i am curious about this behaviour of lexies, it not a major problem or anything, but if there is a towel left lying around she tends to want to pee on it, she has peed on my towel once, when i left the washing in the basket downstairs, she always uses her litter box no problem, but last night i had a towel on the floor because our dishwasher flooded, and yes u guessed it she was just about to pee on it when i managed to c her in time an put her in her litter box, i have a thought, i notice the cats league where i got her advertise on their site for old towels, so i gather they use them for bedding, do you think she may have peed on it in there, so associates it with , hey this is ok, i wonder, i just have to make sure there are no towels left lying around lol, otherwise she is great, no problems using her litter box at all.

Ya know, I've never had mine pee on towels, but I had to stop using bath mats because they seemed to LOVE peeing on that. You know, the kind with the rubber backing? Weird.

We have a cat that will do that also! I would love to know the reason why!

Wish I would know why they are doing that, I'm also having severe peeing problems with Luna now (as described in http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24170.
Maybe some cats just love the feeling to pee on textiles... :(

Deirdre will pee on a towel if it is on the floor...or on a chair...or the bed....or anywhere but on the towel rack. Every once in a while she will pee on my clothes if they are on the floor too.

hmm well i am glad im not alone here, yes its unusual , never had a cat to that before, especially when they are so good at using the litter box, and she is well as can be, oh well i know what not to do, have to be a tidier kiwi and put those towels away in the linen cupboard not in the basket overnite. cheers everyone

I think it has something to do with whatever they were born on - Bastet was born on newspaper and you guessed it - no newspaper in the house for her to pee on. If she had the chance she would also pee in the bathroom but knows not to do that anymore for fear of the evil spray bottle monster!
Bastet's mum decided that the bathroom tiles on a pile of newspaper (that was going to be used for wrapping up the broken tiles when they came off the walls) was an excellent birthing place. Her previous litter was born in a potplant holder (go figure).
This is just a theory mind you but so far it seems to ring true for pee habits of cats (that I know of anyway).
