on the website, but you might check it out.

I wish Astor had been our Marshall. That would be one less dog that needed rescue. :(

I hope Astor gets to a home that will love him, and take away all the bad memories. :)

Hi Everyone,

I just thought I would share some information about Astor.

Astor is the dog that the ASPCA uses to try and spread the word about pet abuse and negelect. I started receiving the newsletters and mailers years ago (10 years ago <or longer>) and it had Astors picture back then.

Our rescue group was talking about poor Astor the other night and just how long he has been their "spokes person-dog".

We just hope that Astor (years ago) found a better life and had the oportunity to live out his days with a wonderful family.

I personally would rather see Astor each time than a new dog with each new newsletter. My heart breaks each time I see him anyway.

People do some sick things to animals I know. I've taken in some very VERY abused animals. It's so hard not to just find the sick-o and do the same things to them. But as we all know that make us no better then them........But it be nice!;)

This is a picture of Mooch, I took her in 15 years ago after her owner set her on fire. Months and months of care to save her. Even the vet said she wouldn't make it. I'm so glad we made a lier out of him.:D Mooch is what started me taking in more pets like her. I now have a house full.
I know how sick it make you all to hear of things like this, but I bring it up for a reason. If you have it in you to care for an abused pet go to your animal control and see if you can help. The rewards you get are wonderful. Without help these pets in a lot of cases will be put to sleep. Some states don't have the funds to care for a badly abused animal, so they have no choice but to put them down. They will make one of the best pets you ever had. OK I wont push it on you any more, just think about it. :D If you can't tell I have strong feeling on this. :)
