Look who returned.
http://www.jennykenwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/OrangieReturns1.jpg
I fed him some left over meat from my cats’ tea and give him some water outside.
A short time later I was talking to my neighbours at the front of the house, when Orangie came up to me. They told me how this is the local stray begging as always. I asked if they were sure he hadn’t got a home. They thought so.
I said goodbye, walked up to Orangie (who by now was across the road) picked him up and carried him home.

I have placed him in the spare room with a litter tray, fresh water & food bowl. I have used Milo introduction bowls. So if he has any illness, we can throw the bowls away, I don’t want my cats sick.
I am letting him get settled in, when I returned with food, he was crying at the window but as soon as he saw the food, he ran over and got tucked in.
So I suppose we better take him to the vets to get scanned and checked out.
And then decide what do with him ?
PS. What will PaysForIt think. I did tell him that I wanted to get Orangies’ eyes checked out if he returned. But not that he would be in the spare room.
PPS. I wash my hands in antibacterial soap, will this prevent my cats getting sick.
Also Orangie's tongue again was hanging out until he drank quite a bit of water, is that a sign of illness ?

I have checked out Orangie in the spare room but I couldn't find him for 5 minutes.
Then I remembered someones advice (from PT), that cats can hide in small spaces if scared.
I found him wedged between the sofa and wall in a space narrower than him, I pulled it out just far enough so he got actually lie down in comfort.
He had eaten all his food (second plate) and looked like he had walked over the litter (little footprints).
And when I stroked him, him being behind the sofa, he purred and purred.
He is very thin and he has new stratches from last time I saw him.

Awwww!!! Bless you for taking Orangie in. :)

I hope he's okay with it. :)

It should destroy the germs, if any, on your hands.
Also Orangie's tongue again was hanging out until he drank quite a bit of water, is that a sign of illness ?
Was he panting? He may of been very thirsty. Not sure if this is a sign of illness, but from your pictures, he looks healthy for a stray.
Good luck!
OMG... he's such a cutie-pie.
He doesn't look at all thin in the pictures!!!
Good luck with him!!

He's just like my O.J. I used to have. Don't be scared little one. Everything will be OK. He does look quite well fed in the pictures but I guess they can be misleading. Bless you for taking him in.

My partner thinks he's fairly well feed too.
Well he has agreed that we can take him to the vets to have him looked over but not to get too attached in the mean time. (As if)

Oh, I'm so glad you took him in!!!!
Be very careful about germs ... speaking from experience here... as you well know  . Some viruses can survive on your shoes, clothes, etc..... and be transported to your healthy cats!
The panting may have been just from thirst, but I would have him tested for Feline Leukemia .... as sometimes panting can be a sign of that.
GOOD LUCK, and keep us posted!

all kitties should have angels like you to watch over them. My Calvin often has his tongue sticking out...quite cute since he's all black w/that widdle pink tongue...so I don't think it's necessarily a sign of illness...just a genetic quirk I think. Good idea to have the vet give him a once over regardless so you know he's okay.

My Ash was a stray too, very healthy looking and not too thin, in fact the vet said he was in perfect health, so who knows , orangie still could be a stray, i do hope you can keep him, or find his owners if he turns out not to be a stray, hes lucky to have found you.

I sure hope I haven't stolen a cat !!
But my neighbour is the biggest gossip ever, if she *knows* the cat is a stray, it probually is.
Aparently a lady in the street has feed him before and there are plenty of cat flaps for him to nip in to get food.
PS. He isn't panting, he just had his tongue out. It has been a very hot day, we are hoping he was overheated, rather than anything more dangerous.

I'm so glad you took him in! He is such a beautiful cat, and he does look very healthy for a stray. He must've been very hungry, since he finished all that food that fast. and its also good that he's friendly with you and your other cats too.
Good luck! Keep us posted!:)

Well, we'll see what the vet says.

My partner (don't you dare get attached to that cat) has mentioned that he looks like a caramel.

We've just got back from the vets. "Caramel" has severe inflamation in the roof on his mouth and under his tongue. They've taken a bloodsample to test for viral infections but at the moment it's not looking good. :(
Even if he's free of disease he'll need to have all his teeth pulled and biopsies taken to check for cancer. Most likely followed by a lifetime of medication and discomfort. :(
Oh my! I just found this thread and was getting so happy for you and excited until I read this last post. What a heartbreaking thing for little orangie and you as well. I had so much hoped for a clean bill of health and the news that he was going to be an official family member. Please do keep us posted as to the results of his blood test. Maybe the vet just painted the "worst case scenario" and things are actually not quite that bleak. :( Fingers crossed here and two sets of kitty paws crossed too.
Oh no............ what bad news.... . This cat looks so healthy, it is almost unbelievable that he might be so sick...:(
Come on all Pettalkers, this orangie needs tons of strong prayers and good vibes, so ACTION PLEASE :) :)
Sweet Caramel, take whatever medicine your humans give you, and please please get better. This home is now your forever-home, so it's worth fighting for! Take care sweetie!!

Pays...I am so terribly sorry to hear of caramel's condition. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is also the right thing to do. It hurts so bad, and most of us have gone through it, but, you must think of Caramel's quality of life. Anything done with love is the best thing you can do.
Hugs to you both.
