When I use to take my trash to the dump, I found out the saddest thing. Someone had dropped a box of kittens down there, meanwhile, It was in the middle of the 26 inch snow storm in North Carolina. After I found out of the cats, I took cans of cat food everytime I went to the dump. A nice man named Bill who worked there also fed the cats. He was really the only person the liked the cats there. I loved to pet the cats each time I went. Soon after a month or two of these dump visits to the dump, I decided I wanted one of those cats. All the college students studying to be a vetrenarian had gave the cats shots already. Unfornuatley, to tell which ones they gave shots to, They had to clip one of there ears off. :( I just needed this little black one there, she was so adorable. I could only get one, (if i could have gotten them all I would have) and the black one was the one i picked. So i took her home. At first she was very shy and never came out of under the bed, but after a couple of weeks she came out and started to warm up to my other cat Tigger (who wasnt very fond of her) and then eventually became friendly to us. By then Bill had died and the other dump workers had put the reast of the cats to sleep (very sad) so we named our cat Lucky. Today she is very friendly and loves to just come right up to you and give you a lick. She is very beautiful even with the clipped ear. Well anyways, this is getting long so Ill stop for now.

First let me welcome you to Pet Talk ewgirl401 and secondly, what a sad but heartwarming story. It's too bad you couldn't save all the kitties :( but at least you did your best and was able to give one of them a good home. :)

ewgirl401,

Don't panic. I've worked in rescue for over 6 years. They do not clip the ear OFF. They simply put a "notch" in it so they can determine which cat was vaccinated and spayed/neutered. They do it when the cat is under anesthesia, so they don't feel it.

Welcome to PT ewgirl401! What a sad story about the other kitties, but at least you were able to save one of them. And I'm so glad she has warmed up to you so nicely.

Hope you like it here as much as we all do! :) :D :)

Oh. I've never heard of that before. Why did they remove the ear when all they had to do was put a "notch" in it???
