did any of your females have one of these put on after they were spayed? I know not all vets use these but just wanted to see how did yours adjust to it? how long did she have to wear it afterwards?

The e-collar should be worn until the stitches are removed. You can take it off of her when you are around her and watching her but if she starts to lick at the sutures, then put the collar back on. Tama had to wear one when he had a hot spot on his stomach. He got kinda used to it, he just walked with his head lower to the ground.

When Emily was spayed I didn't need to use one on her. The vet told me to keep an eye on the stitches and if they appeared red or inflamed to bring her back in and they would give her a collar. It turns out that I didn't need one for her at all...

I have had at least 8 cats spayed or neutered in the last two years and none of them had collars. They all were fine.
Must be a vet thing.....some do, some don't.

None of ours ever had the collars. Vet said if they bothered the sutures a lot then maybe use one.

same here. Jan didn't have one. She was too groggy at first to care, and then she didn't bother her stitches. Just depends on both the vet and the cat.
One thing that this vet did that I hadn't heard of before was to offer, for an additional fee, to give her some extra painkillers before sending her home with us. We did that.

We did the extra pain killer on 2 of ours. We decided not to do that again because they weren't feeling any pain so attempted jumping and other strenuous things the others didn't try. We figured it was better to not have them feel quite this good so they wouldn't have more of a chance pulling on the sutures etc.

None of mine had the e-collar, but all the girls had what I call the rolling pin sweater. It was taped in three places..one up right under the arm pits, one right in front of the back legs, and one lightly in the middle. I think two of my girls licked the sweater off nearly, but, that kept them from their stitches....
None of our cats had the e-collar! I don't think this is really necessary, and it even hurts..!
About the stiches: they did NOT have to be removed. The visual row of stitches is made with "self-dissolving"-tread (is spelling right here:confused:  ). This is super: no more vet visit to pull those out!!

When I had Ally fixed the vet said 95% of cats don't pull at their stitches - of course Ally happened to be one of the other 5%!
She came home the same evening of her op - scooted up onto a very high cupboard and SULKED! By the following morning (when I had found a ladder and got her down) she had removed one stitch already. The vet here was in surgery, so I phoned my vet in South Africa who gave me the following tip:
Take an ear bud and some Vicks (you know - the vapor rub) - rub the vicks AROUND the stitches - NOT on them. This is APPARENTLY supposed to keep them from licking as they don't like the smell/taste.
Ally seemed to stop for the first day or two, but my the third day she only had one stitch left, and had grown quite used to the taste of the Vicks!
Luckily by then the wound had healed enough to stay closed, so all ended well.
BTW one of my dogs in South Africa had to wear a "bucket" after an argument with a car (the car won). He refused to eat with it on, so he ended up lying on his back in the lounge, watching cartoons upside-down, whilst being fed dog-food with a plastic spoon! lol - not a sight easily forgotten - unfortunately this happened before I bought my digital camera!

LOL... What a funny sight that would have been! Shame you don't have a picture.

Hayley pulled on her stitches as well. We have an e-collar put on her now. I hope she don't pull any stitches out.
