Well you didn't have my favorite breed listed so I voted for my 2nd favorite breed.

I would suggest that you get a book about the different dog breeds and see the ones you like if they will fit into your life style. Several of the breeds you listed are high energy and need a lot of run time. some are working breeds there for need jobs to do. some are high grooming, Just remember a bored dog can be distructive to a house hold.

I picked shiba because Byakko is my baby but they definately are a handful and you really need to research them before you get one.Obedience is not their strong suit. They take patience and endurance but are hillarious and lots of fun.If she was my first dog I probably would have been a bit overwhelmed..I agree you definately need to research and find a breed that fits your lifestyle with their energy level and grooming and size, health issues-bigger the dog bigger the vet bill general rule of thumb for cost for same problem, however certain breeds have more health problems so look into both,age-how much time you are home, etc.Good luck. The right dog is a wonderful companion and friend/family member..

I have a Shiba too, and like Laurie said, they are a handful--I would say that obedience is not their strong point (not Kito's at least). They are an amazing dog to have though, Kito is so loyal, but he is a little unpredictable around other dogs, especially small ones.
You should check into the SPCA or a rescue organization, or also check petfinder--there are so many great dogs out there who need a home!!!

I didn't vote because i don't think you should get the breed we tell you to get, or what our favorite is. If that was the case, I'd say Pit Bull but they're not for everybody. I suggest you going to your local shelter and checking out the dogs there. They have wonderful animals in shelters. If you don't find one you fall in love with right away [although it's hard not to] keep going back until you do find one. That way, you'll be finding a best friend, who appreciates you more because you saved their life. Go to www.petfinder.com there are some great animals listed there also.

What is your lifestyle like?
Like if you jog everyday and like to take a dog out alot, I would suggest a high-energy dog, like a dalmatian or a border collie.

Or if you had kids, a lab, a golden or a german shepherd.

Or if you want a guard dog, and german shepherd or doberman or rotti.

I know some of these weren't on your list, I'm just giving examples :) Maybe you could tell us what you are like?

I don't think it's wise to base your decision on what kind of dogs other people like.

My favorite is a siberian husky, which I don't think was even on your list.......but, it's really not a dog I would recommend to most people, especially first time dog owners.

Why don't you tell us a little about the personality/traits of a dog you are looking for, as well as your lifestyle, housing situation, hours you are home, amount of grooming you can handle, etc. Then maybe we can help! :D

I know what you mean. :) My friend has only owned one dog, and she wants a sibe when she's older. I tried to turn her attention towards other breeds, but she won't have it. Wants one "just like Nakita." I feel bad for that poor dog. She doesn't know anything abou training dogs, much less the more independant breeds or stubborn breeds.

Airedales are great dogs, yet expensive! Our Airedale Terrier was $700.00!

The one at the shelter who needs you most! Purebred or pure mutt, any dog can be right for the right person. Just be aware of what YOU want, and what each pup has to offer!

My favorite kind of dog is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. I have one. Here is a link to pictures of him. http://community.webshots.com/user/tollerlovr

My favourite breed is a Sheltie.

Personally, I love Great Danes (which weren't listed)! Dakota has me hooked. I also am attached to dalmations and labs (my other special girls). However, I don't know your situation so I can't tell you what I would get if I were you. If you have kids, I like labs and goldens because they are so family oriented. Other dogs work too, it's just my experience that I'd choose one of those. So, it depends on what you're looking for. So I'd suggest doing research on the breeds after you decide what you want in the dog!

Hi! We have a male daschund. He is 2 years old and is a regular part of our family. We have three children and "Sholtz" loves them so much! I have several friends who have females of this breed, and they seem really nippy and are apt to bite. Our dog has never been that way. He doesn't bark alot, which is a good thing for us. We do crate him at night, and that is his domain where he likes to retreat to when he is tired. I HIGHLY recommend this breed. We have had many dogs, and this is our favorite by far. Good luck!

I don't think you should listen to what others tell you is the breed to get...

that being said...of course you should get a Doberman Pinscher!

I love all of the breeds that were listed... all of them are great!:D
I had to choose PittBull because they are sooo cute and I LOVE them, even if they have bad "rumors" that I don't reallky like. I don't believe them though.:)
