I just got back from the vet's office. Mandy is running a fever and she has a limp in her left leg. They did some blood work and the dr. said she has a slight infection and he gave her penicillin (Spell?). She has to take this twice a day for 10 days. I can't remember what her temp. was but you can actually feel how hot she is. She is spending a lot of time sleeping and the dr. said for me to make sure she is getting water. We got an appointment made for tomorrow at 5:45 to get her temp. checked again. I will have to do this until her temp. is back to normal. It is really hard to see her sick. She is not playing at all. She likes to get up on my chest so she is spending a lot of time with me right now. I think I feel almost as bad as she does right now. I look really bad! I'm so worried.

Prayers going out for you Mandy. My Mystery is also on anti-biotics for the next ten days. I am worried too...I am praying that both our fur-babies pull through A-ok.

I'm so sorry to hear little Mandy is ill! :( I hope the antibiotics will help and she'll get better very soon. I'm sure she'll feel more comfortable laying with you. Try and see if you can get her to drink some water now and again, so she doesn't get dehydrated!

All fingers and paws crossed for her! :)

Poor little Mandy. Does she have an abscess from a scratch or something? Well, I hope she gets feeling better soon! It will probably take about 3 days for the antibiotic to start working in her .... I would suggest giving her some Nutri-Cal dietary supplement (sold in tube at Pet Smart or vets) to increase her appetite and thirst and energy level so that she doesn't dehydrate! Keep us posted!

She is drinking her water and eating her food fine. She is even managing to get to the litter box on her own. I set up the small litter box again in the spare bedroom. The vet told me to put her in a different room than Hayley because she seems to have a sore leg and Hayley may want to play. She had a nice long drink when we got back from the vet office. I can imagine her little throat was a bit sore after all that meowing in the car. I will keep you posted on her condition. Hopefully when we go to the vets office tomorrow night her fever will be gone down.

Poor little Mandy and poor you for all the worry!!

Sending many positive healing vibes your way. Did the doctor say how she would get an infection that would affect her leg??

Since Mandy meowed all the way to the vet's office, she definitely is letting you know that she wasn't feeling "that badly"...

I am sure that you will start to notice an improvement in her within the next 48 hours.

Our finger and paws are cross for you...

The vet said the infection could be due to a scratch she got due to some rough playing. Not that Hayley would intentionally hurt her its just that Mandy is so tiny and sometimes Hayley insists she needs to be washed. Hayley is feeling a little sad that she can't play with Mandy right now. Mandy is now 2 pounds! She is growing! I sure hope she gets better real soon.

Thank you everyone for your positive thoughts. Hopefully when we go to the Vet's office tommorrow night we will have some good news to post. I think I will let Hayley in Mandy's room for a little while tonight. I can tell she really misses her little sister.

I'm glad that Mandy was able to eat and drink a bit.
I had to isolate Mystery too...vet is worried our little 6 week old Asia could get sick.
Mystery just ate and drank for me...I was so happy. He sat up for a bit too. Mystery never made a peep in the truck on the way to the vet...he was just too tired and weak.

Mandy seems to be a little better this morning. She played for a little and had a nice long drink and ate. She has not had a bowel movement since yeasterday morning. I am waiting for the vet office to open and see what their opinion is on this. She is walking a little better today as well so hopefully that means her leg is getting better. I think she still has a little bit of a fever but she don't feel as warm as yeasterday. I guess we will find out this evening. I'm still worried about her. I hate to see her sick. Hayley, my husband and I are praying for a speedy recovery. I'm really glad you guys are as well. Thank you so much.

I'm glad to hear that Mandy had a better morning too.
Mystery was given an enema at the vets office yesterday. He had gotten too dehydrated to pass his stool.

They also had me buy some of the flavorless benefiber/metamucel and mix it with some canned food. I have been adding a bit of water to the canned food too. That way he gets more fluids into his system.

Did they give Mandy and injections of fluids yesterday? Mystery had to have 2 subcutaneous injections due to being so dehydrated.

Continued prayers for Mandy.

