A good friend just bought a house with her mom (no small feat in the Bay Area) and is looking to add a dog to their family!
She'd like a short haired, small/medium size dog 15-25 pounds with the temperment of a lab. Anyone have a breed to reccomend?
She'll most likely get one from a rescue/humane society, so it will probably be mixed.

I'm glad she'll be checking out the rescue shelters! Maybe she should see what kind of dogs will be there. Maybe she will find a Lab mix that is small. Good luck! :)

How about a corgi?

Yes, Corgi is a good idea! The couple I've known have been very sweet!
There's even a cutie in a local rescue!

Yeah...I don't know about them, but Doxie's are small and short-haired. I love Corgi's...they may be a good breed. :D

He's rather big but sounds very well behaved.
Jake
Dog
Labrador Retriever,Whippet Mix
Size: Medium
Age: Baby
Sex: Male

Notes: Jake is very sweet puppy, big too, for only 6 mos. He is housebroken, will walk next to you without a leash, use to being on a ranch with horses and staying with the rancher as he moved around his property. He likes other dogs, cats and people. Loves kids, good with other dogs and would be a great Family Pet. No toddlers please as he is still a puppy and excitable, would knock them over. He is good on the leash, in the car and all around nice dog. Loves women, especially, if you are active and have a nice big back yard for him, he would be a great companion dog too. Very nice dog...and has some training already...

I think that your friend should definitely check out the shelters and rescues--you never know who you may stumble upon there!!!
As for breed recommendations, I agree with beagle, also a shiba inu is a good breed--very well behaved (with an attitude problem, lol), but the hair is a bit on the long side. Or maybe a sheltie, or poodle, or basset hound.

I think a beagle. They are short haired, small and they are not that hard to train.

Or maybe a sheltie
Sheltie's would be great if it weren't for that mop of hair! ;)
