Every now and then I visit the site of the shelter where we got my Ripley. Today my heart melted as I clicked on Jake's picture. I think you will agree he is precious and would make a wonderful companion for anybody. He is a senior guy, and I can't for the life of me imagine who would surrender a senior pup and place him in a shelter. Anyway, folks in NJ please take a look at Jake. It says "Urgent."

Jake's sad face just broke my heart :(
He is very cute though! I hope he finds a forever home soon. I too can't understand why anyone would give up their companion on 10 years like that!! Makes me sooooo mad

Oh Pam,
I cannot stand when people put their senior dogs in shelters....
I mean you've had them that long????
Did you see the 9 yr.old airedale/terrier cross?!?!?!?!?!?
And The Great Dane????

How can they do that! Just like poor Isis in my post on the new GSD rescue.

He is precious. I cried when I looked at his cute face in those bunny ears. I am heartbroken. How could they!

Oh, Pam, look at that sweet, sad face and those bunny ears:( He's the most adorable little guy. You can't help but cry to think he is now homeless. I can't imagine how former owners like these live with themselves, turning in a loyal companion after al those years. Let us know what they say, Mugsy!

Oh Mugsy bless you! Even if you don't decide to go forward with an adoption maybe it will give him a little more"time" until his new home can be found. I should really stay off that site. There are sooooo many good dogs there and many are strays, as Ripley was. It doesn't say that was the case with little Jake, so he must have been surrendered. Sandra, your signature ""Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog."
- Sydney Jeanne Seward is so true. How could his people do this???

Oh Rachel - would hubby allow another cocker? I don't dare approach mine. There have been a couple of poodles since Ripley came to live with us. :( I know it is a dangerous site for me to visit. Fortunately the shelter is about 45 min. away so I can't readily go there and bond with another pupster in the flesh. It is tempting enough on a website. I just say a prayer for the pupster in need and hope that the good Lord hears. Oh my I hope he is listening to my prayer for Jake. What a sweetheart!

Pam, this is just torture. First Tess and now Jake. If I thought there were any chance that I could have a #3, Jake certainly would be one to scoop up. He sounds so much like my Tucker personality wise. A little huney bunny for sure. It just makes me so sad. :(

My heart is broken into a thousand pieces :(

I just NEVER understand some people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having my senior rescue girl has been a blessing. She gives me just as much love as any other foster or rescue I've had. How someone can turn them away at the time the dogs need their humans most BAFFLES me    I wonder what these people would do if they got old and no one wanted to care for them!!

Please keep us updated :( I feel like driving up there myself and getting Jake and smothering him with love. If only we could save them all :( :(

Jake is such a sweetie!!! It makes me so sad that he is in the shelter. I am praying that he finds a new angel to watch over him--maybe it will be Mugsy;)
Fingers and paws crossed here, he sure sounds like a wonderful companion.

Great news, Molly!!! Hope the person really likes him and will give him a home for the rest of his time on earth. It is so greath that you are willing to come to the rescue when needed. An angel on earth.

Oh this is good news! Thank you for trying to help this little guy Mugsy. You know I visit Petfinder a lot (don't know why, because it makes me sad  ) and there are scores of sweet dogs there but for some reason this cutie just jumped out at me. Maybe now that they have a couple of people interested they will at least reconsider his "urgent" status. I don't even like to think about that. This little boy has so much to give and is just asking for the chance! Please do keep us posted and thank you so much! Maybe there are even lurkers out there who live in NJ and might be interested. If so, please do take a look at Jake.

People, sometimes they just make me so mad. A pet is for Life. not just while it is a cute little babe. That's just like my sweetie, I now think that the people that brought her to me were the owners. as I didn't get the 1st call from the lost and found ad i placed. So thats ok Sweetie is a keeper. even if she has alot of senior moments. She has gotten lost in the house several times. when she gets lost she starts the funny howling. when I get to her she is shaking like she is so scared. It just makes me mad to think they didnt want her anymore. But its their loss. and mostly My Gain. :) and now my little Pearlie Mae has a buddy that is not as hyper as Riley and Gannie.

Well all fingers are crossed tightly here since today is Saturday. I do think if the potential adopter came today they would have to fall for this cutie. I just went to check his picture again on the site, and it says "Pending." Yippy!! Now there now is a beautiful Chow listed too as Urgent. It says he even kisses kitties. Oh my, this is all so sad. I applaude those who work at shelters because I know they must leave there at night with a heavy heart. I leave these sites that way. :(

Here's another response from Lorraine. Unfortunately he didn't get adopted, but he's in foster. I'll let you know if I hear anything else.

The first person who wanted him wanted something smaller. The second person would leave him along 8 hours a day and Jake is not housebroken so it would not be a good idea.

We had him at our Doggie Easter Egg Hunt and his tail never stopped wagging. He loved being out and with people. He is in a foster home now but he still needs a home.

Thanks for caring.

If he is in Foster care does that mean he is no longer "urgent"? That's at least something....

I emailed her and asked, but haven't heard anything yet.

Pam

I would think he is somewhat "safe" in foster care, at least for the time being. When my daughter adopted her cat he was originally in the shelter and had been moved to foster care. He had been with his foster mom for about a month when she found him, and his foster mom wasn't letting him go anywhere except to a good home. :) Hopefully Jake's foster mom will feel the same way. Thank you Mugsy for your efforts. Maybe all of the flurry of interest in Jake (yours included) caused them to re-think his Urgent status. I sure hope so.

Pam how close are you to this little guy? I was thinking if you could pull him we could arrange a transport out here. I just don't want to see the little guy live out his life somewhere that doesn't want him.

Pam
04-15-2003, 06:54 AM
He's not far really. That is the shelter where I got my Ripley and it's about a 45 min. ride. I would wonder if some of our foster moms here at Pet Talk could shed some light of the fate of fostered dogs and cats. Do they just live out their lives with the foster parents until a forever home becomes available? Maybe Aly will see this thread and weigh in. By the way, I am surprised they said he is not housebroken, because in his little write-up at the site it said he was. Maybe his former humans were not being truthful. Gee, they really let him down all the way around. :(

Do you think you could contact them and see what they say?? I would really appreciate it.

I just spoke with Lorraine on the phone. She has a few new inquiries about Jake that she is following up on. She said he will not be returned to the shelter but fostered until he finds his forever home. :) She mentioned that she had been in touch with you and is agreeable to doing a transport if it should come down to that. In fact she told me that they recently had taken some dogs from Indiana and found them forever homes here in NJ. :) Jake apparently, being a senior guy, can't always "hold it" well and needs to be let out frequently, although he does fine in his crate. I guess we are in a holding pattern for a bit here. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for a happy positive ending to this story. :)

Thanks Pam! You are a sweetie! If he came to us he wouldn't be left alone for very long anyway since I work first and Mike works 3rd until the 28th and then goes back to 2nd.
