For those of you who have not seen the other thread about me fostering my first cat, Let me say that I will be fostering a cat (with babies) for a local shelter. I do not have her yet as she ended up giving birth at the same time as her vet's visit to check for FeLV/FIV. I should be getting her soon. She did test negative. :D
Here is Freddie Freckles and crew of 5:

Jen,

OMG!! That brings back so many memories! I just have one question...she's in a cage. I thought the rescue organization says she goes crazy in a cage. Not that it's not a GOOD thing, mind you. I was just curious. It's actually a better place for her and her babies. You might want to think about it.

Congratulations!!

Jen I posted on the other thread too but I just wanted to say congratulations to Momma here as well. I thought she had given birth in your home. I should have figured you would have mentioned it if you had played OB-GYN for this little lady. :D

I noticed. Maybe they meant a carrier. I really don't have ALL the info, it was mostly e-mail contacts. The e-mail that stated "I think she really needs a room because she doesn't like the cage" was the first one I received. Maybe she was just more nervous as a newly caught cat. If they send a cage that will be great, but this particular room that I have in mind for using, I THINK will be good. It is on the smaller size and not any place that she can really hide the kittes out of sight. (no under the bed or dresser, type of thing).

Dear Jen, Congratulations to you on your first foster kitty and family of little feline beauties!!! You are SO lucky and I have a serious case of "baby kitty envy"!!! I hope that your busy schedule will allow you to keep us updated on the darling kitties and the MOM, too. This is something that really interests me and I would very much like to know how fostering actually works, what is required on a daily basis, etc. You are a wonderful person to take this on, in view of the fact that you already have a multitude of your own cats to care for. WOW ! That is just great of you. Hoping to hear about your experience when time permits....regards from Deborah in Montreal. :) :o  and way too

Aww they are soooo adorable. Congratulations Jen on your first foster and the big question is, " I wonder how many little kitties Jen will be tempted to want to keep?" LOL

Looks like the vet doesn't want the babies moved for at least 2 weeks. I am in tears. I was so looking forward to this.:( Well, there will alays be another on. :( Am I silly to be this upset? :o

No, you are not silly to be this upset. I would be as well. Why can't they be moved for two weeks? Are you going to be taking care of them after the two weeks are up?

I can totally understand your disappointment. :( I imagine the vet must have a reason for thinking like this although I can't think at the moment what that might be. Was Mamma Kitty's labor/delivery difficult? Have all of the kitties been given a clean bill of health?

Everything went perfectly fine. They are healthy, mom is healthy and happy.....they are just hypochondriacs around here. I do not know if they will come here now or not. I am sure they will let me know if they need me again, but I am just going to wait it out. No use being a pest, especially when I am so depressed now.

Jen,

Good things come to those who wait :D

Oh Jen, I'm so sorry it's not working out like you were hoping. There must be some reason - it's probably that the kittens are adorable and they don't want to part with them themselves, which is kinda mean since everything was worked out for you to take them.

But, like Moosmom says, good things come to those who wait, and you will either be in heaven in two weeks when they do come to you, or now that you've decided you're going to do this, there will be another momma out there needing a good safe place to have her babies and she will be thrilled that you are available.

Try not to be depressed, all things work out for the best, even though you can't see it right away. Chin up, girl! :) :)

I don't understand that either. They are safe and cozy in that carrier... just close it up ... cover it from the weather, and take them to JENS!!!! Geez, I took in the momma and newborns from Lacie the morning after they were born ... less than 24 hours!!!!

I'm so sorry Jen! I don't see any reason why they shouldn't want to move them for 2 weeks.
I was soo happy for you too!
Head up though! I'm sure there's another mom to be around the corner who will be thrilled that you will take her in and love her through her birthing time and beyond. I just know it!

I'll be optimistic and echo Moosmom's statement. :)

Sorry you couldn't get them right away, though. :(

After I had my good cry. (I was anxious, you know) I realized that this DID happen for a reason, we just don't know what it is yet. In my past, whenever it seemed like all the obsticals were in my way and nothing was turning out MY way, I found out in time that I was needed "down the road" and I just needed to wait for it to come to me. I'll keep you posted.

I've fostered litters who were moved when they were less than a week old (one was less than 24 hours.) I think the vet staff is having kitten lust!;) :p

Here's one for the books. Mommy cat just gave birth to #6!!! another orangie !

I still do not know if she will be staying with me after this so-called 2 weeks. I am begining to think these people do not want my help. Well, if that its true, it is too bad for them. There are many organizations in this area that would cherish a place to foster cats/kittens, and now that I have made my mind up to do this, I will!

Yesterday I saw two mamma cats with one-day-old litters. One had 5 babies and the other had 6! They were sooo tiny.

Jen,

I am on the verge of getting my first two foster Meezers tomorrow!
Sadly, I had to turn down the opportunity of having a pregnant Mama at my house, because of my lack of experience. Don't worry, Mama will be OK.

If you want to help with fostering with some serious folks try: siameserescue.org

They really place these babies in wonderful homes.

I'll let you all know how my experience goes in future threads, if anyone is interested.

BTW,

Jen, I noticed a foster by the name of Karen Luckenbach, anyone you know?

Good luck and cheer up! A person with a heart as big as yours is in great demand.;)

I know Jen you are upset about not being able to raise these kittens. It is so difficult when you are sooo looking forward to something and it can't happen.

What was the background on the mother cat? Many years ago the vet we were using was brought a kitten whom was attacked by the mother cat because the kids were playing with the litter. It was a semi-feral barn cat and the scent of the children on the kittens freaked the momma out. She killed all but the one and that kitten was severly mangled. She survived to be a happy cat for many years however. I just thought that this could be a reason for the shelter and the vet being overly cautious?

Aww! I'm sorry Jen....a kitty mommy and her kittens would be very lucky to have you. I'm sorry this one didn't work out.

I'm just seeing this thread now! Sorry that you have gone through such a roller coaster of emotions. As everyone said, there will be another mother needing attention, even if this one doesn't work out!

Chin up!

Jen I also missed this thread. Sorry that they didn't come. I admire you -all that work with your fur family and now you want to foster another cat family. Kittens are lots of fun but a lot of work too. I remember 25 years ago, my first cat Grisette had babies (we then had the idea she should have babies one time -now I know better but it was a wonder to see her giving birth and having the babies until we found them good homes) and I found 4 kittens of about 6 weeks dumped in the wood:mad: -so I had double kitten fun:rolleyes: :)

I hope it works out for you soon.

The babies are a week old and opening their eyes. (I have not seen them, this is an e-mail update). This little family (or possibly a different mom to be) is still to tranfer to me in another week. (I just found this out for certain). But I may get a different cat because there seems to be a home with 4, 1 year old PREGNANT females in need of help. (It's no wonder). So sooner or later my foster career will begin. YEAH!

Oh my, Jen!!! You may end up with several litters, just like me!!! Better set up another box just in case!!! ;)
