Love those yorkies! Owning a yorkie one day has always been a secret desire of mine along with about 3-4 other breeds! So many awesome dogs, so little time...... :D

Omg, I just don't think I can vote in this poll. I ADORE Yorkies and can't wait to have one of my own (complete with ribbons in her hair, hehe). But Fox Terriers have my heart because of my Harley boy. I also love the Jacks and Rats and .. well I just LOVE terriers ... and the scruffier the better! :)

I think I'll vote for the Fox but I do love them ALL!

i love bull terriers! they are so affectionate! i almost got one b/c i was 'playing' with one, but all he wanted to do is sit in my lap and get some lovin'. i swear that if i had the money with me that day i would have walked out of that store with him without a second thought!!!! :D

although 'the pup' was only 10 weeks (i think  ) he would have grown up to look like this! so handsome!! :D :D :D

Well this is probably no surprise, but I LOVE Cairns!!!:)
They're a lot more easy going and willing to please then
some terriers and I just can't resist their cute scruffy faces.

Couldn't help but vote for Yorkies!! I just love my little MollyMonster! Here she is just before her next puppy haircut:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid64/p31fcfa06a8b930cfa44883acb785adea/fbfe2bd2.jpg

We have her groomed because HATES to be brushed. The short haircut is easier on both of us.

She has been so much fun for me. I didn't even mind that puppy stage with her. She's the first dog I took all the puppy learning in stride.

For now, I'm going to have to vote for Airedale because it's the one I know the most about since my mom's got one purebred and a airedale mix too!

As if you couldn't tell by the name. i've had terriers all of my life. first was a Bedlington she lived to be 20. then the Airedales, then the wire foxes and then the Airedales again. Right now I'm terrierless :(

Hey, thanks for your kind words about my own Bedlington. I am so happy for you in the fact that your Bedlington lived for so long. They are the most amazing dogs.
Mine was named "Princess" - and she would save the underdog, if I raised my voice at my daughter,( like 'Do you want a smack?') the dog would be there protecting her against me.
When I was in bed at night, the dog had her basket beside me......and if my daughter came to the door, the dog would be on my chest saving me from anyone who was coming through that door.
My hubby bought me home from hospital after a major op. once ,and 'Princess' fought him while he was trying to put me to bed.......he had to shoo her out.
Oh!,(this is funny) ......in the middle of the night, when hubby had to use the en-suite, she would not let him out, he used to have to throw things at me to wake me up to save him ( I wear ear plugs as he snores, so don't hear anything).
Then I lost her,.....I loved her more than life itself, I loved her more than living,,,,,,,,, and had a break down after having her die in my arms - my daughter was there at that moment too.
I am glad you have the Airedales, as they are wonderful Terriers too. Regards, Mich

I never got a spanking as long as Honey, the Bedlington was around! She was the most remarkable swimmer, Esther Williams could have taken lessons!!:D

Well, Princess never got the chance to swim, though we would go to the coast, I couldn't think of the seaweed in her fluffy coat.

Yes, I loved her very much!!!

My favorite breed is the Miniature Schnauzer. Yes, they are barkers but they are also the most human like dog I have ever been around. Loving, entertaining, playful, curious and protective of their loved ones.
Someday I would like to own a Black Giant Schnauzer as they are not the barkers that Mini's are but are equally loving when they are gotten from good educated breeders. They are great watch dogs and have the most beautiful coat I have ever seen.

Mich
06-22-2003, 10:58 PM
Dear dasha10....well it must be also said of the standard poodle, as they are not yappy dogs, in fact they are totally different to the smaller varieties. I have lots of the small ones. Mine is a Labradoodle.......but mix with a few Standard Poodle owners, and these dogs are amazing.

I of course voted for Yorkie terriers! But I do like Silkie and Skye Terriers but I'm pretty sure Yorkies are Silkies and Skyes crossbred. Also In the Wizard of Oz Dorthy's dog, Toto, was played by a Carin Terrier just thought I'd share.;)

I love all of them but my very favorite is the Yorkie! I have a Yorkie named Tiffany and she is just toooooooooo adorable! lol I have all the bows and barrettes that go along with owning one. I take her everywhere with me. She just hops in my bag and off we go. I've had her everywhere, the mall, etc. and nobody even knows I have a dog with me.

I have to say that the Cairn Terrier is my favorite too. We have one and his name is Sammy. He is a high energy dog, with lots of personality. We (my boyfriend and I) love him dearly. However, we feel he is getting lonely and want to get another dog. Do you reccomend getting another Cairn or a different breed?

PS.. I am a newby here.

Hiya sammy's mom!

Murph was my first Cairn and I got another Cairn, when he was 6 mos old, Maddie. As puppies, they got along pretty well, played together and everything. As they matured though, Maddie got very dominant with Murph and he wasn't exactly gung ho to back down, so they had many lil' squabbles. As Maddie became a senior and got more cranky, they had more frequent lil' fights, but as bad as they sounded sometimes, they never escalated past some hair yanking.

When they were both around 11, I got a Smooth Collie, Oz. He was perfect for both of them. He and Murph loved to play with each other and he and Maddie loved to nap with each other. Oz has a very non-challenging personality, so it was real easy for him to fit in with both of them. I also felt he was big enough so that they couldn't hurt him, but with that gentle personality, he wouldn't try to hurt them either. I was really more worried about the Cairns hurting the other dog vs the other way around, so I wouldn't have even considered a dog smaller then them. I probably will never have 2 terriers at once again either, but I know a lot of Cairn folks that do. I just have decided that Collies and a terrier make a great melding of personalities.

Only the Mini Schnauzer is considered a Terrier. :) That's not to say that the other 2 schnauzer breeds don't exhibit Terrier tendencies.

My favorite terrier is a miniature Pinscher.

I also like Dachshunds
Rat terriers
Pit bulls
and Boarder terriers

I'm not much of a terrier person, altho I do have a min- pin. I grew up with a yorkie and altho he was a great dog, I never want another yorkie.

Look at this Norfolk Terrier, the Norwich Terrier with floppy ears - isn't he cute? :D

There are soo many terriers to choose from. Although some don't think it's a true terrier, the Tibetan Terrier gets my vote. http://www.puppyshop.com/caninebreeds/dogimages/tibetanterrier_pdw.jpg
I also like the Smooth Fox and the Patterdale. I don't really care for the smaller terriers like the Yorkie, Scottie, Rat Terrier, ext.

I don't really think of the bully and staffy breeds as terriers too often. I think of them more as mastiff type dogs or working breeds. tikeyas_mom- I like the Roman nose of the bull terrier too.http://rds.yahoo.com/S=96062883/K=bull+terrier/v=2/SID=e/TID=I015_79/l=IVS/SIG=12e3sjm4e/EXP=1111355780/*-http%3A//www.lupus.hjem.wanadoo.dk/racer4/Bull%20Terrier.jpg
