My mom babysits children for a living. But the kids she is babysitting for now won't need to be looked after in the summer. So my mom has put out ads, called people etc.

She got her first interview on the phone a while back. Questions were asked like, "Do you have first aid training?" Yes..."Do you have a fenced yard?" Yes..."Have you had children?" Yes..."Do you have a large dog?" Yes..."Does is carry pit bull or rottwieller?" Ahem..Excuse me?!

If Timber carried pit bull or rotwieller my mom would have been out of a job..Isn't that stupid?! I can see someone not wanting their child with a LARGE dog, but why just these breeds?! I'm surprised the person didn't say no husky cuz it's half wolf or something stupid..

Luckily Timber has golden retriever in her, maybe that will get us somewhere

Because the media highly publicizes any case involving those breeds. Those breeds are "hot-button" names. Pit bulls are also often used in dog fights, sadly, and both breeds are used as "scary dogs" in movies and television.

All responsible dog owners, especially of those breeds, should make every effort to bring their dogs to public places and let people see how sweet and freindly they can be.

Try working for the state of Missouri with one! We run a group home for the mentally handicapped. Mom went to a meeting a couple months back and she was pulled aside by the big boss type lady and ask if our residents were in danger with 2 big dogs in the house especially a pit bull!

Ok if she would have stopped at the 2 big dogs comment I would have been fine because I could see her point. Our residents are senior citizens who, I hate to say, are pretty clumsy. So yes I could see her concern about the dogs being under the residents’ feet and maybe tripping them. I can't understand what the breed has to do with anything.

What really ticked me off was when she came over talking about how she's bred Dobies since the 70's. Ummm aren't our dogs in the same "dangerous dogs" boat? Shouldn't you try and help these "dangerous dogs" get a better rep instead of hindering them even further
