I stopped by my favorite local pet store today. I love going in there. They specialize in birds and fish. Their birds are all happy, healthy, tame, and clean. They have all sorts of fun toys to play with and great things to eat (rice, veggies, fruits, seeds, etc). I am just so impressed with the place. Their fish are all healthy too and in very clean, large tanks.

Anyway, they have an African Grey there who belongs to the owner of the store. There are signs on his cage that says he BITES HARD! There's also a sign that explains that he was rescued in Argentina as a baby and was never tamed. It said that he is happy and to please not suggest to the owner to try to tame him because the owner believes it will ruin his spirit.

Hmmm, I found this pretty odd. I don't understand why they don't try to tame him. If it doesn't work, at least they would have tried. I don't get the part of ruining his spirit. Wouldn't he be happier if he could be handled and have human company and get out of his cage??

oh yes! all birds would be happier tamed. for instance, if you were afraid of tornados... wouldnt you be happier if you got over your fear? I sure would. And if the bird is in his cage all the time, witch im not sure of, that is not healthy for him. poor baby. thats to bad they arent selling him. he could probibly find a good home. if he is not tame he is probibly not happy, either. thats to bad... it sounds like a great place, too. :( It will not ruin his spirit to tame him. It will only make his spirit better! do you know if he is actully mean, or if its just that he bites?

I'm not sure. He did look pretty happy playing in his water (he even splashed me!) but I know he'd be SO MUCH happier if he could be handled.

I was just assuming that he's not let out of his cage. She might let him out but I don't know. It doesn't seem like it. Its sad because his cage is not even a huge one.

The more I think about that "ruining his spirit" comment, the angrier I'm getting
