There is a wonderful dog that is available for adoption at the Lancaster Shelter (suburb of Buffalo, NY). I would love to adopt her myself, but I am still in the process of closing on my house and won't be able to adopt for about a month. If anyone in the area is looking for a great family dog - she could be the one.

Katie
Dog
Labrador Retriever,German Shepherd Dog Mix
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Sex: Female
I.D:
Notes: Katie is looking for that special home. She needs a home that is caring and loving. Katie came to the shelter very terrified and stayed in back of her cage hiding her face and shaking for days. As frightened as she was she never displayed any fear aggression. Katie is feeling more comfortable and accepting the TLC that she is being given by the dog control officer and volunteer. She is medium size. If you are someone who wants to make a difference and turn around the luck of one unfortunate dog, please consider Katie. She is a gem! We are very fond of her.

Katie looks soooo much like Smokey. Even down to the white
patch of fur on the neck/chest area. Amazing to me how much
they look alike. She IS adorable & I hope she finds a Great
forever home soon. Good Luck sweet girl Katie.:)

I came back for another look at Katie.:D

Just can't get over how much this girl looks like Smokey.
I would swear it was his picture. Is she being fostered?
Does anyone know if she'll be o.k. where she is for awhile,
I mean, no time limit on her stay where she is? I wish this
little sweetheart the very best of forever homes.:) :)

Liz, this is the second time I've been here today too. I don't know whether it is her bio or how she looks directly at us, but I just have a feeling this is one special dog. Please let her find one special person to love her.

I have emailed the Lancaster Shelter to get an update on her status. I have also informed them that I would be interested in adopting Katie if she is still looking for a home when I return from California. I don't really know anything about this shelter and want to make sure she is not in any danger of being PTS. If I have to, I will get her in foster care until I get back and get closed on my house. If everyone can send good vibes to Katie - for some reason her plight has really touched my heart.

Thanks to all

Clara4457,

Could you contact them please? That would be wonderful. :)

Whenever I look at that sweet face ,with head tilted to one
side, she seems to be saying "Are you the one , the one to
love me"? She is a special pup, I just know it. Please, if there
is anyway I can help with a small donation to a good foster
person to keep her safe till you return,I'd feel privileged to
help. Hang in there Katie girl.:) I hope the Shelter will be o.k.
with the fostering idea if they cannot keep her with them for
awhile longer. If you hear anymore, please let us know. Thank
you so much.

lizbud - that is sooo sweet of you to offer. I am just sitting and waiting to hear back. The problem is the time frame. I have to work tomorrow and then I leave on Sunday. I'll let everyone know what happens. :) Wish me luck!!!

Heard back from the Lancaster Shelter volunteer. Although they will not hold her for me - they feel pretty confident that she will still be available when I return from California. She is in no danger of being PTS thank god - so when I return I will call and see if she is still unadopted. If she is still there - I will make an appointment to go see her and hopefully it will all work out. If she has been adopted - then I will go to the Buffalo Animal Shelter and see what they have.

Either way - I am going to be a playmate for myself and Leo!!! :D :D

Thanks - I'll be in California 2 weeks on business - I come back May 8th. I'm going to have my friend who volunteers at the shelter keep an eye out for her. Thanks again for everyone's support!!! :D

That is just wonderful. Kind of strange to be saying this, but I hope that Katie doesn't get adopted. It seems like you and she were meant for each other.

Thanks - I think so to. My Leo was also a very shy dog when I got him - so I am very experienced with building confidence with dogs and the dynamics of adopting a shy dog. My household is a very quiet one (just myself and my 26yr old son - who is very conservative) and tends to be ideal for dogs that need special handling. I'm going to keep in touch with Cheryl at the Lancaster Shelter - and I'll let everyone know what happens.

Again - thanks for everyones good thoughts and support!! :)

Clara4457,

Just wanted to post a pic of my Smokey to compare with
Katie's. It's not the best to compare, so I'll look around for
another, but I hope you can see a similarity. Liz.

Katie got adopted by a family while I was in California and although I am a little disappointed :( - I am sure she will have a wonderful life. From what I understand the family that adopted her are very loving people.

I'm sorry Katie wasn't the dog meant for you. Glad to hear she got a wonderful home and I'm sure the perfect addition for you is out there :)
