Well it looks like Perrie is a male. We caught him umm.... with Speedy.
I never expected this! Now we have to separate them, and Perrie gets the small cage we used for a temp. before the big one arrived. :(
I felt so bad taking them away from each other. Perrie keeps trying to climb out. Poor baby.:(
I hope that Speedy's not pregnant. Don't hamsters eat their babies? :( This is awful.

Britt, dont worry if Speedy IS pregnant than she wont eat her babies unless she is disturbed.. if she is pregnant let us know later when you know. but usually only the male will eat the babies. :( well, hope i was of some use:rolleyes:

You know, sometimes female hamsters do umm, that with other females....It's a dominance thing. :p
But hamsters will only eat their babies if they are disturbed to much, or they don't have enough food or water, or they babies have been touched too soon etc.
Tikeyas_mom can probably say more, she used to breed hamsters, and as far as I know, she hasn't had any problems :

OK thanks for the advice everyone...I think I remember reading somewhere that they ate their babies...but I think it was Syrian hamsters.
Speedy has been eating a lot, but she is sooo small, Perrie is like twice the size of her. Plus, she has been eating a lot since we got her. Maybe she's still a little worried or scared.
On the bright side, I wanted a male to begin with...and now I got one. I'll still keep the name Perrie though. :)