HayleyRosie

Mandy did not require an injections of fluids. She was not dehydrated. The vet told me to make sure she was getting plenty of water and if she was not drinking from her bowl I was to give her water through a syringe. To prevent her from becoming dehydrated. She had a nice long drink this morning and I am leaving work in a little while to go home and check on her. She don't like taking her meds but we are able to get them down.

03-25-2003, 09:08 AM
Mystery wasn't too thrilled about his meds either...but he let me give them to him.

Last night I held Mystery's head in one hand and poured a little bit of water at a time from a spoon into the side of his mouth. Thought about a syringe after! I was going to use a syringe today if need be...but I don't think I will have to go that route now.

I'm so sorry to hear about poor little Mandy. Hopefully she continues to improve and she's all better soon. It's so sweet that Hayley misses her little sister....awww...:)

And for both you and Anakins Mom - it's a good sign when they start fighting the pill giving. That means they are feeling much better and are able to put up a fuss, whereas when they aren't feeling well, they're much more likely to be complacent and just let you do whatever you want with them, including shoving pills down their throats. :)

Here's hoping they both continue to improve. :)

Just got back to work after spending some time with my little sick angel. She is doing a lot better. I feel a lot better now as well. My boss let me take a longer lunch so I could go home and check on her. Hayley was very excited to see me coming home at lunch time. She was purring mad! I can't wait to see the two of them playing with each other again. I guess I will see what the vet says about that at 5:45 today when Mandy gets her temp. checked again.

Hi everyone,

I had Mandy to the vet again last night. Her temperature is still up but gone down from what it was. On monday morning it was 105.3 F (40.7 C) and last night it was 103.8 F (39.9 C). The vet would like to see it go down to about 39.5 by today. She has to go to see the vet again at 4:15 this afternoon. She appears to be a little better again this morning. When she came into my room while I was getting ready for work I held her and could feel her paw pads were a bit cold. A good sign that her fever is going down. The vet also said that she looked a lot better last night. Her nose is bright pink again and her paw pads are bright pick again as well. He said that the cat nose and pads get pale just like we do when we are sick. I didn't know that! Her leg is getting better as well. She is not holding it up any more but she is still limping a little. She is running again now. Hayley and Mandy had a real play fest this morning and both were up in the window when my husband and I left for work. I love that!

The vet receptionist is starting to get to know me really well! After friday I will have been at the vet's office every day this week!

Great news! :D

Mystery is doing better this morning too. He actually ran to meet me when I opened the door to bring him his morning meds and food. I just let him up to roam around the house.

Prayers of thanksgiving that Mandy and Mystery are doing better and continued prayers for their full recovery.

Mandy had a visit at the vets agian last night. Her temperature was down to 39.3 C (102.7 F). It still has to go down a little bit. She is going to the vet again tonight at 7:00 to get it checked again. She seems to be back to herself again. If only her temperature would read normal. The vet also said last night it may go up a little when she comes to the office because of stress. Now she knows exactly where she is going when I bring out her carrier.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers. Having the ability to talk on PT makes the experience a little easier. Thanks again.

I'm so happy Mandy is feeling better. Hopefully her temp will be down a little tonight. The more she goes to the vet, the sooner she'll get used to it....yeah right! ;) :)

Good luck and let us know how she does.

Oh, and we haven't seen any pictures of the little cutey lately. She must be much bigger than last time we saw her. (hint, hint). ;) :)

I will try and post some new pictures of her. I don't have a digital camera so it takes me a lot longer to get pictures to post. I have a roll of film started so it will not be much longer. Maybe a digital camera is in my future.

Mandy's temperature was 39.1 C (102.4 F) last night. The vet said that was about normal. She has to go in again today to see Dr. Martin and make sure it is staying down. The poor little angel really don't like the carrier at all now. Hopefully today will be her last day for a while. She has become a pro at taking her meds though!

Glad to hear that Mandy's temp is staying down. Mystery's has been staying down well also. He is nearly spit his pill out at me this morning, but I caught it and got it down him. I did manage to finally get the bandage off of his leg today too. Long-haired cats and bandages don't mix well!
