i always smile when i see my different-colored eye friends, as i also have two different-colored eyes....i had never heard about the deaf part though.....i just thought we were always just more interesting....smile...i wonder, did her litter sister have two different-colored eyes also? you are a real beauty....congrats on being cotd!!!

It's my understanding that if a solid white cat has blue eyes, she is deaf. If the eyes are two different colors then she is deaf in the ear on the "blue" side.

My very first cat named Sugar, was a Turkish Angora with blue eyes. I had never heard that blue-eyed cats might be deaf. The vet told me Sugar was probably deaf. I turned around and called Sugar's name and his head swiveled immediately to answer me. So much for that idea! Thank God. Sugar lived to be 18 years old.

Bernice, your eyes are so beautiful, but one glance at your beautiful coat reminded me so much of Sugar.

Thank heavens you were rescued just in time and now have a chance to have a loving home for a long time.

We think you are beautiful.
Tell your tin-openers/cuddlepersons that if they want to research your (obviously) aristocratic ancestry then they must look up Turkish Van cats on the web. They usually have the same lovely eye colouring as yourself. Tell them to forget all that nonsense about hearing difficulties because Van cats have a brilliant attribute in that they are not afraid of water but often enjoy a swim. Not that we would suggest you race to the bathroom or the pool this instant to show off,we are sure that you are not that kind of girl....and if you were here in England then you would not be going anywhere near water as it is just too cold today.

What a beauty you are! It's nice to meet an 'almost neighbor'. I live in a town 90 miles south of Kansas City but on the Kansas side. I'm so glad you found a wonderful forever home. I hope your sister did too. Congratulations, sweetie, on being our special Cat of the Day.:D

Bernice is a Turkish Van. They are all fluffy white and have one green and one blue eye. They are quite rare outside of Van. I met one in Selkirk, Turkey, and the owner was very proud of his kitty.

I don't believe his had any hearing problems.

I'm so glad Bernice that you were rescued when you were. Heaven knows how long you and your sister could have survived in that ditch at such a young age. Oh I shudder just thinking about it.
Now you look the picture of health. I just love your pure white coat and those odd colored eyes.
Also it is solid white cats with blue eyes that are usually born deaf. It's having odd colored eyes, or blue eyes but with markings on their coat that saves them from being deaf.
