I took Lucy outside yesterday for a photo session now that he is fully awake from his hybernation and can enjoy the sunshine. Enjoy! :D

What a cutie! I am getting a russian tortoise tonight! What breed is Lucy?
This will be my first tortoise and I am getting it (not sure yet if it is a boy or girl) from a non-pet experienced person (that is one of the reasons she is giving it up) so I am trying to learn as much as possible about them. I used to have a few turtles but never a land reptile. Do you have any pointers or tips for me? I think it will be an indoors tortise as that is how it has lived so far plus I am in upstate ny so it gets cold here in the winter. I am sure we will go out in the summer for excersize sessions.

Just curious but do you have a permit through the Fish and Wildlife service for these tortoises? They are endangered species, and protected by law.

I have wandered over! He's gorgeous! Gotta love it when they come out of hibernation, when my snake does it's like Christmas, I'm sooo happy to see her again!

Yes, I have a permit, We got frankie at the tortoise rescue so he was licensed and we got the pemit for him when we got him. As for the babies, we sent in paperwork for them, they sent us a certificate saying this is your permit, and they sent us tags to stick on them, that says Fish and Game Wildlife Rescue. Sorry this was so long :)

Just curious but where did you rescue yours? I got mine from the Joshua Tree Tortoise Rescue when Ilived in 29 Palms. :D
