This may be a dumb question, and I'm assuming the answer is yes, just to be on the safe side, but are dogs affected by poison ivy?? We're working on the back part of the yard (the part that won't be fenced in), and it looks like there may be some back there--the dogs walk out back a lot, but I don't let them in the weeds.

I can't say if dogs actually suffer any irritation from Poison Ivy...

But I can say with GREAT CERTAINY that they can rub *IN* poison ivy and then VERY successfully transmit said poison ivy to the unwary Hoomin!!

My Dear RB :( Shepherd Casey had a grand ole tyme one day playing in a fence row - which I didn't know until it was WAY too late - had a nice collection of poison ivy growing amid the other flora and fauna... :eek: :eek:

After giving her a routine {{{Hug}}} Rub & Petting
session --- *I* began to *itch*...
and ITCH and SCRATCH and ITCH for days!

After gettin worse instead of better - and asking everyone I knew "where" it could be getting on me from...
a friend asked if Casey could have gotten into it?

THAT's when I learned that Dawgs can get the sap form the poison ivy plant on their coat/fur - and spread it to anyone that touches the Dawg!

She got a thorough washing in strong dish washing soap laced with something else I've now forgotten;
And I bathed in every Poison Ivy remedy I could find!

BEWARE! You can't *see* the poison ivy on their coat!

Oh my! You're asking the posion ivy expert! Eek! I'm well known in 3 different emergency rooms as having gotten the worst case of posion ivy ever seen in Washington state! Dogs are unaffected by it, but if they get the oil on their fur and it's not washed all the way off, you can get it. Remember to wash their collars and bandanas, too. If you're interested in facts, www.poison-ivy.org is a really good web site. My story is the one entitled "He finally figured out it was poison ivy". :D

Drake always gets into Poison Ivy and never gets irritated. But if Andrew rubs him or pets him aftwards, he gets it!! I on the other hand have no reaction to Poison Ivy.
