To stop the whining..I covered kai's crate with a blanket everytime he whined. He learnt that whining only makes things worse. To make it more enjoyable, I suggest feeding your dog in there...and also giving it treats there too for a while. Just treat the crate like it's a home..not a jail.

Yeah, and make the crate comfortable. Mick likes his crate a lot more now that we got himm a comfy pillow. We also put a blanket on top. It makes it a bit darker in there and gets him more in the mood to sleep.
Try making him feel more secure in it. Feed him treats in there, or maybe even during the day, put him in, close the door but stay there with him. Or leave the door open and pet and praise him.. Give a command like "Go to bed" or something. I don't know if these will help any but I guess its worth a shot :p
My dog hates his crate Too, I cant get him to Use it at all, I put him in their and he Flips the crate around, I dont put him in it anymore From fear of him getting hurt.

I do have a blanket over the crate and he has his toys and a bed in there. I was thinking maybe if I put all his toys and a treat in it then close the door so he can't get in he'll want to go in it.? do you think this mite work??

One question ----- WHAT is the purpose of using a crate? Right now, I can't find any good reason to lock a dog up... ??? Don't get mad - just asking! Thanks.

JGuitaristR - Well, the reason we use a crate is so Mickey stays out of trouble when we're away. For his safety as well. (However, when he is left alone for a long time he gets confined to the kitchen.) He's been using one since he got here and he loves it. We don't make him use it for anything else except to sleep and then he doesn't even care if he's locked up or not. He just sees it as his little bedroom. I used to see it in a bad way as well but then I realized it's not so bad. He likes it. If he didn't, I wouldn't make him use it so much.
What I think is cruel is like what someone I knew (ex-friend, I just hate her now  ) did to her dog. It spent all day in its cage locked up in the garage. Everyone either went to school or work all day. Then when they let her out, she went crazy cause it needed excercise and they yelled at her for it. So silly. Now that's poor use of something that is really not so bad after all.
Just my opinion

Okay, thank you. :) I, by no means, meant to offend you, or anyone else. I just didn't see any reason to do that, but now, thanks to you, I totally understand and agree with it. Agree with you, of course and not your evil ex-friend. That's bull what she did.
I bet Mickey's a happy little boy. ;) :D
