I was at petsmart today, and they(actually it was the shelter/rescue group that adopts out of petsmart, don't know the name of them) had a sign on all the adult cat cages, priced at $50 instead of the usual $65... I thought that was a good way to encourage people to adopt the adult cats:) :)
they sure had some cute kittens too...

I sure hope it works. Adult cats can be just as rewarding as kittens can be. And it is easier to tell what their personality will be, kteen's are still changing a lot.

Since my mom works at PetSmart and I go there almost everyday, those cats are *always* getting constant attention from me! :D

The RSPCA here in Australia does that, in fact it seems to be policy that adult cats are about twenty bucks cheaper than kittens. Pixel was just one week off being classed as an adult, so we paid a little extra for her but it was worth it :)

I agree with everyone. I got Cameo from Petsmart. She is three years old and I've had her about 5 months. I wanted an older cat because I wanted one that was already litter trained and kinda beyond the "kitten tearing up the house" phaze...not that a kitten wouldn't have been cute, but I think kittens make better pets for kids...and most adults that adopt cats want older ones because they are more "tame" than kittens...and they are good hunters of mice. My parents live in the mountains and they have a bad time with mice coming around from the streams. They are looking for an older cat right now. I think that from now on, whenever I adopt a cat, it will be older because I have had such good luck with Cameo.

Yes, we do that up here. There is a Petsmart store in Surrey that has a section called Luv-a-Pet and they allow rescue groups to come in for a two month stay and bring cats for adoption. It's been very successful.
