It was all my fault :( I forgot to put the lock on Frisco's cage, and he got out. :( I only left the room for a mintue, and when I came back, the rats were fighting. Frisco bit off Icarus's toe!! :( I felt so bad, I couldn't stop crying. My poor baby :( His toe is just hanging there. I put some hydrogen peroxide on it, and I tried to get some polysporin on, but he wouldn't let me :( I cleaned his cage to get rid of the bacteria, but now I'm not sure what else to do...
Has anyone's baby suffered a severed limb? I'm not sure what to do...He's been cleaning it like crazy...I'm sure that it will come off by itself...:(

LOL Sorry to laugh but I hear this ALL the time. It's amazing how many rats lose toes, ears, tail tips etc. You should take him to the vet and have the doc look at it, as there is a chance of infection. Can you try to wrap it at all? If it's hanging it's probably very painful for him and he should be seen by a vet. He will also probably need antibiotics as well. Please take him to the vet! I hope he feels better soon. Poor ratty. :(

This has happened to me & a lot of others & it ussually becomes infected. I'd get him to the vet. Antibiotics are most likely needed. If possible keep him seperated from the others until it heals & do not use shavings, use paper towel & keep the cage very clean. Wrap it if possible. Keep us posted! Good luck!

Poor Icarus! Fortunately this isn't all that uncommon and everything should work out well. Pretend you are obsessive compulsive with cage cleaning until it's all healed!

Phew, I was afraid that people might be upset with me for being so irresponsible :o
I'm glad to know that it happens alot and isn't too serious :)
My mom doesn't want me to take him to a vet until I call one just to make sure of what it would cost for medicine, because she doesn't have very much money right now :( But I will call and hopefully they will maybe give me something to take away some of the pain and to help it heal. I haven't checked to see if it's fallen off yet, as I want to let him sleep to encourage the healing process :) Lot's of rest for my baby!
And yes, I'm going to be a hyper-maniac, cleaning out the cage lol. I probably will only need to clean the litter box, but I will go crazy anyway lol.
I don't think corn cob is the best for keeping away from bacteria, but he always has tons of toilet paper in there, and he usually just sleeps while I'm gone, so I hope he doesn't move around too much...
I felt so bad, it was all my fault, so thanks for being understanding everyone! :)

We use a lot of Neosporin + Pain Relief on the animals at work and it seems to work pretty well.
Don't feel too badly about it, I almost had a very similar thing happen when of my little baby ratties climbed up on the outside of the cage and ZYlle mistook it for food. >.<
