View Full Version : More Fosters
I picked up three 2 week old boys today. Their mom was hit and killed by a car :( :( :(
Here's just a couple pics. I'm sooo tired so I'll post more tomorrow. I'm still trying to think of names. The lightest colored one is the smallest and the other two like to beat him up. The darkest colored one is slightly bigger than the others and he is the main bully. The one in the middle of the colors is the softest and fuzziest.
Here's the lightest colored one (small one who gets picked on):

So sad about the momma cat. :( I'm glad you are able to help give them a better life. :)
Ok Amy, I gave in!! Their names are Alvin, Simon, and Theodore :D I am calling them Al, Simon, and Teddy but when they go to the shelter, we'll probably list their full names.
The weird thing is they DO look like chipmunks and they have the exact personalities of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore!!!

They can't be the same kittens as these can they? http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24569
Scroll down and you will find an attachment pic. Their mother died because of a car too, and they are the same colors/size/amount. Whata coincidence! Weird. Very cute kitties though and thanks for rescuing them!
ALVIN The trouble maker. He's the loudest and the biggest. He always wants to be fed first. He loves to bite Teddy and Simon's heads and push them around. (AAAAACCCCKKKK, I just noticed that spot above his eye. OH NO!!!! PLEASE don't let it be ringworm!)

SIMON The small guy. He refused to eat the first day I had them, but now I have him eating more than the other two piggies :D

THEODORE The sweetie. Oh I try not to pick favorites but this is the guy I would keep if I could. I stick him under my neck and he just purrs away. Here he is with a milk mustache!

The three little ones in the other thread were two weeks old yeasterday. There are two boys and one girl. The one with the most white is the girl. Your guys also seem to be a lot darker.

They're so sweet, Theodore and his little milk moustache are so adorable!
I'm freaking out now. My 3 boys went to another foster home because two kittens were found motherless today. They are only a couple days old. I took them because no one else felt comfortable with them so young. I am having a difficult time getting them to eat. I was just looking up some info to see how much they should be eating for their weight and I read some things that have me scared to death. I was fine until I read this!!
Caring for an orphaned kitten can be difficult and even the most conscientious foster parent may lose a little one. If a kitten dies, the substitute parent should not blame himself or herself.
The younger the kitten, the more fragile it is. Very young kittens may not survive without a mother no matter how good the care.
Please say prayers that they make it through the night so I can get them to the vet in the morning for fluids or whatever they might need.
I am so tired and upset. I haven't been sleeping much for 2 weeks because of the other fosters I have. :(

Aly, prayers are on the way for the kittens and for you. Please try to get some sleep and try to relax too. All fingers and paws are crossed here.

Prayers are on the way.
Do you mean the three little orange guys are no longer with you? If so will you still be able to get updates on them?
Yeah the orange boys went to the President of the Board's house. I can call her or go over there whenever I want.
So far so good on the new two. They've been screaming almost nonstop all night. At least that means they're strong. I've been getting up every hour and a half trying to get them to eat. I just get very small amounts into them at a time.
I'm calling the vet when I wake up again in an hour to see if I can get them fluids.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TIRED.
(Lolly's really worried since she's been hearing crying all night. She perches at the edge of the bed and stares at their crate and I can't get her to come sleep in her normal spot next to me)

Oh, Aly, I wish I were closer to you and I would help! I am a terrible sleeper, most of the time, and am up at all hours. I would be a good kitten foster mom, but only if I didn't have all these other dogs and cats!
Hang in there. I know if those babies have a chance, it is because of the wonderful care you are providing.
Logan
The vet I saw probably knew less about babies than I do  I was not comfortable with him at all and got out of there as fast as I could. He was actually trying to shove a large thermometer up ... you know where! IN TWO DAY OLD KITTENS!!!  I told him NOT to do that and took the kitten out of his hands
He told me they are diseased and the mom rejected them so I might want to think about euthanasia. Well...... NO! I know its a possibility that happened, but he doesn't know that for sure. If these babies have any chance at all, I am going to make sure they get it!
They're still acting strong. They're crying and climbing on their "mama" (a stuffed dog, hehe). I have them set up with a heating pad and they are eating a little better. They will be going to a GOOD vet tomorrow. I don't think they'll need fluids though.

Wow, Oh Aly! Bless You!!! Thank you for giving these kitties a chance! Sending good vibes your way, and hoping you'll be able to catch a cat-nap or two!! :)
The little ones are still doing great. They are eating better and spend most of the time curled up on their heating pad. I think they are both boys and they might be Siamese mixes but its too early to tell yet. They look a lot like Tonkinese but I doubt thats what they are. They're so tiny, its impossible to tell. I haven't named them yet because I'm still scared to get too attached to them if they don't make it.
Lily is doing GRREEEEAAAATTT!!!! She's getting so big. She's an angel kitten. I am trying to convince my mom she needs a cat because I don't think I will be able to put Lily up for adoption. I'm SO bonded to her.

what good news!!
I'm praying hard for you guys! I am glad they are feeling happy with their momma (dog)!! Sweet little babies....
I am shocked that vet admitted that he may know less than you about them ..... AND THEN tried to take their temp with that big thermometer!?!?? I wonder what garage he got his degree from??!?!
Keep up the good work .... I am sure those little babies are gonna do just fine!

