View Full Version : Chewing!
Hi!
Prince has been chewing the latis on our deck, and also he has been getting into the food container. We even bungie-strapped it shut, and he figured out how to get it off... without chewing it, but he rips open the bag, and there is paper all over the yard. He also has been chewing our $50 trees!
Do you have any comments how to fix this?
P.S. He has also been doing A LOT of digging!

Is it possible to put the food bag behind a closed closet? Or another room?
With the deck, maybe you could spray some of that bitter apple stuff on it? Or watch him carefully and tell him to stop if you see him doing it?
Maybe you could put some fencing around your trees :)
With digging, you could lay down some chicken wire to cover your yard, it will hurt his paws if he digs, and the grass will also grow better.
Good luck! :)

The food solution is simple, put it in a place where he just can not reach it! lol
As far as the digging, what some people do, is give the dog their own little sand box, you should fill it with dirt or potting soil as often regular sand is not thrilling enough to really "dig" in for dogs.
Get one of those sandboxes you would buy for a child, fill it with that stuff, and encourage your dog to dig in there. You can hide treats in his box to motovate him to want to dig THERE instead of anywhere else in your yard.
If you catch him digging in the wrong place, just say no, and guide him back to his sand box.
Thanks so much guys! I will keep all of those ideas in mind, and try them! Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Great idea about the puppy sand box--I'll have to do that when we have our yard finished!! Fences around the trees should help, and hopefully bitter apple or something will deter him from chewing on the deck!! And just move the food--it may be inconvenient for you to have to reach up high in a closet or something to get it, but it's better than Prince eating paper and a 20lb bag of dog food:eek:
