Hi everyone. :) I've noticed this a few times lately. When Sunny is playing roughly with Storm, Cirrus will sit there and watch them and start meowing a lot. It sounds like he's crying. I've never seen a cat do this. Do you think he just wants to play too. Is he jealous? I know that when I play with him and the others, he'll get very excited and he'll start meowing then too. He almost does the chattering noise because he becomes very excited. It's very funny. :D Has anyone's cat ever done this?

It sounds as though he my just be empathetic with all of the excitement. No, I have never heard of a cat do that form of behavior. Do you think that he would play if you were to pick him up and bring him into the fray? You might try this and see how he reacts.

Juni does this when we talk on high tones

I don't think he's jealous. I think he's just excited or he doesn't like too rough behaviour.

............wayne He and Sunny play together all the time. Storm will usually just chase him and this frightens him. Maybe he thinks that Storm is hurting Sunny but he's afraid to stop the rough play to defend Sunny. Cirrus was born to feral parents and wasn't touched much as a kitten so he doesn't really trust humans. He'll let me pet him and brush him but I can't pick him up and he's not a lap cat.

Tracey, I think you're right about Cirrus thinking that Storm may hurt Sunny and is afraid to interrupt.

Cirrus sounds a lot like Fister, he was (as you probably know) born in our backyard and didn't have much contact with humans until we took him up. And he certainly doesn't like to be picked up either. He will lay in our bed and walk all over us and we can touch him everywhere, but he'll never come and lay on our lab.

I have 2 cats right now, but had 3 up until last Christmas. Kedi, who is at RB now, got protective of any kitten that was new to the house (first Wylie then Rudy).
When Wylie was a kitten, he mothered him all the time. Then when we brought Rudy home as a kitten, he switched it to him. He also sometimes got upset with Wylie if he thought that he was playing too hard with Rudy.
He would watch for a bit, then he would actually (sometimes) go over to Wylie and swat him and start grooming little Rudy.

It was cute

I have had a number of cats that make that rat-a-tat "Mah! Mah! Mah!" noise when they are hunting birds, mice, spiders, etc. It sounds like Cirrus is making those noises! I think it's just the excitement :)