Gosh! You are so lucky! I wouldn't be able to give them away though. You really are a great person.
Just a little update that the boy is doing really good. He took some formula from a bottle today for the first time (I had been using a syringe). He's going potty really well and he's very strong and squirmy. I still feel sick to my stomach with worry, but once we get past a few more days I think I'll feel better.
Then of course I have to worry about the Felv test when he's older :( But I'm trying to take this one day at a time for now.
I'm thinking of a good strong male name .. something like Hercules :) Or Fabio! Any suggestions?

I'm so glad that he's doing so well. :) You could name him Rocky because he had a rocky start in life and Rocky is the boxer that Sylvester Stallone portrayed in the movies.
My boy is doing so good :D He's eating more and more and he's soooooo strong. I can barely hold him still to feed him because he climbs all over me! He's been pottying a lot on his own and getting himself really dirty - typical male  :D :p I stimulate him after every feeding and he goes, but then he'll also go in his crate.
I'm being extremely careful about germs. I wash my hands so many times a day that they are starting to get dry. I know his immune system might be compromised since he didn't spend enough time with his mom. I hope I can keep him healthy!

That's such wonderful news Ali!!!! Great job!!! Now we need pics of this little boy!!!!:D
I'll be sure to take some pics at the next feeding time. I went out and bought him a little bunny today thats closer to his size. The stuffed dog I had in there was a little too big and was making him get off the heating pad too much so I took it out yesterday or the day before. He grabs on to the rabbit as he falls asleep and it makes me cry because thats what he did with his brother :( :( :( When his brother was sick, he'd lay his whole body on top of him :( Ugh.
He's still doing great. He's been crying a lot today but I think its because he's growing some and wanting to eat more. Also probably still missing his brother and mama :( He likes it when I take him out and hold him against my cheek though. He'll stop crying and he's got some sort of purring thing going on. I can't tell if he's purring or grunting, hehe.
I wish I knew exactly why his brother died. I hope it wasn't a sickness. I hope it was because he was just too weak or something that I couldn't have helped. If it was a sickness, I'm still scared to death this boy will come down with it. I've been washing his blankets constantly and I sterilize the bottles and syringes a few times a day. Do you guys think he would have gotten it by now if he was going to? I know its hard to say for sure. I'm just worrying.

I don't know Aly .... wish I did ... but I do know he is lucky to have you!!! It made me teary eyed picturing him cuddling that bunny too! :( But I know he loves being held up close to your face and having you talk softly to him. My kittens all love that too!!! It is so amazing how even as tiny as they are, they look me in the eyes and hang on my every word! Such precious blessings!
It sounds like this little guy is a fighter, and I feel he will pull through just fine! Hang in there... you're doing great by him!;)
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I was watching Animal Planet just now and a Siamese cat was having kittens. One of her babies looks EXACTLY like my boy... facial structure and everything. I had to go check and make sure my boy was still here and didn't somehow get on television :D I can't wait to find out if he really is Siamese or not.
I have some new pics and video of my baby. I'll post them after I feed Lily.
I'm still trying to take good pics. Its VERY hard because he's so squirmy :) Here he is with his new easter bunny:

Good to hear about your little meezer boy. It sounds as if he'd make it. Getting stronger and wanting more food are good signs. I had to smile when I heard about the grunt-purring. Filou can do that too, sounds so sweet

They are both so sweet, so precious. How will you ever be able to part with them. If you don't keep them i know you will find a good home. I'm so tempted...Maya and her cattitude be damned!!!! I see that "little boy" has what looks like a darker tip to his tail...he must be a meezer...with the loud yells and all. You are truly special to foster these kiitens. without your intervention...they would not be.

Awww this little boy: how itsy bitsy sweet he is. I once had a cat called Samson, he was grey like a Russian Blue (but was a normal domestic).
And Lily: such a grown up girl now. I am sure they are happy to have you:)
I'm thinking about naming him Sterling or Sebastian. I like Sebastian for him but almost everyone else likes Sterling. Sir Poops a Lot fits him better than any name though :D :D :D He's still doing great. He loves his bunny and is always curled up on it. I'm switching him from the syringe to the bottle slowly and he's doing really good on the bottle now. Strong little devil he is!
Lily is now pottying on her own and I've introduced some 'mush' to her (KMR mixed with canned kitten food). She's not interested in it yet but I'm letting her play in it right now (BIG MESS). My hands look like hamburger meat from when I feed her the bottle and she kneads on me.
My little boy is growing SO fast! I still don't have a name for him yet. Nothing seems to fit him.
Last night when I got him out to feed him, his eyes were still closed. I fed him and then held him up to my face to talk to him like I usually do. After a few minutes of talking, I looked at him and his eyes started to open right before me!! I was SOOOO excited! I've always missed this with my other babies (their eyes are closed then the next time I go to get them out, their eyes are open) but my boy opened his eyes a little bit and was looking at me through little slits. That was just such a magical moment. And also when I went to get him this morning, he had lost his umbilical cord!!!! I am so proud and happy and glad that he's doing so good. :D
