As some of you know, Prince has been doing A LOT of chewing. I think it is because he is teething, and I gave him tons of toys to chew on.
He has eaten:
3 trees each $50- $150
Flowers- $10
Latice on steps- $10
Digital Camera... my fault:o - $200
$370:eek:
My mom told me that he has to be chained during the night.:( I don't know what to do. I bought sour apple stuff for our trees, so hopefully that helps.

Have you tried obedience school? I'm sure it will be cheaper than relplacing everything that he chews.

Actually I am trying to submit him into some training classes this summer.:)

This worries me. :( Is he an outside dog? I *really* don't like the thought of leaving a dog chained up unattended...it's not safe. Couldn't you get him a crate to stay in at night?

I agree! It would definatly be cheaper! Maybe you should just keep Prince in a crate durring the night! That way he wont be able to chew, but than he wont learn that its bad...

GOOD LUCK!!!!!! :D

Crates are a good option--that's how we keep Abbey from destroying the house--man is she ever a chewer:eek:

yep crates are a good idea. It also makes them feel like they have an area of the house to themselves, when they don't want anyone bothering them.

I don't really see how obedience could keep a dog from chewing, ecspecially when they are teething, but it is a good idea in any case..Ecspecially with the more obstinate breeds! ;) :D

I have a crate in my room and that's where Nebo sleeps at night. I think it's great idea to get a crate, please let us know what your mom says.

As far as chewing, what you need to do is teach him what he CAN chew, not that chewing is "bad." Provide him with lots of hardy toys, such as kongs...fill them with treats, etc, and praise him for chewing on them.

In my opinion, the best way to have a dog not destroy items with the chewing, is to just not have those items available. Watch him at all times, and when you can't watch him, crate him. Remember, you can't punish a dog for doing something if you don't catch them in the act...therefore, if he's chewing things while you are away, if you are not there to stop him the moment he's doing it, he won't know its bad.

The bitter apple really didn't stop Nebo...hope it works better with Prince! :)

Thanks!
We fenced our trees, and we are keeping a very close eye on him. He is being a good boy so far, and also I gave him tons of toys that are made for chewing on.:D
Thanks everybody!

I have to agree....obedience school would teach him obedience (duh!) and would be a lot more cheaper in the long run than him chewing up everything in sight!

Roxy chews real bad too. I can say that all the dogs I've ever had always grew out of chewing in a few years. I always keep chew toys and fresh rawhides available to her. It seems to help. We have had to fence off all our plants and trees though. We don't leave anything we dont wan't destroyed in the backyard with her. She isn't really allowed in the house much right now. You have to totally have your eyes on her. If you turn your back for 20 seconds, she has something in her mouth.

Reminds me of something funny. The other morning, I woke up, and I looked outside...Roxy was walking across the backyard with a light in her mouth. You know those garden lights people put like in walkways and stuff? It had the cords dangling from it. I was confused cause we don't have lights in our yard. She'd dug a hole into the neighbor's yard and stole it. She walks up to me totally casually like no big deal with this freakin light in her mouth. I was mortified because I didn't want the neighbor to be mad, but I couldn't get mad at Roxy because she had no idea. The neighbor didn't mind cause she got new lights out of it. We'd put river rock all along our flower beds, but she found one spot where she could still dig out.

I agree with everybody else.
We all know what I went through with Rocky the destroyer.
Chewing is natural for a puppy.
Just figure when Prince matures,
your mom can start gardening again. :D

I like that! loudlou:............Unconditional Love from Prince..........
PRICELESS!
