Hi! I want to know if any of your dogs have ever been in a Dog Show. I want to show Sadie, but she doesn't have papers! But, she's a pruebred Black labby. Thanks!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Daisy has papers (purebred Basset Hound) and actually, when I read a book on Bassets, she has the some of most favored characteristics... however, she does NOT have the obedience to be in a dog show! Who, Daisy? Walk around like a good girl in an arena full of new dogs and people to sniff? I think not. I'd like to show her but I won't even try to embarrass myself http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif She's always first place to me anyway! But that's a good question, LabLover. I am also interested. Who has a show doggie? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Usually the term "dog show" is used for the beauty contests in the dog world. Dogs shown in dog shows usually don't have to be very obedient, they are judged on their looks.

Obedience trials are just what the name implies, tests to see how obedient your dog will be that day. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Carl is neutered so he can not compete in dog shows. At first I didn't think he couldn't do obedience either, because he doesn't have papers.

But the AKC issues this thing called an ILP (Indefinite Listing Privilege). You have to get some good pictures of your dog and fill out a form with information about your dog and send it to the AKC. If they think your dog looks anything like a purebred, they'll give you an ILP #.

You can compete in everything that dogs with "papers" can, except for conformation, where the dogs are judged on their looks. The only thing is the dog has to be spayed to get an ILP.

Anyways, I have shown Carl in obedience trials. We've gone through the first level, which is called Novice, and gotten our CD (Companion Dog) title. The next level is called Open. We've gotten our first out of 3 "legs" needed to get the CDX (Companion Dog Excellent) title.

If you're interested, I can find the page on the AKC website about ILPs. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif You should look into showing Sadie. I'm sure with some work she'd be great! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Perry and Daisy would be a joke in a Dog Show. Perry would want to fight all the dogs and Daisy would run away. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I do not have a dog that was in a dog show, but my grandparent's have a dog who's grandfather was a $5,000 Australian cattledog show dog from Australia. But unfortunately, his genetics didn't pass on to Buck. He does have quite a few qualities and would be able to probably get a few points, but its just not for him. He has never been around that many dogs and people and he would totally freak out. He loves it where he is. And to Rottie even though Carl is neutered you could still show him, I saw a couple on TV who had a male Lakeland that was a champion dog and they had him neutered for medical reasons. All they did was get the artificial package. And they kept showing him and I think its allowed in the show ring.
